What happened?

Found a lost set of keys at the bus stop, missed my bus whilst taking them to nearby petrol station, part I left out from my FB and the HWYD thread? Petrol station attendant, seeing my guide dog, says she can't take them and I'll need to go to a police station to hand them in. This added an extra hour to my day and a walk home in 30 degree heat. Obviously the dog was not happy with this as there's no shade along the route so ground would have been rather hot.

Trying to find way to lose weight

Take up cycling :D yes I'm biased but it isn't a load bearing form of exercise which is particularly good if you're on the heavier side or have joint problems. Swimming is also great as it is another non-weight bearing exercise. The most effective way to lose weight is through aerobic exercise and a proper diet.

Speaking of cycling today we caught every red light ever on the tandem. Averaged near as makes no difference 40km/h over about 70km. We did kind of have the rear brake rubbing a bit and broke a spoke near the end but I'm satisfied with today. Certainly improving week on week which is fantastic.

Too lazy to do the conversion but I would advise non-weight bearing forms of exercise such as cycling, swimming, or rowing. You want to be using your aerobic energy system during exercise as that is where you'll see results. You'll also want to (dramatically) improve your diet. No more fast food for you mister.

I lost nearly 5 stone a few years ago. Gained a little again and lost 2 stone again in the last 6 months. My problem is that I keep losing weight and lose my curves, losing weight has never been a problem to me, staying on the weight I want is. You should also realize that when you lose weight the fat goes but the skin doesn't. My advise is to watch what you eat, ingredient wise. Don't go for ready made meals, don't go for ready made sauces, check the ingredients in everything. If you can't pronounce it, your body won't recognize it and store it as fat. Keep away from sugar free products because they contain more shit that is bad for you than sugar has. Start using coconut oil rather than normal oil. Eat more fruit and veg but build it up rather than sudden changes. Don't try crazy diets, just cut out on the soft drinks, take away and ready made meals. Start cooking tasty dinners and cook 4 times more than you need. Freeze 3 portions and eat one so you have ready made meals for when you are lazy that are healthy. And eat at regular times before you get hungry, you will eat more when you are hungry. Don't be too hard on yourself, you can have a snack between meals. Go for dark chocolate rather than milk chocolate though and try to replace a snack with yogurt or fruit. And keep walking. An hour a day is enough. Don't rush things, the quicker you lose weight, the more problems you will have with excess skin. (I mean this all in the best way possible, hope I don't sound like an annoying so and so)

Why would you not want to do weight bearing exercise? Anaerobic exercise is what builds lean body mass and increases your metabolism, which would make cardio even more effective.

There are exceptions but generally speaking it is beneficial to build a base before transitioning into more strenous workouts. It also creates a routine which means once you hit a target weight it's easier to maintain. There's a reason most Biggest Loser contests don't keep the weight off. They aren't taught the discipline required to properly maintain a healthy lifestyle. It's just x number of weeks with a PT then off you go and good luck with no attempt to actually change their behavioural patterns. On top of that going straight into extremely demanding exercise like that after years of doing nothing poses very real health risks for participants.

The client I am working with at present is in Carlisle and one of the team sent me a picture earlier of the town underwater basically.  There's no trains running because the lines have been flooded so as well as having tomorrow off I might be working from home a lot this week.

On a different note I may have secured the funding for a deposit to buy a house although I need to read into a few things more thoroughly but the situation is looking more positive than it was a few weeks ago.

Today's weather kind of sucks. 40 degrees celsius (which I don't mind) but with 85% humidity. It's not even eight in the morning yet and the mercury is nudging 30. On the bright side summer storms developing late in the day and lasting the week mean low 20s from tomorrow to Saturday.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
