And then of course there's the Orca. Just our luck, him we can't get rid of, eh Doc?

I have this mental image of him in his wifey and shorts scratching his balls while he types one handed and  I wish I had never thought it.

CROW BLACK SKY - Sidereal Light, Vol. Two. A bit heavy handed with the synth and goanna, but Im quite enjoying it.

Just listened to that Abolish album (or about half of it anyway) a little while ago and was gonna post it, but you beat me to it. Good shit.

Night of the Nuke - Dig in the Ashes, blackened crust from Sweden. Thought I'd found one of these crusty records on my own on Felopunk, but a quick forum search tells me Marko beat me to it, he posted this 9 days ago on Dec 26th. Definitely going on my crust list.

Geheimnisvoll - The Endless Void of Eternal Suffering and Enslavement, USBM. The first 2024 album I've listened to, just came out yesterday. Pretty good raw black metal, but I'm not ready for 2024 albums yet, still tryna make my '23 list.

The fact that you have an image of anyone "in his wifey" while "scratching his balls" shows what you use the internet for and why you are so slow at responding to posts.

What's a goanna? Google search tells me it's some kind of a lizard, but that wouldn't make any sense in the context of your statement.

I do often forget that it's so god-damned hot down there all the time so I usually picture him in overalls like a proper farmer with a couple of stray goats following him around everywhere he goes and sniffing his ass. Still scratching his balls and typing one-handed though. But FFS I just realized that I scratch my balls and type two-fingered as well, what of it? I don't do the wife beater thing though, except for July & August I pretty much have on 3 layers at all times. It gets damn chilly here in the winter and I don't want to waste a lot of money on heat when I can just put on a hoodie.

Alternately, he could just have an actual life outside of the metal forum. Unlike some of us. I know he likes to faff about in his garden. Maybe he even turns off the computer and interacts with his family sometimes. Maybe he and the Mrs like to get frisky around lunchtime now that the kids have moved out, and that's why he only checks in every several hours.

So we've gone from me being in my wifey and having itchy balls to goats sniffing my crack. No wonder I rage quit this place, you lot are all psychos.

I do wonder though, if I'm typing one handed, and the goat man is typing with two fingers (and presumably sniffing a farmer's ass), yet we can generally typo without major typos and bad grammar WTF is the doc doing?

Or he could be patting his goanna in the garden while he's faffing

You'll never quit mate, you love this place too much.

Doc doesn't make a lot of typos, does he? I make an absolute shit ton of typos, I just keep going back to fix them as I go. Doesn't help that my L & P keys have both lost their covers indicating the letter and they now stick. (the kid spilled a fizzy drink on my keyboard a few months ago and it's been all downhill from there) When typing I'll often either not have a P or an L show up at all, or I'll get two of them in a row. So I've gotten used to having to go back quite frequently to either insert or remove one. And after I've submitted my rantings if I see a typo that I missed I have to edit the post to fix it. I'll sometimes have to edit one of my lengthier posts 5 or more times just fixing typos as I see them. I even fix other people's typos when I quote them. I'm like that with texts as well, I have to get all the typos out and fix the punctuation. I hate when one gets by me because there's no way to edit a text once it's been sent. Funny that I never learned to properly type because my wife used to touch type with blazing speed. Well over 100 wpm without looking down at her fingers. That had been her career in NZ typing up reports for engineers all day, she had to keep up a certain pace and she was good at it. I know where all the letters are by now, I can type pretty fast for someone just using two or three fingers. But I could never type the way you're supposed to type, it feels too unnatural that way. I actually took typing class in Jr High when I was 13, and eventually I managed to pass the final exam at the required minimum of 40 wpm, but that was 40 years ago and the last time I tried to type the proper way.

I've already rage quit twice today, don't make me do it again.

If they aren't typos he makes then he's got a language all of his own. I suspect he's in a hurry to type his insult, I mean comment, and then get off line because the ol' ball and chain stands behind him with a whip and makes sure he doesn't go over his 15 minutes a day of internet time.

My typing is fucking atrocious before I post. Some times it's bad after I post but I do know how to edit. I blame it on the keys moving while I'm not looking. I also have a sticky t key which often inserts more t's than are needed. When I write stories the spelling is not so bad but I think I type a bit slower then.

Those aren't typos, he just tries to spell his special Docarooni vernacular (seems to be his own proprietary mixture of arcane British and Aussie slang) as it really sounds. I assume he does this for the benefit of those of us who can't hear him.

OK.

Now you old farts have got all that off your chests I shall enlighten you. Goanna is simple rhyming slang - it's a pianer, a pianoforte. Orca knew this once but he has been keeping company with mainly goats for too long and forgot.

I do labour in the garden, and I interact with people, including Mrs Thatguy. I spend a good deal of time contemplating nothing in particular.

CRUCIAMENTUM - Obsidian Refractions. Straight up and down.

AFTERBIRTH - In But Not Of.

NP - TANGERINE DREAM - Nightshift Mix. A good accompaniment to contemplating nothing in particular.

The gimp mask, ball gag and leather play suit only come out during weekend gardening events.

They are indeed 3 brothers.

They are now aged 24, 19 and 16. I think he's the youngest drummer of the three.

