He just quit just like that? Shitty! I hope you can find someone regular. Honestly, you guys are great candidates for one of the 8 or 16 track standalone hard disk recorders from Zoom or Tascam. Just make sure you get something with eight inputs so you can really mic the drums up. S400-$500, no computer needed. Make your recordings better and your lives easier.
It wouldn't make a difference, we only have about 4 microphones, so we'll never be able to mic it as well as we would like. Ideally, we would track individually, but what we got already sounds pretty decent. We'll see how the mix turns out, but I think it's got a shot, and it will at least accomplish what we wanted it to.

I don't know how many shots I've done. Yay me! And I've lost my cigarettes lol
It's a milestone! You trust us enough to drunk post. :D On a serious note, I'd like to offer a deeply felt "Fuck you" to all of the 15-25 year old moshpit assholes that cared more about their self-image than the music and allowed tonight's show to descend into a brawl. This was one of the most violent shows I've ever seen, and there was no need. They were fighting in between songs over horseshit. Kids in the audience got hurt. I didn't need to grow out of that mindset because I was never in it, and I don't understand it. These fucking morons need to stop going to shows.

I guessed right...no more beer for me. Also I just worked out that I'll spend at least seven hours a week on me trainer to go with the regular Saturday morning training ride. All in all that's 10 hours a week giving me 50 hours total to improve my fitness before tapering for nationals. I did warn y'all to expect a lot more cycling talk didn't I?

It's no wonder our community has such a shit image to the world at large, because the stereotypes often ring true. Bunch of fucking half-witted knuckle dragging children think that they're entitled to rage at everyone else's expense, bitches.

Our demo recording session was... interesting. Everyone showed up late and unprepared' date=' except our bass player, who only came by a couple of hours after we started to quit the band and pick up his gear. We were unable to get Mike's mixer to work, so with only 2 inputs, we had to mic the drums and the two guitars together and basically do a live demo. Our drummer is still relatively new and didn't feel confident with playing without the rest of us, so I guess we would have had to take that route anyway. Configuring the setup was a nightmare, with only having the two mics, we had to fuck with placement and levels for quite a while to get it balanced. Once we did though, we got a decent sound going, but we had lost so much time that we only got one track done. We're going to get together again next weekend and have left our setup alone so that we don't have to waste time again, as the next two songs that we're laying down are a bit more difficult. We were only going to do two initially, but we've decided that we want to re-record Bleak the way that we sound now, so we'll see how that goes. It's really just going to be a rough sounding demo, but it will give us something to let our fans sample, and give our artist Cody something to work with so that he can proceed.[/quote'] Ah man, I saw that about Mitch on Facebook, that sucks. Hope you find someone else soon, and good luck tracking the rest of the demo.

If I get drunk and pass out do you suppose that I will find a nifty new instrument? In my case it might be Japanese which would be cool. I'm drinking shochu which is a lightly distilled rice whiskey, it is basically extra strong sake. I always loved slam dancing, but I was courteous about it. There was a point when I noticed that a bunch of frat boy types, football players no doubt, who thought they had found a way to hurt people for fun. Slam dancing used to be a beautiful thing, a way of making physical contact with a room full of strangers. I found it to be cathartic and like being embraced in... well what can I say, it used to be ecstatic dancing. You kids nowadays ought to restore the mosh pit to the safe and communal venue of expression it once was. (if that seems a little poetic, blame it on the Sho-chu). The last time I was in Kyoto was in '06, and I have to say that fashion has toned down quit a lot since them. People are mostly dressed fairly conservatively these days. They Japanese are wicked stylish though. Another big change I noticed today is sort of sad in a few ways. When I was here before there were many old women here, very old women, who had severe osteoporosis. They had been little girls sometime well before WWII, and were not getting fed well enough as little children for whatever reason. Now they are basically gone, almost ten years later. I don't know what to think about that really. It is sad and strange. What else is on my mind... well... I've got a bad cold, and that sucks, I got in from my daughter just as we were coming over. Super snotty and can't breath all that well, but I'll be fine, so you need not worry about me.

Things are kind of awkward between the gf and I right now. We're not really talking (despite staying together on the weekend due to those cycling races being about 2 hours away) and she's really not acting like her usual self. I can't help but wonder what has brought on this sudden change in disposition.

The only thing you can do in this situations is try to talk about it, ask what's wrong.

All she'll say is it's not anything I've done. Something's got her really down and I just wish she'd tell me so I could help her out.
Tell her how you feel. Tell her you feel sad because she is distant and because you can't help her. Girls reacting differently when you start talking about your feelings.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
