Heaving Earth - Darkness Of God
...man, this is really fucking good. At least for me, and maybe Thatguy would dig it too. Some ambitious guitar interplay in spots. Super duper.

Gevurah - Gehinnom (Black Metal, Canada)
One of the better Quebecios black metal bands (and there are many of them). Super stoked for this one. These guys haven't released anything other than great material. Releases Oct 14.

I had never heard of the band before and when the new one came and with the hyped messages all over the place I got on with it and tried them out. So glad I did. I like all they released.

Seeing Fides Inversa coming week when they support Akhlys and Chaos Invocation. 3 bands that I started to appreciate a lot so looking forward to that show!

Negative Plane - Stained Glass Revelations
These guys have been steadily climbing the ranks of my favourite bands this past year.

Am very busy with work recently and usually I try to listen Bandcamp releases in the meantime to help focusing when I can. This release is on quite a few times now and really appreciate it. Even the I guess you'd call it atmospheric parts on it.

Carcass was great as expected. Played something from each album.
Mayhem was also great.
Emperor was fucking fantastic although they had a fill in for Samoth due to visa issues. Something from every album and the EP. Pleasant surprise as it was a much different set than the last 2 times I saw them.

I think you and I are the only ones here who appreciate these guys. I enjoyed this album and since I'm about to head out for a run, I think I will re-visit it now.

Hey guys - have been a while.
Listening Allegaeon - Damnum again and I am amazed with the album. I really like it so much more than I should. All the dramatic clean singing and clean melodic musical parts should have me running right away but somehow they counterbalance amazingly well with the real harsh and fast death metal.

Technical Death Metal. New album Colossus drops on unique leader in a few months. Here is a song off the last album.

Panzerfaust - The Suns of Perdition, Chapter III: The Astral Drain (Black Metal, Canada)

Instant pre-order for me. Their last album was my AOTY for 2020 and the one before that was in my top 3 in 2019 so....... needless to say I'm head over heels excited for this one!

Yeah you would have. Somehow we dragged our asses down there for them and Necfrofier and it was totally worth it, even though the time slot sucked balls.
Sedimentum is finally dropping a full length "Suppuration Morphogénésiaque"

Nice, TOR is not very known but is consistently bringing great releases to us. The one you mentioned is a good example.

JohanV gave a Damn to Sheol in What's on your mind?
Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder commited suicide yesterday. He was 41.
I never liked or listened to TBDM but Trevor always seemed like a genuinely enthusiastic and passionate metal head with his fingers deep into the extreme underground. I'd see him pop up all over social media in comments sections for bands, labels etc. The outpouring of support and love from bands and fans really says a lot. Incredibly sad.

Yesterday's BC Friday haul. As usual these are the ones Amazon Music Unlimited doesn't have or other little gems.
Claustrophobic Dysentery by CABINET. Tons of bands try to sound heavy and disgusting, so much that its formulaic. These guys actually surprised me when I heard their last one. NYP.
Ira Et Exilium Fraternitas by Ancestral Domains. Surprising these guys are from Mexico - this reminds me of pagan UK black metal.
THROUGH CAVERNS by SHROUDED INFINITY. Filthy rumbling Death Doom.
Allegiance to the Myth by Serpentshrine. These 2nd wavers have stepped up their sinister game for this second album. Icy jagged raw black. Surprisingly skilled production.
Vecio Sepulchral by Encirclement. Fuzzed out goat death doom.
VATICINAL RITES - S/T. Interesting mix of death, a little tech and prog. Riffs and cool phrases and changes abound.
Gnosis of the Wicked by Cult of Extinction. Abide the goat.
Abomination of the Flames by BEYOND MORTAL DREAMS. Still digesting this. Not my favorite of theirs off the bat, but I love the band.
Bloodrain - Bloodrain VI: Resurgam. Thrash!
Towards Extinction by Spectral Souls. Maybe not the 'best' but probably my favorite of the year so far. Its all over the place and brimming with aggression and metal exuberance. Fun from start to finish.
Infernus by Neter. Highly skilled death metal from Spain. A NYP gem from Satanath records.
Tales From the Northern Vastlands by Primordial Serpent. All this Canadian does is chew bubblegum and crank out sick cvlt black metal releases. And he's still out of bubblegum.

Demoniac - So It Goes (2021)
A recommendation from another forumite elsewhere on the web. Technical Chilean thrash metal that for some reason feels the need to blight itself with the inclusion of a saxophone. Those wacky, jazzy Chileans eh?
When they are not fucking around with wind instruments they do have technical prowess and a level of primitive intensity to match. I am not as sold on it as my contemporary is but it does have some merits.

Just can't stop coming back to this one...
Udegste - Zwartmagische Brouwsels, Netherlands
Celebratum - Kollektiv Sinnssykdom, Norway
April already in another day or two, 3 months of this new year gone by the wayside already. I have just recently passed the 25 new 2022 releases mark, with Bandcamp Friday looming this week and me with 10 things in my cart. So I guess it's about time I sat down, collected my thoughts and made a short list of what my favorite releases of this year have been so far. Not gonna be easy because there are not one or two real standouts for me this year, just a bunch of really good stuff that all feels like it's about the same level of quality.

Downcross - Hexapoda Triumph (Black Metal, Belarus)
Fourth album in three years from these guys. Pretty consistent band in terms of quality, but I've always put them in the "pretty good, but not great" category. That might change with this new full length though, this is very impressive and certainly the best thing they've done thus far.
