What's on your mind?

Re: What's on your mind? The worst part about that is that in Utah, there are a number of steep, winding roads, especially near the mountains, that bikers choose to ride on. They can't ride on the sidewalk, so when riding in the street going so much slower than the rest of traffic, they get hit frequently by cars coming around bends that they can't see far ahead on. I've seen tons of bike riders hit in Parley's Canyon, one of which was lying on the side of the road with his legs bent completely backwards (his heels next to his eyes). We have a couple of roads like that here as well but they all have bike lanes and a pretty cool timing setup so you know what time you climbed the hill and how it compares to other riders. Unfortunately for me it doesn't recognise the difference between single and tandem bikes so I can't really compare my times to those of the other people I ride with.

I love my kid. I love him far more than I love my only decent recording headphones. So it's ok that he spilled the miso soup all over himself and it soaked through the seat and drenched my headphones. It's ok. Really. :(
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh no, that's bad :o good thing you love that kid :) Think it's time for me to have a new Avatar :D

Well in answering that question FA I'll be beyond broke if I see them (and have the shame of looking like a total poser for knowing the bands but not owning any of their stuff) and, because I don't own any of their stuff, if I don't see them it won't be quite as disappointing as if I were a huge fan of both bands. They're touring seperately as well so it would be a choice of one or the other not both. I don't get how the fuck they can both play in Perth but not Adelaide. Adelaide is way bigger then Perth (but still insignificantly small Australia only has one city that actually qualifies as a city and not just a really big town and that's Sydney)

Re: What's on your mind?

Yep $80' date='000 truck here I come haha :) No I'm working for Central Refrigerated Services, I'm part of the Reefer Units :) hahaha. My first ear is gonna suck a bit but after that I can make up to $80,000 a year and when I lease my own truck and become a owner/operator I can make up to 200k a year.[/quote'] My mom is the western region finance manager at Kenworth, if you have good credit, I can see if she can get you a good rate. Assuming you wanted a Kenworth or a used truck on their lot, that is. I don't know much about Central Refrigerated, as far as reputation goes, we just deliver their copy paper. We just do local delivery, so most of what I know of big rig trucking is from my mom and the carriers that deliver to us. Oh, and hopefully you'll still be in town on the 19th, Watain will be playing with In Solitude and Tribulation. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2

Esoteric put on a great show, Velnias put on their usual sloppy but decent show and Saturnelia Temple sucked donkey balls. That band sucks. They're not even metal they're just stoner rock. They played four songs with one riff per-song. It was like watching the cantina band from the Family Guy Star Wars spoof "Play that same song again." One riff, three positions all played in painful repetition. I almost fell asleep. I've never been so bored at show in my life and once had to sit through trivial. I never thought I'd see Esoteric live so it was an extra treat. This week it's Helloween, another band I never thought I'd see live.

Looks like I'm gonna see Melt Banana in November and possibly Obituary this coming month. Never have seen Obituary, though I've been into them since Cause Of Death - which I still think is their best album. I know one of the bands that's opening for them. Should be a good time. And I just found out that a band I knew a few years ago, called Pyrrhon, got signed to Relapse recently! I didn't even know they were still around. Things are happening all around me!

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
