    New Logo - Your Thoughts?!

Ok, here's my idea for a more "metal" version of the logo. I kept it fairly clean, though I could see it with more spikes or weathering, too. I have a plain version and one with a metal texture. Once the letter forms are in place, it's easy to apply any kind of texture, lighting, or outline to the logo. What do you think? Worth working on?

    What's on your mind?

Went to an award ceremony honoring all the students in our school district who scored distinguished on state testing in @ least one of three subjects Math, Reading & Science. My son James, he's in 4th grade, received the highest honor for getting distinguished in all three. Was a very proud moment.

Whether you love or hate Cannibal Corpse, their penchant for churning out accessible, fun and consistent DM can't be denied. Yes when they suck they really do suck (Gallery of Suicide), but even if technically never more complicated than most Kinder egg toys there's always a familiarity to CC albums that appeals. I get those that hate that familiarity. If you prefer to become lost in a Portalesque vortex when enjoying your extreme metal then the obvious churn of CC won't be for you. However, for every complex and archaic DM record in my collection I like to have a fair amount of surety too (someone will be along in a minute to replace "surety" with "safety" no doubt) and "Red Before Black" is as familiar to me after a few listens as most of the band's previous outpyt. "Red Before Black" reinvents no wheels, either in terms of DM in general or the CC specific brand. It is naive to say it has no variety as this simply isn't true, the pace of "Remaimed" for example goes from a slight itch to a raging STD style of a rash. Opening track "Only One Will Die" comes for you like a deranged serial killer, devoid of any bizarre macabre master plan to use your body in some horrific piece of death art, just driven instead by the need to rip your head off and shit down your neck. "Firestorm Vengeance" starts like a thrash track, chopping away at the bars like a lumberjack on LSD defacing a tree. The mastery of "Scavenger Consuming Death" is undeniable as it chugs away sitting imperiously glaring at you like some cocksure domestic pet who just shat in your sock drawer! Sonically, the album seems a little more developed than usual without ever dissolving into the territory of "guitar wankery". My only instrumentation grumble is the slightly soft edge to the drum sound which taps along instead pummelling in unison with the rest of the activity on display here. Whilst still being relevant (and it has achieved this without becoming "core" orientated either) and it staying in my head a lot better than the last two Suffocation records (for example) it sets nothing alight. As solid a DM record as this is my face isn't torn off at any point, my ears aren't battered and my neck doesn't get sore due to some over-exuberant headbanging session. Most tracks do dip away unfortunately. Let's take nothing away from the effort though. To not be producing shit metal at this stage in your career is an achievement in itself, I just start to question if motions are starting to just be gone through?

    What's on your mind?

Wow, had a great couple of days with my GF, and we've decided to get engaged soon. We know right now we shouldn't get engaged yet because we've haven't been together long enough, so we aren't officially engaged yet. But, we're pretty sure, and we've bought the rings. This is just completely amazing and unreal feeling. I feel like I've found who I've been looking for my whole life. I've never felt like this. For so many years I was just so full of anger and hatred and bitterness, and I hated myself and thought I was worthless. It's actually confusing to try to process these emotions I'm just so not used to. When I left her place this morning, sitting in my car while it was warming up, I burst into tears, just so overwhelmed by emotion. It's just so hard to believe that someone loves me and I'm worth something. I can't wait to put that ring an her finger.

Not metal related, but the local weekly paper in the city where we're having a group painting show chose one of my pieces to print alongside the article. It hit me that for all the times I've seen my obscure little album and t-shirt illustrations floating around the internet, this is the first time I can recall seeing one of my personal paintings in print. I'm a little bit more excited than I should be, maybe.

So I may or may not be performing at an exhibition run by the place I do my guitar lessons. I guess you'd call it a showcase. Myself and some other students will be there. Should be fun though I don't know what I'll play. Maybe 'Crown Of Sympathy' by My Dying Bride.

Motorcycle fest 2 months ago. This was the first day, at the very beginning, thus so few people were present. Once the mosh pits started forming I basically haven't left any of them. That's why for the following three days I had muscle-ache (?) in my arms and legs. Great bands, great time. PS: I'm the guy in the camo shirt btw.

A metal hearted man... Mr. Wolf Hoffman, ACCEPT lead guitarist and musical mastermind. SK: "Hi Wolf, I wanna thank you for all the incredible riffs, solos and melodies that you've created. Your music has been a part of my life for 15 years and I'm deeply grateful". WH: "Thank you, I appreciate". SK: "You're from Solingen (German city), right?" WH: "Yes indeed". SK: "Now let me tell you this. Solingen is very famous for its blades, but the sharpest thing that ever came out of Solingen is YOUR MUSIC. Sharp as steel!". WH: "Ahah thank you, but that is not true. NOTHING IS SHARPER THAN THE BLADES OF SOLINGEN". He's a great guy! Very polite and humble. He smiled all the time and took time to sign and take pics with every metalhead around. He asked me what my name was and shook my hands twice. Being the cheesy defender of the faith I have always been and always will be, I was starstruck and in awe of him. I mean, he is the man that threw Beethoven's "FUR ELISE" in the middle of the "Metal Heart" solo. THE STUFF OF LEGEND.

