FatherAlabaster
Now, on the other hand, the first metal I heard without melodic vocals was Mortification, when I was maybe eleven, and I think they put me off harsher metal for a year or two.

forge
I remember my friend sneaked a tape player into grade school and he played 'Paranoid.' Kaboom! My eyes just opened.
Idlewilde
oh that's a difficult one. I thiiink it was Black Sabbath as well.
BlackFuckingMetal666
Well for me it was Domination by Pantera.
RelentlessOblivion
I heard Pantera, Iron Maiden, Metallica and a couple of other bands through my cousin all at the same time. Got into the music and then next time we caught up it was Death, Meshuggah, Venom, Celtic Frost and Cradle Of Filth. Other then Meshuggah I still listen to all the bands he showed me but of course I've added a shitload of others.
Scullicon
Don't consider AC/DC Metal really so it was probably Wasp or something. Scorpions aren't really metal either? I dont remember. Most of the ''metal'' I got hold of was my fathers and most of it was from the late 80's. Appetite for Destruction, Girls Girls Girls and that type of albums.
Spooks
Iron Maiden way back in the 80's when I was about 6 years old as my dad is a heavy metal fan, so pretty much grew up with it
NTNR
I don't really know. My earliest memories of music are a blur of 80's MTV ala Poison, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Ratt, etc... I honestly don't know. More consciously towards my teen years I'd probably say either Metallica or White Zombie.
Artemisia
I was given a mixed CD of Killswitch Engage, System of a Down, Slipknot, Korn, Cradle of Filth and Metallica in high school. I wish I still had that CD, if only for the nostalgia. Played it to death. So yeah those were pretty much the bands I cut my teeth on.

JBaker
The band that got me into Metal- Black Sabbath when I was about 8, with a Greatest Hits album. The song that got me interested in purchasing Heavy Rock/Metal albums in the first place, however, was Ace of Spades by Motorhead; which I heard on the soundtrack to Tony Hawks: Pro Skater 3. Then Sepultura got me into Extreme Metal with Roots after I'd been into a lot of Nu Metal and Grunge.
RelentlessOblivion
so far as extreme metal goes Cradle Of Filth did it for me (the first time around) then I lost interest in black and death metal. My interest was re-ignited through a couple of bands actually a combination of Arch Enemy, Death, Celtic Frost and Nevertanezra made me want to start exploring death, black and doom metal now I can't get enough of those genres (especially doom).

ThunderGod
Iron Maiden's Somewhere In Time. The first one I bought was also a Maiden album: Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son.
Snake Eyes
Slayer-Seasons of the Abyss can remember being a kid and my Dad was very religious and forbade me from listening to metal. I would hang at a friends house and smoke cigarettes and bang our heads to this album. Great memories Sent from my BNTV600 using Tapatalk 4

Ghouly
It's been so long I wish I could even remember. My first forays into metal were Headbanger's Ball on MTV with Ricky Rachman. I used to ask to stay over my grandparent's place for the weekend because they had cable TV and I wanted to watch it down in the basement, where they wouldn't know what I was watching. orcslayr23
Dragonforce was the first metal band I ever got into. I don't really care about them anymore, but it's very possible that I wouldn't have ever gotten into metal without them. I remember looking at the cover of some rock and metal magazine at a grocery store back in the summer of 2006 and I saw the name "dragonforce", which I thought sounded cool at the time. Checked them out when I got home and it blew my mind.

Still love them both to this day.
RelentlessOblivion
Napalm Death annoy me. Their music really does just sound like a wall of noise at least to my ears.

Their music really does just sound like a wall of noise at least to my ears. You should try out some of their newer efforts with better production, they're much easier to decipher. Grindcore isn't for everybody, but an affinity for death and thrash metal usually helps. Sent from my HTC PH39100 using Tapatalk 2
RelentlessOblivion
I'll give them a second chance but like sludge I think grindcore is going to largely be beyond my tastes.
deathstorm
My sister got me into metal I was like 3 or 4 watching iron maiden videos on MTV. Back in 1980
