  1. I think one of the reasons extreme metal will stick around for a long time is that it has proven to be very malleable. It can be co-opted by other genres, but it is almost inevitable that metal will incorporate other genres and influences and thus keep being "relevant" and attract new listeners. Just look at the influences from industrial, rap, shoegaze, hardcore, posthardcore, EDM and jazz. Does this mean everyone will like it? No, but keeping the genre semi-relevant will bring in new blood that will have the curiosity to dig back and fall in love with old farts like Morbid Angel, Darkthrone and whatever counts as a seminal band in 20 years. The mainstream metal feeds the extreme underground, and vice versa in a continous loop. Always has and always will. As for tourists being the proverbial locustswarm that ruins the genre before moving on, I do think that there will always be die-hard underground maniacs that are inspired by older acts, and continue make new "old" extreme metal. Just look at all the new BM and death acts of the past 5-8-ish years. They were all born after Morbid Angel shit the bed and Behemoth became a joke, but they still seek out second wave obscure Norwegians as inspiration, for example.
  2. You're an adult. I think at some point you have to decide where the line goes for you. Family disliking or disapproving of your choices can take different expressions and it's up to you to feel if they cross a line. While it may be lonely, sometimes your mental health will benefit from having reduced or no contact with your parents. Or you can talk it out. But the main issue, as others have pointed out, is probably that they don't understand your reasons, nor the way you express it. You can explain it, BUT it's up to them to be open to try to understand you. A person can only do so much if the other party is not willing to cooperate and do their part of the leg-work.

  5. I'm guessing much has to do with numbers. When there's a small circle of extremists views tend to homogenize, but as fame and notoreity increases the number of people in the scene there's an influx of different, less extreme views. Is this bad? Depends. Is it inevitble? Yes. My guess is that every movement 5-8 years removed from it's starting point will start to bitch about "the good old days", no matter the topic.
  6. You can have Skåne, they're worthless anyway.
  7. That was fucking awful. Never been a fan, but this was really bad.
  8. Yeah, that's how I feel too. They were yet to master the art of stringing riffs and sections into actual songs. At least on a consistant basis
  9. Although the album isn't out yet, but given his previous output and style, I think Erik Grönwall will turn out to be the best replacement for Sebastian Bach that Skid Row has ever had (not saying much, I know). The guy that sings for Accept has a very good voice, and to me he sounds more enjoyable and versatile than Udo.
  10. Decameron - My Shadow - Yay or Nay? Released 1996 Decameron was always in the B- or C-league of Swedish Melodic Black metal. Despite this they were far from bad, and I think My Shadow has some really neat songs/riffs, even though their lack of experience shows in the compositional elements.
  11. DADA BOTS already did that. They sampled Meshuggah and ran it through a AI algorithm. It's not indistinguishable from the real thing but given that this i 5 years old....🤷‍♂️
  12. I reckon that controling impluses and using reason are good things to exercise, preferbly coupled with empathy. delayed gratification is 100% under-appreciated in this day and age.
  13. I usually have music on at work, mostly metal, but when I have to really focus (like writing texts or emails) I need something with as little lyrics as possible, so then I usually switch to dungeon synth or ambient soundscapes like Lustmord. Or Pink Floyd, I almost always drift back to Pink Floyd for some reason.

  15. John Zorn's Dreamers (as Electric Masada) - Marciac 2010 Track 4 Karaim Dipping my toes into John Zorn again, first thing I've listened to by him since Naked City many moons ago. Nope, still too selfindulgant and atonal for me. Parts of it sounds like what people who hate free jazz think free jazz sounds like. If that makes sense. BLACKBRAID live in Long Beach- The River of Time Flows Through Me. Ah, that's better.
  16. If you'd like to that'd be lovely. Sounds like I'd enjoy both the loud and abrasive and (maybe) the soft stuff. I def. enjoy weird. And Jarboe.
  17. Does he refer to the first Swans albums or any particular period? I've only really heard The Seer and the one after that and they were both excellent and oppressive Today is the day after the Swedish elections and it seems that the right wing bloc will get (a very fucking narrow) majority. 175 seats compared to 174 for the center-left. So it's a sad day for the country today, since the right wing block are dominated by the ex-neo-nazi party Swedish Democrats (they are now the second largest party after the Social Democrats!), and they will guaranteed want minister posts. So today I'm blasting some fast as fuck crustpunk. Massgrav - Slowly we rock
  18. Eh, snooker would like to have a word. Then again, that's boring as shit so there's that.... Also, I couldn't imagine a more boring way to spend a minute of my life than watching sports. Viagra Boys - Sports

  20. Well, Europe didn't happen. Wife and daughter caught a nasty cold that lasted way longer than expected. A real shame, but hopefully they'll come around next year when they have a new album out.
  21. I'm thinking of what a complete dickbag Scott Kelly is. If you've missed it, here's his statement from last week And here are his former bandmates in Neurosis:
  22. Wait, you're 48? I thought you were younger than me (below 40)?
  23. Yeah I think that's the sensible route, Out of this world leans in to the sugery pop-ambitions of the Final Countdown, but it's not a bad record, just not everyone's tastes. Same with Prisoners in Paradise.
