  1. I like it. The composition is great, the solos are good and fit the music while going beyond "look what I can do". The synth elements fit in pretty well. I feel that the overall equalization could maybe use less lows ans more mids (particularly in the rhythm guitar). Love the way the lead guitar and backing instruments interact with each other. Some of your stuff comes of a little Yngwie-ish, are you a fan or just using harmonic scales now and then? Seeing as I sat through the whole stream and enjoyed it, I'm off to Bandcamp.
  2. Sorry to hear about the blood, good luck with the interview. That sucks, man. Have you cancelled it?
  3. Got a system working that lets me use Bandcamp Black Harvest: Attrition Cognizance: Illusory Pyrrhorn: What Passes For Survival
  4. A bass break somewhere would've been nice. I only found out he was on the album reading the booklet, would never have guessed from the sound. Even for tech stuff, there's still a bit of wriggle room between not being able to hear the notes and being unnecessarily sterile in your rhythm guitar tone.
  5. I do really like the new Testament album, my only complaint would be that they had Steve Di Giorgio on the album (and in the band) but didn't seem to make as good of use of him as they could have. Oh well, I guess too many obnoxious bass solos or distinct basslines wouldn't really sound like Testament. Yeah, I can't say I really understand it.
  6. *cough cough* Kreator *cough Anthrax *cough cough every second thrash band. I did see the video. It was neato. I think they're just making everything as clean and spacious as possible to compete at with more modern bands (Distirbed, Five Finger Death Punch etc.) to attract a modern audience. I have friends that only like modern production.
  7. Yeah, I don't think that Metallica would be doing that, thought as it is usually a resource used by people for convenience sake, like not wanting to make noise with an amp or wanting to be able to only record once but being able to change tones a thousand times. I don't think they'd be doing something like that as computer generated distortion does not really tend to sound great and they have as much time and space as they could possibly need to record. I think the main difference is probably in amp EQ settings, guitar settings, and editing (specifically spectral and volume editing for the sake of cleanliness and consistency). Testament would be recording digitally so the clipping can't be the main thing unless someone has set up an almighty hybrid workstation with witch to apply analogue compression. You can get a dirty, crunchy tone using digital equipment pretty easily.

  9. Totally agree. I doubt Metallica are using modelling amps, (and modelling amps can sound gritty) and DAWs are just tools used to organise sound, they do not necessarily change tone (Testament would definitely be using a DAW). What you're hearing would come down to choices in editing (EQ, high/low cuts, digital compression), the difference between analog and digital recording (analog clipping can sound good, digital clipping tends to sound bad) and choices in guitars, amps. pedals. and guitar and amp settings (so, less mids, for instance would reduce the amount of crunch, more lows would mean more flabbyness etc.).
  10. Preparation for Next Show: II - Grand Ruinous- Blackhelm Beneath the Frozen Sky- Hollow World Rust Proof (s/t) Sentient Cognizance- Nemesium Daemon Pyre (s/t) Also been listening to the Fumigation/Path to R'lyeh split a lot and checked out a bit of the stuff in the OSDM thread.
  11. MegaDave said he'd be entering the studio late this year, I think I might be more exited about that than most forum members. The Path to R'Lyeh Facebook page just said "The next album will be much more tech death" does this mean there are songs written ?
  12. Welcome. Whats the significance of 1969? Your birth date? The moon landing? The beginning of Scooby Doo?
  13. My name is also a commonly used verb that expresses future tense. @Requiem needs to see this too.
  14. You forgot to tag @Requiem. He likes to be tagged in things...
  15. Oh, you're putting a plate on the speaker, finding resonance, and observing the Chladni figures, I thought you were just putting salt on the cone and watching it bounce around. I'm pretty sure this would work considerably better with continuous singular notes (as seen in the video) rather than music of changing pitch as the changing pitch would change the position of the nodes quickly and not allow the salt to settle in them. I couldn't find much conclusive proof of this but... It's less good at relieving stress than self-selected music or classical music (although, in our case, metal would be our self-selected music, so it'll work just fine for us) https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10484-007-9043-9 "the use of music for vicarious release was inversely related to suicidal risk for girls" https://link.springer.com/article/10.1023%2FA%3A1010492128537?LI=true -a relation for one gender, that's something but not really proof of cause and effect. "Studies have found a relationship between various genres of music and antisocial behaviours, vulnerability to suicide, and drug use. However, studies reject that music is a causal factor and suggest that music preference is more indicative of emotional vulnerability." http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1080/10398560701879589 "The findings indicate that extreme music did not make angry participants angrier; rather, it appeared to match their physiological arousal and result in an increase in positive emotions. Listening to extreme music may represent a healthy way of processing anger for these listeners" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4439552/ So, it is good for you if you're a fan.
  16. I'm alive, no complaints. How are you? Welcome.
  17. Any of the Aussies on here thinking of going to download 2018? I count a few bands I'm really super interested in seeing (Korn, Suicidal Tendencies, Gojira, Psycroptic (of course), King Parrot). Anyone else interested?
  18. Havok: Conformicide I was given an iTunes voucher so bought a couple of things that I've wanted for a while but know I have little chance of getting a physical copy of. Hadal Maw: Senium Fumagation/Path to R'lyleh: Invasion
  19. To me, some of their lyrics seem designed to sound cool without really making much sense. In a lot of their songs, even when people do their best to interpret meaning (like on SongMeanings), they can only explain about half of the lines. I'n not some purist who loaths the band and is trying just pick in them whenever I can (I actually like some of their songs and have a couple of their albums) but I don't think lyrics are their strong point. Welcome to the forum, by the way. I hope that you aren't a one-time-poster and I didn't type that up for nothing.
  20. Welcome, looking forward to seeing your other contributions.
  21. Have way more time for guitar in trimester 3 Cover songs I'm currently playing Deicide: Repent to Die Sepultura: Arise Slayer: Raining Blood (Playing guitar and vocals with band for a cover) Judas Priest: Screaming for Vengeance Lamb of God: Laid to Rest (Relearning) Megadeth: Hangar 18 Cannibal Corpse: Covered with Sores Gorguts: La vie est Prelude Yngwie Malmsteem: Blackstar (not really started this one yet) Also got a song for a band around 80% written (needs some basslines, solos, lyrics and maybe another riff to make the structure less boring). Also working on a solo for the Jared Dines thing (about 90% written, needs to be recorded). Good luck. You're pretty ahead of schedule.
  22. Your welcome. Warrior is my rank (based on how many posts I've made), my name's Will (admittedly less terrifying).
  23. Welcome to the forum.
