Opinions on Smoking (and my View)

Recommended Posts

I am a dirty smoker, I do not smoke around people as I am alone alot of the time, but even socially not many people I know still smoke due to the high cost here, However I do not wish to give up, I may do someday when I get tired of it (as many friends have) or when the cost is too great (my govt are talking $100 per pack) There are many options here to help you give up, But That is not for me, I could not feign trying as I like to live my life as I please - as long as it does not immediately effect the people around me.

:D mmmmkay :) Here the prohibition to smoke in bars&restaurants came a year ago I think, it was disgusting before as people would smoke right above your food. The plan of the new government is to cancel the prohibition. Normally I hear that they support the prohibition in restaurants, but not in bars, clubs etc. But if I'm in a bar, people smoke in it and ventilation is bad usually there's a point where I start crying and cannot stop because of the smoke. I feel a bit as if I'm roasting peppers on the balcony (an autumn activity which I spend with tears leaking constantly from my eyes ).

I've only been smoking for that past 6 years and I'm starting to cough up blood. I've had to grandmas. a grandpa and a uncle who died from smoking related diseases, two of them I saw die first hand and it was not something I wish to experience again. However I still continue to smoke as I believe we must all die eventually and I figure well shit it's not like I plan on living till I'm 80. I am only 21 though so I doubt I will continue to think this way as I get older and maybe one day I will quit. I just think that right now it helps me, not physically but mentally like a placebo. I'mm not advocating smoking all I'm saying is that if you feel that you should smoke then by al means go ahead and smoke if not then don't, it is completely up to you. Just remember to take full responsibility for any and all diseases and illnesses contracted from smoking. You mad the choice not anyone else.

One third of Japanese men smoke, but many don't exceed one pack per day and have a much better diet than we do, and they have less than half the rate of heart and lung disease that we do. Well of course I would be if I exercised properly but I'm not gonna lie I'm a lazy fuck. When I get home from college and after I do my homework the last thing I wanna do is more work. As for the smoking I generally smoke out of boredom, I live in a desert I shit you not so there is really nothing to do out here. This at least for me causes massive boredom so I just sit my garage and watch the world while I smoke which sometimes can be for a few hours.

Re: Opinions on Smoking (and my View)

It's funny how people who have never smoked a day in their life die but people who smoke for 60 years don't. It's almost like it preserves you. lol
No, it's just not that big of a deal. Combined with other factors it certainly can be, smokers that have problems tend to not take care of themselves in many regards. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

I confess that I´ve been commiting a slow suicide with cigarettes for almos 18 years no. Tried to quit two times last year and I WILL quit. My reasons for starting to smoke were utterly stupid. I thought it looked cool when guys in AC/DC and Motörhead smoked. Especially Lemmy. True story! Then, it got hold of me and here we are, almost 20 years and god knows how many euros burnt in the air! I got kids, and I never smoke around them, nor anyone else. They don´t deserve it. Last time i tried to quit I told it to my doctor and he said it´s the wisest thing a man can ever do, concerning his health. Besides, I don´t want to support these faceless, remorseless companies that kill the Earth and millions of people, legally. There - many reasons to quit ehh? ;)

Doing vocals actually helped me quit cigarettes about ten years ago. Every time I wanted one, I'd remind myself that I had practice or a show coming up. I still have a cigar or smoke a pipe on occasion, but I can definitely feel the effects in my vocals for the next few days. Health in itself was never a good enough reason for me, I'm sorry to say.

Re: Opinions on Smoking (and my View)

I am all about freedom. If somebody wants to smoke' date=' let them smoke. It doesn't affect you. I'm not a smoker anymore but I will fight tooth and nail for their rights.[/quote'] It does affect me if I have to pay higher health insurance premiums when smokers are irresponsible of their finances and can't pay their doctor bills. Their diet and their doctors are just as much of a problem (if not more), but with freedom comes responsibility, and responsibility means not making others share your burden. • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
