Nah 18-20 was me at my best. Particularly at Halo I was untouchable. Now my brilliance is limited to fighters and destroying the AI in racing games.
I always hated halo, i was terrible at manual aiming, to the point I would be in a gun battle with my opponent and next thing I know I am shooting at God know's what in the sky...

I was the opposite' date=' using the reticle in Halo to aim manually is much easier then in COD. I can still occasionally put on a show but more often then not these days Halo sends me into controller throwing fits of rage.[/quote'] One time I got real pissed in Happy Wars and threw a highlighter at my wall and made smoke detector fly off.....two years ago.....still not back on. haha

My funniest gamerage incident involved a string of Anchorman, Dodgeball and Monty Python quotes being shouted (whilst wearing my headset so everyone could hear me) the distraction factor was sufficient to get me back into the game though: apparently it is difficult to play Gears Of War while rolling on the floor laughing.

Playing any shooter using joypad is difficult and imho not enjoyable. The only one which wasn't frustrating for me was GTA V, but it's not a real shooter, rather something like "no need to point, just shoot a lot". Because of playing Quake 3 a lot (I've spent over 7000hrs in-game, but I've quit years ago) every console controller seems to be fucking unprecise and slow. For anyone who want to argue with it, I propose a duel in any PC online shooter you choose. It's easy to set a controller to work properly. It would be a short one...

Configuring a keyboard with the various prompts required to shoot, switch weapons, use equipment, throw grenades, move, change direction, aim down the sight of your weapon etc would just be confusing. Having an actual control with a clear layout makes things so much easier. For example in Halo the right trigger shoots, left trigger throws grenades, right bumper reloads, left bumper changes between grenades, Y changes and picks up weapons, A jumps, B melees, X deploys equipment, right analogue stick changes direction, pressing the right analogue stick aims down the scope, left analogue stick moves, pressing the left analogue stick crouches. You can overcome any issues by adjusting the sensitivity in-game (I used to run at a 7 for look sensitivity in Halo 3 but now run at a 3). I've been a console gamer all my life and barring emulators for GB games and the odd flash game like Pandemic 2 see no point in playing video games on PC.

Hey, but this works really similar in PC games, most of them have nearly the same controls that you're familiar with. Not only one series, but the whole FPS genre. Little differences are easier to change (or maybe backwards - usually impossible to do on console) and a precision of keyboard/mouse set is totally different world. Yeah, there are some cons. Good pc control set cost is equal to about 3 joypads. Impossible to play in horizontal position. You need comfortable height of a thing under your wrist, and some free space to put a mousepad on it. But when you confront with a guy with a pad in hand... it's like kickboxing with quadruple amputee. But don't think I'm a PC-warrior or what. I have my good old PS3 and prefer to play on it, but mostly platformers, car racing, beat 'em ups and a few more... unfortunately skilling myself in a hardcore playing just changed my pov forever. I just can't stand the situation when game helps me, just takes me by the hand from location to location, because I feel then like a retard. Don't know how Rockstar did it that good in gta v. But when I finished it, the game I've tried to sunk in was Bulletstorm and I felt retarded or treated like a little child for the whole time. Game is easy, much easier than PC version and reasons of that are obvious.

It's basically me in a flannel shirt, but there was also a hat that went with it that I wasn't wearing at the time, it made my head sweaty within minutes. Winter was adorable though.

PC gaming is best gaming. The precision afforded to you by the mouse/keyboard combo is spectacular. Plus my favorite games are PC exclusive. Not to mention modding.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
