You should give Pleiades' Dust another chance, it's fucking incredible.
Yeah I really should. It's entirely possible I just wasn't in the right mood to appreciate it at the time.

I quite enjoyed Coloured Sands honestly. It's very very different from Obscura but there are some nice riffs there. Although the production is weird, I've always felt something off about it. The EP they put out a year or so ago never grabbed me though.

Well, there's always Xasthur. Wolves in the Throne Room, while divisive, fit the bill as well. If you're feeling open minded, you could check out Revelations of the Black Flame by 1349.

Any love for them here? They were kind of a gateway band to grind for me. Longhena, their final album, is fantastic (although it could be argued it's a much melodic death metal as it is grindcore). Awesome atmosphere.
Interesting. It was my first MDB album to be fair, but I remember The Cry of Mankind really sticking with me and leaving an impact. It kind of reminded me of Brave from Katatonia though (the single note melodies), who I was much more familiar with at the time, and that may have been why I was drawn to it.

Is it just the vocals you don't care for on Angel and the Dark River? I don't really like them but I still dig the music.

Haha, what I meant was musically most viking metal seems to fit into either black or melodic death metal, with the lyrics being the main distinguishing factor.
I'm doing pretty well man. Life has definitely taken a lot of turns I would not have expected in the last couple of years, most good, some really bad, but all in all everything is good now. How about yourself?