I finally got started on a piece for a playing-card-themed art show a friend is putting together this fall. I'm not used to working this small, and I have to say it was a lot of fun, I was able to get a lot done in a fairly short amount of time. The top half wound up accidentally bearing a strong resemblance to my brother, so I made the bottom half a self portrait.

Arrived home yesterday from a busy week to an email from my Director saying he had asked the board to authorise a further pay rise to me (the second in 6 months). I have that awkward British thing around receiving praise and rewards that makes me unsure of how to react or what to say. P.S I think this means I am promoted to Advanced Practitioner of Virgin Slaying

    What Are You Listening To?

Happy I busted out the Satyricon CDs, inspired by Macabre's recent exploration. The Shadowthrone is still my favorite, but I hadn't really listened to DMT or ND in at least a couple years. Their riffy approach and almost Viking-metal melodic sensibility still mark out their early albums as some of my favorite stuff from the scene. I'm celebrating my ten-thousandth post here by drinking a couple of beers and listening to My Dying Bride - As The Flower Withers. This place has been important to me over the past couple of years. It's been a pleasure getting to know you guys and gals, and I've not only discovered new music, but gotten back into some old favorites because of our conversations. Cheers to all my friends here.

    RULES! **READ BEFORE POSTING**

Members of Metal Forum, WELCOME TO THE FORUM! We all know rules are boring, but ask yourselves, what's a tyrannical dictatorship without rules? Chaos. And that simply won't do, because we mods rule with an iron fist! Please speak English in these forums. Breaking the rules will result in a caution and thread-lock. Repeat offenses will be met with a permanent ban. You have been warned. Strict guidelines:- DO NOT post racist, sexist or homophobic remarks. DO NOT bully other users or make physical threats. DO NOT post links to or discuss illegal downloads. DO NOT disseminate other users' personal information. DO NOT post pornographic material (or anything that could be seen as such). DO NOT post spam. DO NOT advertise services or products for sale (unless given permission). General tips:- Be civil and polite to other users, even when you really disagree with them! Mutual respect is important. Do not create huge signatures with lines of images. It means more scrolling, and that's not fair on our poor mouse wheels and trackpads. If your sig is any bigger than the one on this post, it's too big. If your sig disappears, it was deleted for being too big. If you repost it, you'll annoy other users and the mods. This will result in an eSlap. If a thread is clearly going to be locked, don't spam it with remarks like "This thread is going to be locked". You're just bumping a crappy thread. If you're not sure where something should go, post it in General Chat. You aren't a moderator, and acting like one isn't cool. You can swear all you like, but targeting abuse at an individual will be treated as bullying. Try to keep Rick-rolling to a minimum. Make your thread titles relevant to the content. Search the forums before posting news articles to cut down on copypasta. If you want a thread to be stickied, include "Sticky please" in the title. If it doesn't get stickied, it isn't worthy. Deal with it. If you feel your thread is NSFW, warn people in the title. Think before you do anything illegal. We will work with the authorities for great justice. Generally being excessively crude, irritating or attempting to troll for lulz may get you banned at the discretion of the moderators. Respect their decisions, they are only enforcing the rules. You can appeal a ban, but we will be checking logs to assess your offence, so don't try to lie about it. If you have any issues or suggestions, there is a place for them here. If you have any questions about the forums, post them in this thread but please, read the FAQs first! -Metal Forum Team

Firstly, happy International Woman's Day to all metal ladies on this forum And secondly...I've finally been to the Sabaton + Accept concert I was waiting 7 and a half months to! It was an amazing day (despite being a rainy Monday). Firstly, my friend forgot his concert ticket (!!!), but luckily my dad was free so he went to his house, got the ticket and brought it to the city where the concert was (distance: ~40km)...(we travelled by train and my dad drove there by car). Because of this delay we missed the opening act, Twilight Force, which only played for half an hour. Accept came next and they rocked the whole arena! The feeling of seeing these legends live, in flesh and blood, I could describe, but it would take a lot of text on this post Anyway, they played classics like Restless and Wild, Metal Heart and Balls to the Wall, as well as some of the newer stuff and the atmosphere was amazing! (got into a few moshpits during their performance) Then, when Sabaton started to play the whole arena just exploded! When the first song, Ghost Division, started I spent most of the time just trying not to trip or fall because the crowd was moving in every direction...like boiling water basically. Almost every song was greeted equally by the audience, with a lot of noise, but at specially the song Last Dying Breath which was dedicated to the defenders of Belgrade in WWI. Although this song means a lot to us, still I think that the best one was the acoustic version of The Final Solution. The acoustic version is a f##king tearjerker..much better than the original, IMO. When the concert ended, my friend and I walked 4.2km to Kalemegdan - a park and a medieval fortress. Despite visiting it a lot of times, in all weather conditions, I've never been there at night. It looks absolutely wonderful!...and eerie in some places I was so glad we made that visit because parks closer to the river bank look amazing when looked upon from the fortress. All those lights shining, making a perfect contrast, like fireflies in the night. (and here's a little picture I thought you'd appreciate..I call it "A Path to Darkness") After this visit, we walked 4.2km back to the train station to catch the morning train. (note: we aren't familiar with bus lines in this town so we decided to walk, and there was a closer train station but the first train departed in 7am, while the one we caught was at 4). Overall it was a great experience. A lot of memories to look back to one day. And I really hope this isn't the last time I see Accept live.
