What's on your mind?

Busy week ahead. Seriously considering asking for a pay rise with all the extra shit I am taking on at present. Traveling all over the show as well to meetings and showcases which is tiring as well as tedious at times. Also spent a great afternoon with the girlfriends family yesterday - I am not by nature a social kind of person but I genuinely enjoyed yesterday which has given me new perspective beyond my usual hermitesque existence.

So, earlier, I made a collage of a few bands I like. 4vgsv9.png
You have some great taste Steve but tell me who are Callenish Circle? Their name is terrible and makes them sound like a brand of expensive white wine. Nice to see Arsis in there - Relentless Oblivion put me on to them recently and I am enjoying them on regular plays at present especially "A Celebration Of Guilt".

Re: What's on your mind?

Nevertanezra, of course, isn't on Spotify... so now I need to wait until I have the money to order an album... That means I can't spend that money on pot... I need a better way to get money.
Sorry about that, we can't be everywhere just yet. The album's not too expensive though, I think with shipping it's $12, but if you want our first EP to come with it, it's $15 for the pair. You're in the US so shipping isn't so bad, I wish we could give the same price to our fans abroad, but we would essentially be giving them away... Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

That's awesome Steve! How long did that take to make?
About 3 hours. I just put my favorites of my 10,000 song playlist on there. The highly favored ones are those that I made obviously bigger (Arsis, Cynic, Ghost Brigade, Callenish Circle, My Dying Bride, Obscura, maybe a few others...). It was pretty fun to make, honestly. Hard fitting all of them on there, though.

Callenish Circle (I like the name) is a highly underrated melodeath band. Forbidden Empathy, their latest album as far as I'm aware, is a lot darker than the others and is what got me into darker music. They compose some amazing music. Still one of my favorites.

Re: What's on your mind?

Just read a page on a christian forum about a bible humper getting angry about his son listening to Metal' date=' is it me or are most Christians on the forums judgemental tight arses?[/quote'] The internet is majestic for making so much information available, but is abominable for giving any retard with a keyboard and a connection a voice that carries far and wide. There is just as much (if not more) widespread idiocy abound on the internet as there is is useful info. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

Blut I have a question are you Micheal Ventura, Jayke Smith, or Mitch Moody? And more importantly after being active since 1999 how are you guys not signed? I listened to some of your music more specifically your EP and it was awesome so what the fuck is going on? I'm angry at you as the previous comment might suggest but how in the hell has no one picked you guys up? Oh and here is your bands own page Nevertanezra - Encyclopaedia Metallum: The Metal Archives

Re: What's on your mind? I'm Jayke Smith, Mike Ventura also posts on this forum as NTNR, but Mitch isn't on here. Mike started the band as a solo project in '99, but it wasn't until around '08-09 that the project recorded or released anything more than rehearsal tapes. I joined in '09, learning to play guitar as I went, and ended up helping to write and arrange the full length album (I joined after the EP was complete). I'm now also the vocalist as well, and Mike and I are handling the songwriting for the new material we're working on equally, which I think is the best stuff the band has done. As far as why we're not signed, I'm not sure. We live in Utah, which has a strange metal scene that despite having some good bands doesn't get much attention. We sent copies of the album into a few labels, but received no responses, despite hearing nothing but positive things from everyone who reviewed it across the metal community (I think the lowest score we ever received from a reviewer was 7/10, and we did receive a couple of perfect scores too). We're hoping that our next album will generate more interest though, and as we keep making new connections within the community, we hope that we can spread our music more effectively to people that would enjoy it. For Blut. Tomorrow I'm going to a town which has this on draft. IMG_1112_zpsd52973f3.jpg I'll have a couple for you, cheers.
Had a pint of that today at Carr Mill Dam, was very refreshing in this heat. The pub even had proper Greene King glasses with handles too. The downside was the cricket was on and I nearly fell asleep in my pint - cricket is rubbish. On my mind is an unexpected shake up at work which may dent my career aspirations - my big boss (big in terms of seniority not big as in fat) is at risk of redundancy and his job is pretty specialist. I was hoping to be sufficiently trained and experienced to be considered for his post if he ever moved on or got promoted but if they are doing away with his post then that puts a dampner on that idea.

Well shit man that sucks but I'm guessing it's because we are american, not to say there's not any good american metal bands, but we do get criticized a lot for promoting shitty bands. I honestly think we have the worst good metal band to bad metal band ratio of the world since all these damn record labels with parent companies like warner bros sign any shit band that has just a hint of metal sound and goes around promoting the fuck out of them. It's because of this that we americans get a bad wrap when it come to the metal scene. Our saving grace is that we did come up with the idea for metal in general so I guess if you take that into consideration it's not to bad. My point is is this is why bands like your have a hard time getting started the market has been flooded with crap and it's fucking it up for the good bands. By the way if you couldn't tell I really like your band, I don't listen to whole lot of doom metal so when I heard In the face of Despair it kinda blew me away.

There are lots of good bands that get recognized here, just not on the scale of mainstream acts. It is what it is, but I think that many bands just need to be heard to find their fanbase. Without getting signed or having good contacts, this can be difficult to do, especially when there aren't even many high profile acts that we can open for in a place like Utah. Believe me I know as I live in a desert and the nearest metal scene is at least 2 hours driving. It sucks not being able to find people who like metal whether as a musician or a metalhead. In the place I live i've found 4 people who like metal 2 of which I don't talk to anymore. It's definitely not easy being in a metal band and I knew a few people who were trying to start one up but couldn't find someone to play drums and that killed the band before it even started. I do hope you guys get signed soon but just don't forget about the people on here. I believe I speak for at least most the people on here when I say we're supporting you 100% keep up the good work and I'll even make sure to spread the word. May not be much since it's only 2 people but every bit helps right.

it seems we have another Nevertanezra fan, on the subject of which do you guys have any copies of the album left? I showed a friend of mine "To Suffocate" and she digged it so I'm trying to talk her into first joining our little forum and second buy a copy of the album. and you'd better not disappoint talking up the second album then releasing a major letdown like so many other bands :D

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