They released their second album last year, Nonetheless, and I think they're here to stay. The band formed in 2012, so I'll leave it to you to work out how old they were then 😅

My goodness, I had no idea!  They would most likely have been 13, 8 and 5 at that time.  Unreal!

Rhyming slang. Easily the stupidest thing ever to come out of Australia. Or did your mob steal that from the Poms too like they did with almost everything else?

Reminds me of the time I asked our friend Carlissimo what 'down to the rubbery dub' meant after listening the the Cosmic Psychos Nice Day to Go to the Pub. Aussie rhyming slang he said, rubbery dub = pub. Whole thing's a load of bollocks if ya ask me. Just say the fucking word you mean! Especially in this case since goanna and pianoforte don't even rhyme to begin with. And wtf's a pianoforte? Is that like a really loud piano? Or is that just simple rhyming slang for something else entirely?

The only thing more exciting than that getup is the prospect of wearing it to a Bruce Dickinson show. So thrilling.

So what do you do if Bruce sees you in your ridiculous getup, slaps you on the ass and says he wants you to come be his special VIP guest backstage after the show? (wink*wink*) Do you wait to see what kind of shenanigans he has in mind? Or do you run towards the exit in a full sprint before the song they're playing has ended?

Well, I'll put it this way, I certainly can't think of any other reason to go to a Bruce Dickinson show.

If it were my forum, (and I'm aware that it's not) any mention of Ivar Bjørnson, or Enslaved, or even Borknagar would garner an automatic one week suspension. Second offense gets you a 30 day suspension, three strikes you're banned for life.

He was rage quitting anyway. Unfortunate situation all the way around when a daily posting forum regular incurs the wrath of the ban hammer. I've had dozens of battles with Deadly-do-Right over the last 8 years, some of the shit he says and positions he takes can frustrate me to no end. And yet on some level I like the dude, consider him a friend. Wish I had his email or phone number to keep in touch. Too late to get it now I guess. But realistically I probably wouldn't have bothered keeping in touch with him anyway.

Seems we've lost Serpico and his daily bad album covers now too, which is a real shame. And my boy Zach hasn't posted here since last February. Definitely should have gotten his details when I had the chance. Hungarino's been pretty scarce of late. Navy steps away from the forum for months at a time. It's not easy keeping a forum together. TB Suzuki enthusiast joined up and was posting hot and heavy for a week or two, then he went quiet. My Finnish Cum Blaster scrobbling buddy from last summer must've been less than enthused over the board's overall lame taste in music (except for my filthy kvlt aesthetic of course) and he lost interest and wandered away. And whatever happened to Sweets? He just vanished into thin air one day last year too. And then of course there's the Orca. Just our luck, him we can't get rid of, eh Doc?

Yeah, it is hard keep a good crew going. We had our fun back at M-F and saw loads of people come and go. Who knows why, exactly? I was all over the boards at one time and then lost some enthusiasm....other interests...life. I think I thought the big releases were higher quality. There were developments I found exciting and then some of the sub genres played out for me and got stale.

The desire to connect with random strangers who then become online friends and the unwavering focus you have...you're a unique personality suited for the long haul. I really come to get recos and keep my foot in the community but my extra curriculars take precedent. I don't have the relentless interest in the constant hunt for music. And I get weary of the daily banter that seems to fascinate some of you. The chit chat.  It reminds me of a quote from A Merchant of Venice...I had to look it up as I couldn't place it. I played a comic character named Gratiano in Merchant in a college Shakespeare troupe over 30 years ago Another character (Antonio I think) describes the character I played, Gratiano saying, Gratiano speaks an infinite deal of nothing, more than any man in all Venice. His reasons are as two grains of wheat hid in two bushels of chaff: you shall seek all day ere you find them, and when you have them, they are not worth the search.

I used to spend a lot of time putting together my gear and that was an interest. M-F at the beginning was the right group of nerds who came together over sound and interest in heavy music. At one time, I had a group of guys with more cross over in taste that were fun to shoot the shit with. And, then some of the more eccentric jerk offs got irritating.

It's not easy finding like minded music fans you connect with that aren't dicks. I've had a good time here. The winter is a good time for me to hole up with new music and get through the dark months. I find myself this time of year with a stack of downloads and CDs and it's fun when I have more new music than I can realistically absorb while still listening to new stuff. I'm trying to listen to my new albums in my "listening room" in stereo something I don't do for long stretches of time. A lot of it sounds amazing.  I'll try to follow some new releases for a while and then get bored with the grind of new releases in the Spring and probably fade for a while. Or, who knows, maybe I'll keep up more in '24.

The community is always evolving here, so much has changed in the decade I’ve been around. Still I like to think I’ve made a handful of friends around here over the years.

Oh, mate, you've got everything so wrong. Yep, we derived rhyming slang from the Poms - you stole their language too so don't whine - but we evolved it. Rhyming slang was initially an argot used by the criminal class to keep the straight people out of the loop, but now it's just for fun.

And it's a 'rubbidy dub', not whatever you said, and it's always just the rubbidy. And goanna does rhyme with pianer! It does when we say it anyway. Pianoforte is the proper but rarely used name of the instrument commonly known as a piano.

And Enslaved, baby.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
