Dungeon synth is great! Some other good bands are Old Tower and Oldenhelm (especially his Relics of Long Lost Power demo). Check out the Dungeon Synth Archives on youtube for lots of other albums/bands both old and new.

I went to a Tibetan bowl and gong concert yesterday. It was some really interesting music.

I recently discovered an old Norwegian band called Troll. I am unsure about how obscure they are, but they only ever produced one demo (which I thought was quite good).

Welcome! How long have you played the guitar, and what style do you like to play the best?

My first demo is now on youtube. I plan on releasing my future material there.

I guess that it might just depend on the atmosphere that is the goal. I would imagine that senses of solitude, nature, and the like might be much harder to create inside a concert venue.

I imagine that for many bands, atmosphere in their music can only really be at its full potential in a studio. Everything would have to be just right, and the dynamics of a live performance would likely present too many uncertainties to capture the same sound. That being said, they are many bands that can create the experience that they want live (Mayhem, Sunn O))), etc.).

"Das Tor" - Paysage d'Hiver

I had to order it internationally in order to secure a copy. It is my understanding that all of the cd releases are very limited, and many had already sold out. The remaining albums that are available are mostly his ambient ones. Nevertheless, it is definitely worth checking out.

It is a large digibook, and is made from an interesting textured cardboard.

I just got my copy of "Das Tor" by Paysage d'Hiver. Nicest packaging I have seen for a CD so far!

Drudkh? They did a split with Paysage d'Hiver last year. I only listened to the Drudkh half once, and have yet to listen to the other PdH portion. It was good, but just not nearly as great as some of their earlier material.

I liked it, but it was not nearly as good as the Oldenhelm one.

I always liked Slayer's "Show No Mercy." The songs are catchy and aggressive, and were windows to what they would become as a band.

Definitely! Its one of my favorite albums.

I have high hopes for the new Drudkh album, but am unsure how great it will be in light of their last album.

They have so many versions of the album that it is difficult to keep track of them! I suppose that it was unnecessary for me to order my copy from Poland after all.
