It wasn't. As previously stated the ENTIRE STATE lost power for an extended period of time. There was major flooding and coastline damage. Every river catchment is full to capacity at present so another bad storm will cause even more problems.

Not to worry though we're going from flood and damaging wind warnings to fire danger warning by week's end. Temperatures approaching 40 celsius from Friday through to next week.

I've quit university. (philology, English department)

Now I'm looking for a job. Also considering doing military service - it's not mandatory and it lasts 6 months, but I don't know what exactly they do there (besides regular training and drills). I mean one can't learn to drive tanks and planes ofc, but at least properly handling different sorts of guns would be nice.

Good luck, dude. Can you return at a later time if you want to?

Gorguts was phenomenal. Insanely tight performance that captured every nuance of their EP - even the ambient feedback passages are scripted and rehearsed. Patrice Hamelin is a fucking beast. They played the entirety of Pleiades' Dust, one tune off of Colored Sands, and then went backwards: Inverted, Carnal State, Obscura, and Orphans Of Sickness. It was amazing to get punched in the face with the old stuff, they totally shifted gears.

Intronaut is a frustrating band to me: I want to like them, but I don't. They're excellent musicians with some really cool ideas, and at their best they combine the aggression of Isis with some of the proggier textures of Tool and even shades of King Crimson. Some of their dynamic shifts are very effective. Their drummer is amazing. I even like some of the clean vocal harmonies. But the clean vocals are lifeless, the delivery comes off as whiny somehow, and the songs lose steam pretty quickly, devolving into farty prog excursions that go on for too long. Their set felt like a non-event.

Technically I still can (as I haven't officially signed the papers), but I don't want to. I'm looking at my brothers as "models". Both of them studied for too long - one has like 2 exams now in October to graduate Law (technically he has graduated, this is something extra, like a Master's degree) and the other is working but still has 4 exams to graduation (Sports)
I don't have enough motivation to study, so why waste more money on studies, when I can earn them myself and spend them/save them. I can spend saved money in buying a machine (wood or metal cutting maybe), have a private business working from home.
Not to mention that in Serbia it's even hard for people with a degree to get a job in their field.

Huh, yeah, I mean, I don't know what the demand for English majors is over there, but here it's a running joke. Having said that, I think it's too bad that you're no longer motivated, and I wonder what you mean by studying "for too long" - are your brothers happy with what they're doing? Are they likely to be in a better situation in a few years because of the work they're putting in now? How much longer do you have to go for your degree and what will it cost? Do you think you'll have success starting your own business? I often think about the cost and practicality of my own degree, I'm not saying you should stick with it, just think it through. I almost gave up on college a few times, and I'm glad I didn't. On the other hand, I left high school early and I half wish I'd left sooner.

It's the university isn't hard, but like my mom told me "Tenacious people finish universities, not smart ones"... and I'm not tenacious x)

And there really is a difference between countries. Don't know where you live, but you'd have to live for some time in Serbia to understand how things work here.

Luckily enough there are a lot of factories in/around my town, so lack of workplace won't be a problem...and I'm not afraid of labor.
I have thought everything through, but it just doesn't work for me...

(brother studying Law wasted 10 years on studies, the one with Sports wasted 8).

I wish you all the best with your future plans DukeThylacine, you obviously know what you want, so I say just do what you honestly believe to be best.

Also here I am looking very nonplussed at one of the local pubs on last Wednesday's pub crawl around he local town (I think this was at the second stop), that night I only got mildly tipsy.

A few things here:

1. How much salt and pepper do students need?

2. That cucumber menu your mate is holding looks a tad generic.

3. This is the only pub crawl photo ever without any alcohol in shot (i assume that's water in those pint pots - or if it is Carling then that also explains the colour)?

4. Girl to your left in the denim jacket?  HELL YEAH BABY!!!!!

5. Girl to your right who has draped her hair in the blood of the last person she murdered?  HELL YEAH BABY!!!!

6. Beer mats were harmed during the making of this photograph!

Cool! Is there any subject in particular you want to teach? Any age group?

So far, I am quite interested in the family aspect of pedagogy, but I am not sure yet of course. I have still 1,5 to decide about that. And age group would be probably something between 8 and 16. That is quite broad, but there are so many options left for now.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
