I am talking about morons who slag bands off and are very vocal about it, at gigs.. whatever. Not about deciding something isn't right for you and not bothering with it.  To be honest I was recalling

I completely agree.  One must have an understanding of something before they can fairly criticize it.

One of the worst is Velvet Cacoon.

Re: Worst black metal bands I especially find it hilarious that the accordion player is the breadliest guy there. :| But I do think that's a real band...I could be wrong, but I know they're a French group. Whether they're a parody group or not remains to be seen.

Re: Worst black metal bands

Dimmu Borgir is good, well, at least Their newest Album ''ABRAHADABRA'', ;D but we all think Different^^
You're right, they were good until Puritanical came out. That album was both the start of their rise in popularity and their downfall creatively. Everything afterwards has been incredibly bland & unoriginal IMO.

Re: Worst black metal bands

even in dimmu's darker days i would never class them as being one of the worst black metal bands :L
They were alright but they're boring now. Death Kult Armageddon was a joke. It was full of Mayhem and Cradle of Filth rip offs. I heard and sadly purchased the one after and it was just stupid. The first two tracks were good but the rest was filler. Plus the concept was painfully juvenile and has been done plenty of times before. I put them here, not because they're living the dream, not because they're popular, but because musically they've got nothing interesting or original to offer.

Re: Worst black metal bands OH GOD THE ELEPHANTS!!!!!! Anyways, if you want bad black metal, look no further than the crap released by Cryptopsy recently (by recently, I'm thinking around about 5 years). Oh, and there's also this:

While not being the WORST of black metal, I still think it's shitty. The vocals are the only thing making me say that though.

Re: Worst black metal bands

I think I might finally have found vocals more awful than metalcore. Ouch. At least the elephants were funny. Maybe they could sing about Hannibal's invasion of Rome?
While reading this, I was watching footage of a fire in the Australian countryside, and was almost on the floor laughing. Suffice to say, if my Mum didn't think I was crazy already, she does now.

Re: Worst black metal bands Satanic Destroyer. Words can't describe. Definitely can't agree with Ildjarn and Abruptum, Forest Poetry is awesome and Abruptum had some cool/creepy material. Haven't heard enough from the others to say, and despite liking plenty of USBM, I've honestly only heard maybe one or two Krieg songs and can't really remember them.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!
