What's on your mind?

I have a hard time imagining anything good about navigating either NYC or DC with limited vision. But' date=' I wish you all the luck in the world, and I'd love to meet up if you do come over.[/quote'] To be fair these are challenges I will face regardless of where I end up in the US. There are tools available to better facilitate navigating various environments and I'm sure the US has some sort of blind welfare organisation I could contact to aid in that department as well. If I'm going to move overseas I can only see it being the US, don't get me wrong the UK and Europe are nice places to visit but I just don't think I could live there, Perhaps what I'll need to do is drop my degree altogether and try to get into an undergrad degree at a university in California.

Iceni' date=' are you planning to stay in DC after graduation?[/quote'] I'd like to. If my dad does this move, I will almost by default stay in DC. Most of the jobs I'd be interested in are here, so unless grad school proves doable in the short term I probably will try to stick around DC.

I didn't think you'd actually be coming to Georgetown itself if you were in DC...Georgetown is fairly pleased with its law program and a cursory look at Hoya Career Connection reveals a plethora of entry-level (and above) legal jobs and internships.
Yeah my own research has more or less convinced me Georgetown is the best of my three options if I'm going to take the direct transfer route. I plan to do a little digging on my alternative route and see where that leads before making the decision. This is a monumentally huge decision and I want to explore every avenue available before making a final decision.

Naah, I'm not so optimistic. It's always something wrong when it comes to me. I can just hope that everything will be okay, hah. Thank you for your support.c:
I'm sorry to hear you feel that way, that's a hard hole to dig yourself out of. As Yobo suggests, it's all temporary; the negative stuff will always pass. I hope you feel better soon.

It's for sure easier said than done, but believe in yourself and stuff :) Everyone is going through some hard times sometimes, or something else for whatever reason, but that doesn't mean you have to give up. Stay strong and hopefully everything turns out right :)

I'm getting more satisfied with my physical appearance. Very slowly though... But better ever than never. But I'm also getting more and more psychically unstable... Again.
That sounds foreboding Sugar Pill, and along with your handle, it makes me think you have a psychiatric problem like depression or bipolar or some such. Forgive me for speculating in public without knowing you. That sort of thing can be dreadful I'm sure, not that I know from personal experience. I sincerely hope that you will be alright, hope you have a good support system.

Pain is relative yo. Just gotta let yourself create a vacuum where you know that whatever hurls toward you can be deflected and used to your advantage. Took me years to learn, and I even still struggle with it to this day but it does work. Idunno if im the best guy to take advice from BUT my mantra is, nothing less than a shot to the head can kill me, just fuck me up a little bit, and I can always come back and be way more badass than before. Damage is like a tattoo, makes you way more interesting to look at. haha

But now is just...bad.

I feel like I wasted my time and money last night seeing 1349 and Necrophagia. Necrophagia played nothing off of their debut, which is the only interesting thing they've done, and the drummer that 1349 had standing in for Frost was abysmal. They were already playing their songs slower for him, and he still couldn't keep up. He kept losing time and skipping notes to make it up, totally changing the cadence of the phrase, and his double bass work was obscenely bad. Maybe he didn't suck outright, but 1349 was well over his playing level. The production was also garbage, those awful drums were at the top of the mix, followed by bass, vocals, and guitar, which was buried throughout most of the set.

Enjoyable week off so far, in between packing my life into boxes I have managed to spend a few hours on the Xbox and this morning got to go to the waterfront (not as far as the sea) and sit in the sun with my book. Off to visit my grandmother for the day tomorrow and haven't had a single thought about work which already seems a million miles away.

The year is simply flying by. Really don't feel I've accomplished anything this year which is disappointing given the amount of effort I'm putting into finding work among other things. Oh well such is life. Have my second ever radio interview tomorrow discussing guide dogs and the challenges associated with being a guide dog owner which should be fun.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
