  1. On that topic... Using AI to Re-Create Iconic Album Art
  2. Well, Europe didn't happen. Wife and daughter caught a nasty cold that lasted way longer than expected. A real shame, but hopefully they'll come around next year when they have a new album out.
  3. I'm thinking of what a complete dickbag Scott Kelly is. If you've missed it, here's his statement from last week And here are his former bandmates in Neurosis:
  4. Wait, you're 48? I thought you were younger than me (below 40)?
  5. Yeah I think that's the sensible route, Out of this world leans in to the sugery pop-ambitions of the Final Countdown, but it's not a bad record, just not everyone's tastes. Same with Prisoners in Paradise.
  6. Glad to hear LLNN was heavy, that's the main appeal of them for me on record. Just a massive heft without being boring like sludge or doom can be. I can understand The Ocean being so meticulous, they have a lot of stuff going on and they probably save a ton of money not having to lugg around amps and pedalboards on tour.
  7. It's a cliche, but metal concerts are generally quite safe, often more so than pop, EDM and rap gigs. Less inconsiderate douchbags (unless you go to dingy black metal gigs in basements, then YMMV haha). If someone falls, you always get picked up, you absolutely don't have to mosh or headbang or be in the pit, it's cool to just hang out in the back or sides. If you go up front you might get someone falling into you or such but it's almost never with intent or maliciousness. If you feel comfortable, take the chance, it's a truly lifechanging experience to scream along with hundreds of metal fans to your favourite music.
  8. I think they had a huge influence mainly in Europe (hah) and Japan, mostly with their early albums. I think they never had time to really break in USA before Grunge hit. Prisoners in Paradise came out in 1991 and pretty much died on sight. The first three albums are great, filled with youthful enthusiasm and you can tell that Joey had talent both as songwriter and singer. The biggest hits from that era is def. Seven Doors Hotel and Scream of Anger (both fantastic songs). Europe - Seven doors hotel Europe - Scream of anger After their reunion they went in a more bluesy rock path, similar to Deep Purple and Rainbow. I personally think this suit fits them very well. Europe - War of kings Europe - Days of Rock n Roll Europe - GTO
  9. I'm taking the family to see Europe this weekend. First time seeing them for both me and the wife and the first proper concert ever for my 11 y/o. Only cloud on the horizion is that both of them came down with a cold over the weekend, hopefully it's gone by saturday. I checked the set list of their last headline show and it looked pretty great. Lots of 80's hits but also many great songs from their later, (blues) rock n roll phase.
  10. I think the melodies are kept at a perfect amount as not to be overpowering, and I think he's got a good voice. Parts of it remind me of Necrophobic and and Naglfar in just how slick and well-constructed it is.
  11. BlackBraid - Blackbraid I Full album stream out now, and it sounds just as good as anticipated! Melodic black metal with great feeling.
  12. Haha yeah, and just like in all aspects of life there's a sub-section of people who actively don't want women to enter, inhabit or flourish in "their" spaces. And they would much rather remain willfully ignorant and pretend women can't play guitars or scream, than acknowledge that their "boys club" is as diminishing as their hairline.
  13. These people have obviously never experienced the magnificense that is The Great Kat. The Great Kat - Flight of the bumblebee
  14. AtomA - Divina Hi guys, I took a break from the forum (and largely the internet) during the summer. Felt great but fuck did I miss a lot of releases! Back at the office (new job) so now I can crank the metal during office hours again 😀 Did I miss anything?
  15. did you just a) blame Ukraine for Russia destroying the country? and b) engage in a big ol' whataboutism? The ethnic or genetic or religious makeup of Ukraine is totally beside the point. Last I check Ukraine was, like it or not, a sovereign state with an elected government and a accepted country of the UN. That makes them a country. And any other country do not have to right to roll right in and declare them non-worthy of exisitng.
  16. Correct me if I'm wrong but there's little evidence so far that Russia didn't intend to reduce Ukraine to rubble anyway. It's the same kind of terror-tactics they've employed in Georgia, Chechnya etc. Their stated goal has been to eradicate Ukraine as a country and culture. I think that if the Ukrainian army decided to take the battle to the fields, Russia would shell the cities anyway because it would cause the most damage.
  17. Wasn't it also a band that a one-hit wonder with "Alice, what's the matter"? Oh god, this was worse than I remembered. Very 90s indie rock.
  18. That's not true. From what I head they died from excessive wanking, the bloodloss was just too immense. I remember when Vanessa Warwick visited the band in the studio before the release of MTC and they played that riff of Ten Ton Hammer. Good god, that was heavy Think this is it. Machine Head Headbangers Ball 97 Wonder what happened to Vanessa?

    Tool- AEnima

I think this is where Tool peaked. Lateralus and 10 000 days have some good songs but no album of theirs work as well as a cohesive unit. I also feel that this album is where they managed to balance their worst impulses (overly wanky sections, childish humor (Hooker, Die eier von Satan), meandering interludes) with actual, solid songwriting with a beginning, middle and end. Bonus trivia: Check out this Swedish rapper and see if you recognize the sample 😉 Thomas Rusiak - Breakout
  20. Ah yeah, I remember hearing this band before. Enjoyable, but nothing I'll spend my money on.
  21. I actually bought the first BCC album blindly when it came out because I liked a song they had on a CD sampler (remember those?). I think it might've been Mercy Ltd. They were probably strongly influenced by Type O and goth rock(abilly) like Tiger Army I think.
  22. Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder commited suicide yesterday. He was 41. I never liked or listened to TBDM but Trevor always seemed like a genuinely enthusiastic and passionate metal head with his fingers deep into the extreme underground. I'd see him pop up all over social media in comments sections for bands, labels etc. The outpouring of support and love from bands and fans really says a lot. Incredibly sad.
  23. I'm not, but I wouldn't pass for white either. And USA police system seems way to random and unsafe for anyone not white and an American citizen.
  24. Given the road that USA politics has taken in the past 30 years I don't see myself ever moving there, nor recommend anyone I know to do so. It seems so incredibly capricious with all the healthcare, childcare, wages, vacations, guns and religion. Even if I'd be given like a 2 year research grant it seems like so much could go wrong in that short time. Hell, I'd think twice even going as a tourist. I'd be worried that some cop would pull me over and shoot me on "probable cause" or some shit.
  25. Research shows that the vaccine looses up to (I think) 40% effectiveness against Omicron after only 6 months so I REALLY suggest you get a booster before MDF. After a year you're pretty much unvaccinated again. I don't know about Omicron, but the previous strain had an incubation time of 2-10 days before you develop symptoms. I'm guessing Omicron is faster. But you can still be asymptomatic and spread it to others. Another reason why everyone should get booster shots regularly. As far as Roe vs Wade, I think it's incredible how USA just continues to shit the bed over and over thanks to the Republican Illuminati of Lindsey Graham, McConnell, etc. I do think that if this passes, the same-sex marriage and sodomy laws are next. Then what, interracial marriage? Handmaid's Tale are starting to look less and less like fiction.
