  1. Stuart had a certain style and Paul did too. But with Gian, I could never really tell except in so far as him bringing more of a traditional black metal touch. According to Stuart, it turned out Gian was lazy and didn't contribute much, wasn't the most talented guy, and actually tried to take credit for songs he didn't write! Or something to that effect. I don't remember how it was said but something like that.
  2. I bet those LLN rarities don't even exist and probably have 100% ratings on metal-archives to add to their kvlt reputation. That's how I would play it. I would be the most kvlt black metal band of all time with the most revered reputation via fake online reviews for my sought-after so-called masterpieces, despite there being nothing real about any of it. On my promise of available cassette copies, black metal bedrooms would empty, trolls would emerge from under bridge, misanthropes uniting for the first time, and all for the quest of The Holy Grail of all things unholy!
  3. It truly is. I've always thought Stuart was great, and I often wondered what Gian added to the band besides the odd black metal riff and looking cool like Peewee Herman in that Buffy the Vampire Slayer film.
  4. Apparently editing posts is difficult, I'm unable to fix my post.
  5. I take it these are not your garden-variety gnomes? Pun on that one. Edit: double pun.

  7. I've only given it a couple of listens, and it could simply be a routine case of 'new album syndrome' but it hasn't quite won me over yet. It's a very good album, but it feels like something is missing. Its direction is refreshing in some ways, redolent of some of their earlier work yet not deviating too much from their familiar course. Excellent production indeed.
  8. I was fine with the Hellraiser-Scissorhands image, but there's no doubt that frilly puff will always prevail. Have you ever heard of a Australian podcast called Scars and Guitars? The guy who runs it did a great interview with CoF's brilliant former guitarist Stuart Anstis. Over the course of four hours they discussed many things including late 90s Cradle of Filth and the band drama therein. Defintely worth listening for all CoF diehards! If you get a chance to listen, it's podcast #155 on itunes or get it from their site: https://www.scarsandguitars.net/podcasts/
  9. Don't forget the complementary combo of moustache and mullet.
  10. Numinous clouds consumed the sky, pluvial communications fell to the earth coalescing with the telluric breath of psychic energy, and aroused from coffin drowse I rose to inhale the familiar petrichor!!

    Books?

Homophobia was as common as calling a bundle of sticks by its proper name back then. I don't think it really does much to call out a man for what nearly everyone was guilty of in that era.
  12. You mean regular LLN isn't obscure enough nor shoddy enough in recording quality to satisfy those kvlt cravings? You might as well dig through dumpsters and search out a bunch of poor quality demo tapes from random bedroom black metal bands. Then print off exceptionally poor quality LLN artwork from online sources for said tapes. Now you've got a match!
  13. Before Pete Burns was spinning people 'round he played in a Doorsy proto-goth band that released a couple of great songs, like this one:
  14. Wait, this happened in 2009? Dagon would probably argue that these kids have grown up by now. Terrible joke indeed. Metal is pretty tolerant about breaking social taboos, but that is a pretty disturbing one with no path to reconciliation. I don't think people should burn their CDs or anything if they like the music, but with a name like Inquisition I'd be ok with the guy getting burned at the stake. Isn't Maryland deathfest all ages? Good thing they got dropped. Is Dagon's real name Todd Nickerson? It is now.
  15. Naturally, I'm quite fond of their image, some exceptions of course. I can see how the band pop-cultured their image over time: from vampires to Hellraiser-Scissorhands and beyond! It probably started with a conversation between CoF Management and Dani, circa 1998: 'So Dani, you know those puffy, frilly shirts you're always sporting; you know, the kind every hackneyed vampire, pirate, and poet wears? Yeah, save for Halloween, those went out of vogue about two centuries ago... but I hear 80s fashion is making a bit of a comeback now that the 90s are nearing an end...'
  16. A misanthrope with an internet connection? I know we live in the digital age, but you can't tell me they've got cell reception and wifi in every forest. I don't know about the sex and occult connection. Sex has been practiced by everyone and their grandmother; ironically, the only exception being misanthropes.
  17. Nun-better than that album. Especially for those down under, just listen to A Skin For Dancing In and feel the winter through your robe. I bet it's even palatable for those who simply prefer a glass of goat's milk every now and again.
  18. Even if one has only heard a minuscule percentage it sometimes feels like 95% of metal released is entirely unremarkable, the number slowly increasing as years gather. I can certainly do a year-by-year run-through of my music collection and observe which years are feverishly well-blooded and which are anemic and devoid of substance. And the last decade or so has seen the scene suffer from a rust that is not the sanguine metal of iron of which I'm used to. Believe me, a vampire can tell the difference!
  19. Are you sure it was the music he liked? Providing alcohol for minors, rendezvous in vans... Count yourself lucky your boss wasn't Kevin Spacey! Oh, I'm only kidding. I'm sure it was fun.
  20. I couldn't have said it any better, and I listened to the new album in its entirety. Trust me, you're not missing anything. I really don't want to have to make a bad joke about Satyr's brain tumour. Frost, on the other hand, must be smoking something feral. Frost: "It's down to how the album sounds and feels, the vibe, the openness, the depth of it. There's something about the kind of power and conviction that emanates from that album. We feel and understand that this is one of those game-changing albums that will put such a strong mark on its genre and its time. It really marks a major change and something that cannot be ignored, something that is defining of a new feature and a new direction for this genre of music." Maybe he meant to say that it was one of those game over albums.
  21. Does she ever sound like Linda Blair! I can only envision your exorcism going the way of this:
  22. I like Astennu's solos on Dimmu Borgir's 'Spiritual Black Dimensions' and The Covenant's 'Nexus Polaris.'
  23. Haha. If you haven't died or gotten off that island after nearly ten years, you probably deserve a fate of listening to the same five albums for eternity!
