  1. The new Alkaloid sounds superfuckingboring. Werid and proggy but in all the wrong ways. Like trying to open up a planetary gate but the translation is all wrong and the book upside down. Alkaloid - Numen Blut aus Nord - Disharmonium: Nahab Much more what I'd assume a jaunt through otherwordly, eldritch worlds would sound like. Funny, this is good but I can't really call it an enjoyable listen. It's way too disturbing for that.
  2. Whie it gets thrown around quite carelessly, there is merit to the concept of introvert and extrovert personality types. It's not a binary state of course, introverts can absolutely enjoy and pursue social settings and vice versa, but the whole feeding on others energy you talk about is a good example. If you gain energy from social interactions you won't reach the bottom of the barrell so to speak. While if it effectively drains you, you will be able to expend your energy but sooner or later you'll need time to recouperate and recharge because you don't get the recharge from others. There's nothing wrong with this, neither you or your relatives are flawed, you're just built different and in the best of worlds you can find situations were all your needs are balanced. Like for example as you said, seeing each other more often but for shorter times.
  3. Back when Relapse was mostly a grindcore/death metal label I could pick up almost anything blind and it would be at least a 3/5. Not so much now a days. I think some labels that I almost always trust to at least be interesting is Debemur Morti, 20 Buck Spin, Deathprayer, I, Voidhanger, Norma Evangelium Diaboli and Sentient Ruin.
  4. A friend was selling parts of his vinyl collection so I snagged: Avatarium - "s/t" Dimension zero - "Silent Night Fever" Pic-LP Extreme - "III" In Flames - "Lunar strain" 2-LP All for €100.
  5. I was not 100% sold on the initial tracks but the full-length is really quite cool!
  6. That band will forever be called Un toothers in my mind.
  7. I found that the main problem with Beyond Meat and similar brands is that they are way too salt. But that goes for most fast food mince meat burgers as well. But the BM taste is great IMO, it's usually my patty of choice when availble. Less risk of food poisining too
  8. Celtic Frost - Monotheist Accept - Blood of the nations Gorefest - La Muerte Honorble mention: Dissection - Fallen Angel's Dominion (but they changed their name to Thulcandra for that one)
  9. I would love to see you nerds do 1 black metal album for every year from 1983 to 2023. Fuck knows I don't think I could do it...
  10. Pugh Rogefeldt passed away yesterday. He was credited with releasing the very first rock album (Ja dä ä dä) in Swedish back in 1969. He's also erroneously credited as being Quorthon in the infamously awful book Lords of Chaos. I've never listened to him, so I pulled up the debut album in question and... yeah, not my cup of tea. But I def. hear his influence on later eras of Swedish music, both the 70's Progg rock, hippie-folk and then Swedish pop/rock of the 80-90's. Pugh Rogefeldt - Här kommer natten
  11. Just discovered this Mexican (aggrotech?) band. Reminiscent of FLA, Nitzer Ebb and Skinny Puppy, with some nice Samael vibes. EGGVN - La Era de la Bestia
  12. You amy have mentioned this before, but which ReLoad songs did you enjoy? I remember Devils's Dance being particularily interesting when I was a wee lad scouring the internet for song snippets played live. I think... Carpe diem baby and Where the wild things are, were the other two that stood out. Never liked Fuel or Memory... In Metallica and Iron Maiden's case, this is exactly the problem. They stretch out ideas (even the good ones), for way too long so they loose their punch.
  13. Well I assume you've talked to them, and I'm not sure what "get through to them" means but if you don't click there's not much you can do. Usually, if you share music interests it helps since there's common ground.
  14. Ok, so I'm not gonna read all 5 pages of this since I last visited the site, but from what I skim-read. GG is not qualified to talk about the quality of post-TBA Metallica if he hasn't actually heard them, that's just silly. Waht constitutes "good songwriting" is obviously very arbitrary; I think TBA has a number of really good songs. Roam, The God that failed nails the midtempo rock swagger that Load had trouble with, Of wolf and man are fantastic, Don't tread on me has a great twin-melody in the intro, My friend of misery is also great. So obviously YMMV. I think 72 Seasons are pretty good, compared to post-ReLoad albums, but as many have said, too long and unedited. But the main redeeming factor for me is that my daughter has really latched on to it and this weekend we'll go to the record shop so she can buy her first very own CD to play in the car. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be her gateway band into heavier stuff, and I couldn't be happier.
  15. Lol, I knew you'd hate it. Ah well. And stop fucking using my name you silly illiterate old goat! There's a reason I changed my username when we came here.
  16. Thank you for that extensive writeup Mark, always a good time reading your thoughtful musings. I confess I've never listened to Boris. Granted, I'm not a huge drone doom guy, it has to be really good to hold my attention longer than 4 minutes.
  17. This is the first album with a new singer. I really like it, it's like a mix between classical heavy metal vocals and doomy prog metal. Supposedly the early albums are cult classics. In the Woods - Heart of the ages. I've been hooked on this british pop singer. She's got a nice voice and some fun stuff going on musically. Very touching lyrics as well. If only this song had been sent to ESC England would've done really well. Rina Sawayama - Hold the Girl
  18. Apparently the guy is also a sexist, harassing, stalkerish creep, but hey you can't win em all....🙃 The song is a reworking of an older, instrumental song. So it's just like a one-off single. 19. I think Inanna was a ancient goddess, that later was reappropriated as Ishtar (who might be more wellknown. I've been listeing to this song 10-20 times since yesterday. Just can't get enough of it. I hope Forndom continues in this vein with a more "active" instrumentation and vocals. Even if you don't understand the lyrics, the music is spellbinding. Forndom - Och med vinden ack de gunga
  20. I have the clear with splatter versions and they're gorgeus and sound well. Still need to get the EP.
  21. “Many phenomena - wars, plagues, sudden audits - have been advanced as evidence for the hidden hand of Satan in the affairs of Man, but whenever students of demonology get together the M25 London orbital motorway is generally agreed to be among the top contenders for exhibit A.” ― Neil Gaiman, Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch I don't like driving, I do it because I have to but I don't enjoy it like some folks do. And the amount of driving you do in USA is nuts. Where 2.5 hrs drive single way for a gig is considered short. No thank you.
  22. Love this bass sound! Lunar Chamber - Spirit body and the seeing self For all 5 of us who loved and miss Lykathea Aflame.
  23. I for one think it's great that more people discover metal, Metallica, or just a new song they like. Why not? Master of Puppets are objectively a fantastic song and I'd much rather young people associate Metallica with that compared to Enter Sandman. Metal in general is not underground or obscure in 2023, hasn't been for 20 odd years as the metalhead teens of the 80's grew up and started buying $60 Motorhead rum and $120 VIP festival tickets. Wacken and Hellfest attract hundreds of thousands of people every year. Metal is not underground. There's subgenres that isn't widely known, but that's beside the point. And if there's one band to gatekeep, Metallica isn't one of them.
  24. The Nest - Her true nature I've never listened to Wolvennest before, but this is good shit! Крюкокрест - Ауфидерзейн The Pleskau Brethren circle can do no wrong.
  25. I think it's largely a matter of practice, I have kind of boney fingers so barrés are hard for me too, not enough flesh to dampen the strings. Having a low string height helps.
