You too' date=' huh? Both of my box truck drivers showed up an hour late today, which was, of course, the same day that they had extra morning pickups and morning rush deliveries. We were bombarded with other orders at the same time, and they made it so everyone left late, and we had quite the clusterfuck to wade through to get there.[/quote'] What kind of work do you do? And yeah, I first had a course of 7 hours, which became immensely emtionally difficult after 2 hours. I've been really down since then. It's been a long day.

There are some cool riffs on the new ATG. At their best' date=' they're reminiscent of some bits on Terminal Spirit Disease. The automatic nature of the rest of the riffs, especially the plodding "chuggy" parts, drags them down. Adrian sounds bored and Tomas sounds mostly one-dimensional. Part of it's a production thing, part of it's the performances - this album lacks the expressiveness of any of their previous releases (even SOTS), even if the music is more varied. If you're looking for something to enjoy here, you'll find it; if you're looking for a reason to write this album off, you'll find that, too. I guess that means it has something for everyone...[/quote'] Jup, agreed. Not the comeback I was hoping for...

Soulless and pointless definitely applies although the words 'kitschy' and 'sentimental' come to mind as well. And yet year after year my mom watches it by live stream. Honestly' date=' holidays are almost always more fun celebrating with just your family.[/quote'] I can understand watching it on tv as a way of being connected to national culture, but having been around there and seen the crowds firsthand, actually being there seems like an exercise in misery. I don't get the tradition to begin with, though, and I agree; I'd totally rather spend the time with my family and/or close friends.

I borrowed a friend's bike last night to get home' date=' and I'd forgotten what a huge difference there can be between the feel of a bike and what's actually happening. I've ridden with him a lot, all over the city, so I know my own bike is much faster, newer, and objectively "better", but his bike is just more fun to ride. It feels faster even though it's not.[/quote'] It's very interesting how different one bike can feel from another. Even on bikes which are pretty much the same subtle differences in the stem length, different handlebars, etc can make them feel radically different.

This one was different in so many ways - bigger tires, smaller wheels and chain rings, shorter cranks - but it was big enough that I could ride it with a little seat adjustment. It was a ton of fun, easy to get started, short and almost too maneuverable but great in corners. It was like a bigger, better version of my old bike. I'm much faster on my current bike, and it's very stable, but for short city rides it's nowhere near as enjoyable.

Well an old "friend" sent me a friend request on Facebook today. This person has fucked me over in so many ways over the years, I know there is some agenda. I know better than to let my guard down, but still it's confusing and it struck a deep nerve. I feel overwhelmed. Simply seeing this person's face made me sick to my stomach. I wish I knew what to think right now...

That sounds like a superior way to spend nearly any evening' date=' holiday or no.[/quote'] To be honest my parents and brother have been watching a lot of good thriller shows when I'm off at college; they've picked up Castle, Burn Notice, MI-5 and recently 24. Speaking of which, there was something really funny about one set of episodes in 24; there was this very unpleasant guy who drove a Lexus SC430, which I argued to my parents is exactly the kind of car you'd expect to be driven by an abusive, petty weakling making pretensions to greatness. I later found out, with a feeling of vindication, that Top Gear actually rated it the Worst Car In The History of the World.

I've cut a couple of people out before and I have zero regret about having done so, if they're unhealthy for you then they have to go.

I've enjoyed all of those shows at times. Castle was fine for brainless fluff, Burn Notice was definitely a cut above that, and the middle few seasons of MI-5 and the first two seasons of 24 were superb. I'd like to see the rest of Burn Notice; the other ones went off the rails at some point.

I too have a pending friend request (for about 9 months now) from someone that I'd very much like to punch in the throat. I'm ignoring the request hoping it bugs the shit outta her. We also live in the same town so there's always a chance of running into her, I honestly don't know how I'd react if that were to happen. You can always block them. Try not to dwell on it too much :)

I think they've got almost all of 24 so that's nice. My parents also like watching The Borgias and period dramas, both of which bore my brother to death.

yeah I just get like this
You know, sometimes people just need space, or time or whatever. The only thing to do is play it cool, and let them have it. You can't force them to want to get in touch with you. I know it can be frustrating, but she'll get back in touch when she wants to, and if she doesn't, then you haven't really lost that much.

I've given up on the fifth season twice, after barely making it through the fourth. I haven't seen any of the HBO period dramas aside from Rome - the latter half of the first season and the beginning of the second were great, though they had to wind down in a pretty awkward way once they got cancelled.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
