  5. And then you get married and have kids and you still don't have any cash for music! Sadly my Motörhead collection is a measly 10 - mainly the period 1979-91, with only 1 of their more modern albums (Inferno). I have 30 Iron Maiden CDs/vinyls. If I really had it my way I would have far more - there's still all the reissued singles on vinyl I need to get and a couple of boxsets.

    What's on your mind?

That's $9 US per gallon. You would see riots in the streets and public buildings burning in the States if it gets to that point here. I do think there is a tipping point with fuel prices where the economy will suffer immensely. To Kuke's point earlier, we do manage to adjust to higher prices to a degree, but there is a point where it is no longer profitable to get out of bed in the morning. Supplies can't be delivered or are not affordable, supply chains become more strained than they are now, business at the end of the supply chains can no longer afford to operate or can't get staff to come to work (because it's not affordable). Shit could get sideways quick. I know there have been these sort of doomsday predictions for years, but this time it feels different. We've been playing chicken for so long as a society that we've lost fear of real and present danger. And no one in any position to avoid the looming catastrophe seems interested in doing anything other than enriching themselves and their friends or using the situation for political gain.

  12. That's a hard question for me to answer. The vast majority of collection are CDs with a smattering of Bandcamp purchases. I have most everything ripped and I use Sonos as a server. It doesn't give an album count, but dumping most of my metal genres onto one of my speaker/rooms queues, I come up with 7,481 songs. So, divided by 12 as an average , I come up with 623 albums. I'll throw in another 20-50 albums or so unaccounted for. The Bandcamp purchases don't get tagged with a genre. I've got 188 BC purchases. I've got 6087 rock songs some of which are misclassified as metal so that's a little over 500. If I look at things more conservatively and divide that entire track count 15, I get 917 albums which doesn't account for genre classifications such as punk, hardcore, indie, alternative, electronic, etc. and I'm not even bothering with classical and jazz.

  13. What the hell is Headcat?!?!?! My problem is other than Iron Maiden, I tend to get rid of albums I don't like. Eg I've sold more In Flames and Arch Enemy albums than I currently own. Got rid of a quarter of my Dark Tranquility collection etc etc. Oh and got rid of most modern Metallica, Cradle of Filth and Blind Guardian whilst keeping older albums. My top 6: Iron Maiden - 30 (all studio albums, tons of other stuff) Megadeth - 16 (all studio albums other than Risk which I got rid of, 1 live album, 1 comp - Hidden Treasures) Slayer - 11 - missing or got rid of some their albums I don't like (World Painted Blood, GHUA, RepentlesS) Iced Earth - 11 - much like Slayer, missing or got rid of stuff I didn't like Anthrax - 10 - again got rid of stuff I didn't like ala We've Come For You All Motörhead - also 10. Only got into these guys much later in life. Growth area! Plenty of other bands at up to 8-9: Carcass, Edge of Sanity, Bathory, Black Sabbath, Kreator, Testament etc

  15. I've got all the Motorhead albums, mostly on CD but some on vinyl. I've also got 3 of the 5 Headcat CD's, the Hawkwind albums Lemmy appeared on and the Robert Calvert CD Captain Lockheed And The Starfighters which Lemmy appeared on. I don't own all the JP albums, but I do own all the Maiden albums and a number of box sets. I'm pretty sure Motorhead is the largest collection I have by one band

  23. In theory, Kuke is right. Price increases are usually accompanied by proportional increases in people's paychecks. Price goes up, charge gets passed to consumer, people demand more money for work, companies increase pay because they need workers to stay in business. The problem is that those adjustments don't happen immediately. It's in that window of time businesses make big money, and the average person gets fucked over. Oil prices will most likely even out and readjust as people find alternative, but how long that takes is anyone's guess, and in the meantime we're all screwed

    What's on your mind?

What's on my mind right now is that I'm heartbroken for Ukraine 💔, and also scared of where the war might progress to next. My country borders to Russia (just slightly), there's never been a war between us before, but there are signs to indicate that this might change sometime in the future 😟

  28. Weedpecker - IV Forgot I had bought this a month or two ago. Up to the standard of their others. I think it's called stoner rock (from Poland). It ain't doom. NP: Green Lung - Black Harvest It took a little while to really click, but jeez this is good shit. Love the Queen-ish guitar harmonies. One of those vocalists that is a bit nasally (almost Ghost at times) and might irritate some but once you get on the vibe it's fine. Really pissed I missed them playing a few weeks ago now, on account of it being sold out. Speaking of Ghost, I haven't really liked the new tracks released so far. Some were actually pretty heavy but didn't do much for me. I think I am gonna get off the Ghost train.

    What's on your mind?

It's not misleading, by the sounds of it you're assuming my comment was aimed at the life struggle of the two groups which was not my intention. People not willing to learn, or never been given the opportunity to learn about money lead to more bankruptcy, debt and loan foreclosures than those on lower incomes. People who need to account for every dollar, watch everything they spend so as to assure they still have a dollar to spend next week, in general, make less money mistakes than those who don't have to account for every dollar spent. The obsession with class is bullshit. The social class my parents grew up in had little to no bearing on the social class I am. I am what I am because I made the efforts I did at a younger age, if I moved a class I wouldn't know because I don't care enough to judge myself, or others, by class. The same goes for my kids, they create their own social class, if they want to name it or fit into some category that names them middle, low, or even high, I'll help them where I can but ultimately it's up to them, not me. The same thing goes for any other person. If it helps people to aim for these classes, then that's their choice but honestly the less focus for me meant more drive. I'm sure I could offer up my earnings, my estate and my goods and chattels for someone to put me in a class but I'm just not interested in such classifications. I guess my whole view comes from the fact that I have never cared what others earned, what they owned, what they owed. If I wanted a pay rise, when I wasn't working for myself, I hit the boss with reasons why I deserved it, if I didn't get it I reassessed whether I needed to work hard/better, or find another job. I never looked at someone else I worked along side and wondered if they made more money, or had a wage increase I didn't. If that's class moving then again I say it's down to the person, not some definition.

