Well shit. I hope your gf does alright until surgery, and obviously good luck and safe healing to your friend.

"Frostobo" is better than "Yobauđn", which means something like "Desolation of the Nigerian Footballer". I'm sure we'll find something that works.

I'm sorry to hear that. Hopefully everything will get fine.

He's a good kid, an aspiring bassist, and he was air drumming along with all the blastbeats. Hopefully some of it sticks. :D

I like that, i will never forget how good a feeling it was at 13 to discover metal to get that feeling of truly being at the start of a fantastic journey with so much to discover.  Your friend's son has my envy but also my blessing as a metalhead!

First day in my new role tomorrow which unfortunately means a trip to London.  Leaving the girlfriend to look after herself tomorrow.  I have lost count of how many times today I have had to tell her to sit down and stop doing things, to combat her turning her recovery back a few days whilst on her own tomorrow I have asked my mother to visit for an hour to make sure she is not stretching herself too much.

The family friend I mentioned has taken a turn for the worse overnight and has been moved now to a specialist neurosurgery unit at another hospital with a view to trying to remove the blood clot via surgery.

I wish the best for the two of them Macabre.

Ok let me get this straight I'm in the wrong for missing my appointment because after four hours of trying to get through, FOUR HOURS, I failed to inform you I was cancelling. Never mind that my guide dog is sick and could need rushing to the vet at any minute (and hasn't been purely because the vet told me to monitor him to see if he gets any worse - vomited twice this morning for reasons unknown but hasn't done so since). Apparently being disconnected after being on hold for an hour four times whilst worrying about the welfare of your assistance dog isn't a good enough reason to miss a standard appointment with this government agency.

Welp, I'm packing up my studio/painting room/personal space... :/

Finding a ton of shit I haven't actually looked at in at least eight years, some of it over a decade old. Our actual moving date is a week from this coming Saturday; my wife has three days left of work. X marks the spot where life gets hectic and weird.

I hope things look up for you guys soon. Parker, good to see you around, we're here to talk if you want.

As if I weren't stressed enough already. Today my brother told me he's decided to move interstate. This means I'm either going to have a complete stranger moving in at some point or I'll eventually have to take over his share of the rent and get the lease put in my name. He doesn't have the money to rent two places at once but that won't stop him from doing whatever he wants and screwing everyone else in the process.

Oh yeah and bathroom one flooded earlier this week so the door has warped and we have water damage on the carpets despite our best efforts to clean everything up. sigh. Plus I can't even move back home (as if I would want to) because they're renovating my old living space.

FA - I feel your pain! We take possession of our new place on the 29th of July. Moving house - what a torturous event that is.

We are remaining in our rental house for maybe 4-5 weeks so we can get the entire house painted and new carpets down. Don't ' need' to do that but we wanted to make it more our type of interior style if you know what I mean....,.

Dude, I'm not looking forward to the move.....but I kinda am because it's exciting. Have you started packing??? Wife excited???? How about your boy??....

So he's kinda left you out there with few options?? What a jerk.

Yeah that's the way it is with him. One of those people who gets bored easily and never plans things. It's a case of 'wow Cairns is great for a holiday' followed by 'actually you know what it's so great I think I'll move there'. No thought whatsoever given to the consequences for others. For example our other housemate is barely able to keep up with her portion of things as it stands currently. There's no way she can assume half of everything and she can't move back home for very complicated reasons. I'm break-even week-to-week and would find myself in trouble pretty quick if I had to pay any more.

In all likelihood he'll change his mind again but I just don't need this shit. Uni is fucked, I'm facing massive changes with my guide dog rapidly nearing retirement, my eyesight has gotten worse for the first time in a little while, still not totally familiar with the new surrounds, trying to reschedule various appointments, still making no progress on the job front and this to boot? What a great month I'm having.

Buying a new place must be exciting, best of luck to you guys. I hope you have time off work to get your place squared away. Are you having anybody to help, or someone to watch your son while you do the heavy work? The logistics of this are a bit harrowing for me; moving in NYC fucking blows, and I don't know how to occupy the buckaroo while we're loading and unloading and making sure nobody steals shit off the truck. I've got about half of my studio packed up right now, took me all day yesterday.

I know exactly what you mean about the interior, and I wish we had the opportunity to do that now - we're moving into a small apartment for a few months while we wait for a larger one to become available. Our landlord has something lined up, which we were initially going to rent now, but for whatever reason it won't be open till the fall. I've got some plans for the larger space.   ...mostly revolving around acoustic foam, and speaker and microphone placement. :D

My wife is pretty thrilled, thanks, and my son seems to be taking it in stride. He's mostly concerned with learning the card games we're playing lately. I wonder if he's internalizing any of the stress we feel. I'm psyched to get him some real furniture at last, and I hope I'll have the time to paint some of it fun colors, maybe do a bit of a Mickey Mouse theme.

Josh, hard to believe your brother is just leaving you in the lurch, that fucking sucks. Can you find another housemate? Then at least you won't be dealing with family, might help keep things a bit less personal.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