  30. Hence social mobility in Australia being lower than ever before, how does one move up a social class when the cost of living paired with that Spierling debt conspire to ensure the average Australians focus remains squarely on keeping a roof over their head, and food on the table, for another week? This is, of course, a problem which could easily be circumvented by the introduction of universal basic income but a bill such as that would never pass because it necessitates the closing of corporate tax loopholes and increasing taxes on the wealthy.

    What Are You Listening To?

Harakiri for the Sky/III: Trauma had it's moments-I mean, it was actually pretty good, but that seems to have been their apex.

  33. HARAKIRI FOR THE SKY - Maere. Meh. I should have known better. EIGHT BELLS - Legacy of Ruin. Also meh. Neither of these engaged me. What engages Thatguy? Emotion - passionate expression of whatever - it can be love, rage, even fucking devotion to satan but they have to make me feel it - or musical/intellectual interest - including but not limited to dissonance and weird stuff. These albums had neither of the above. Bt way of contrast, AUSTRALIAN ART ORCHESTRA/YOUNG WÄGILAK GROUP - Crossing Roper Bar Volume 1. Jazz, rock, contemporary classical with indigenous singing. This one brings home the bacon.

    Slayer

Totally expected someone to jump in and say 'it's not fashion it's because....' and while I fully expect people to be able to make excuses, and might even agree with some, I still stand by my thoughts. Hating Slayer has been the fashionable thing to do nearly as long as hating Metallica for selling out.

You've had autographs so I'm sure he was pleased to see you there having fantastic time well that's assuming he can see much. Fans having great time is what it's about. Getting that stuff signed. Great night, I was at the front the whole time there were about 200 people there but I was right up front next to the speaker 😂😂 he made eye contact with me at several times and when singing virus he pointed at me while singing it was so epic, and he sang the song I really wanted him to sing being The Man Who Would Not Die!! Brilliant night and I got my Iron Maiden X Factor and Blaze - TMWWND CD’s signed plus I got to meet him again! Brilliant night it was, but then a couple days after I got a cough and cold and found out i’m covid positive 😂 so been off work for a week mostly in bed lol, oh yeah and after the concert my hearing took nearly 2 days to recover!! 😂

  48. Bathory just as influential? Arguably, but not quite imho. Foundational and more directly responsible for the 2nd wave template? Undeniably. The better band? To suggest otherwise would be laughable. But coming a few years after Venom, where do you honestly think Mr. Forsberg got the idea for Bathory from? He got it from Venom. Even named his band after one of Venom's "hits" from the 1982 album entitled Black Metal. When Venom hit the scene in 1980 there had never been any music that sounded even remotely like that before. In a world where it's accepted that musical artists borrow from and are inspired by one another and jump on bandwagons Venom, love 'em or hate 'em, were truly original. And as I've already said I can't stand Venom, I think they fucking suck. I don't have any of their records and I'd be perfectly happy if I never had to listen to them ever again. I might check something of theirs out on the Tube once every decade or so just to refresh my memory on how awful they truly were. But at this point 40 years down the road I could forgo that. Meanwhile I love and respect Bathory, absolutely consider Quothorn to be one of the all time greats. I have several Bathory records and they still get played. I would also put Celtic Frost in that group of eminently influential 80's artists who were largely responsible for the advancement of black metal as well (without actually being black metal themselves.) But I've got to give credit where credit is due. Venom came first. Not by a few months but by a few years. Formed in 1979, Venom's first demo was April 1980, the same month as Iron Maiden's debut album. Hellhammer formed in 1982, first demo out in 1983. Bathory formed in 1983, first compilation appearance was 2 tracks on "Scandinavian Metal Attack" in 1984. Even as shit as Venom are, and no matter how much we might wish it wasn't so, there would be no CF or Bathory as we know them today without the trail blazed by Venom. Cronos might be little more than a meme to be laughed at these days and afaic it's always been hard to take them seriously, but that doesn't change the fact that Venom were game changers. To dismiss the boys from Newcastle now all these many decades later and try to claim that others who were directly influenced by them were actually the true originators just because we don't like them would be the act of revisionist history.

  49. It's not my favorite, though I have a soft spot for System of a Down on rare occasions. I think the hate probably stems from the genre's adoption of a more commercial/rock/rap sound. The people who hate it the most are probably those who are also very concerned about remaining in the "underground."

  50. I personally love some Nu-Metal artists (Disturbed and Evanescence ) but from my understanding from what people have said and my experience with alternative rock, is that some people just don't like the fact that it's labeled metal when it is only a tiny bit more metal then other rock genres. It's also annoying when people go around acting as if they know so much about metal when they only listen to alternative, which is a sub-genre that does not give justice to the whole metal genre.
