  1. Hello, I’m Luna! Im just your average desert dwelling, metal loving, horror addicted, beer swilling, no fucks giving, barely human lost soul. I don’t know how I found my way onto this forum, but here I am. The band I’m listening to at the moment is Wayfarer, the album American Gothic. It’s pretty fuckin cool! I don’t know what else to say, so yea… bye πŸ‘‹

  11. Good choice. 1st album I heard by them. Hooked me onto the band. I met Gene Hoglan a few years ago at a drum clinic and asked him about what it was like recording that album. From what I remember he said he flew to Norway and when he got there the drum set they had for him was such shit quality so he had to make a bunch of adjustments and get them to buy some extra pieces/equipment. Fav song Demoniacal Possession

  12. Luna is apparently the most common named given to cats. I know, because I share one with my wife. Welcome Luna, the (barely) human. American Gothic is pretty darned good.

  21. Greetings all, I just discovered this forum while doing some reading for an article I'm pitching to... whoever might want it, I guess... about metal culture, the inclusivity of the community, all the things that have made me love this music and the scene ever since I was a sad little 12 year old victim of the meanest, most merciless middle school girls that suburban Wisconsin had to offer in the early 2000's. I don't usually use so much alliteration, I've just been awake for a really long time because we're closing on our house in a few days and I'm taking a break from the chaos that is packing and cleaning at the same time with toddlers running around. All that aside, my parents were quite older compared to those of my peers, and I grew up listening to what they listened to which was of course Golden Oldies, all of the 50's and 60's, all day every day. I still love it, but it didn't do much to help me figure out "myself" when I was trying to "fit in" at a new school. I tried listening to what everyone else listened to on the radio or where have you, and I liked some of it but just didn't connect... until I heard some "heavier" stuff, that is, early Breaking Benjamin and Chevelle. I decided to change the "Music Choice" channel on my shitty bedroom TV to the metal station to find more "heavy" music, and turned my head when I heard Stabbing the Drama by Soilwork. Changed my whole entire life. I bought all six of their albums that had been released by that time (2005), and listened to every CD every day for weeks. It just worked for me, I guess. They were also my first concert, which I went to alone, just to discover a community of people sharing a mutual love of something with me who at the same time gave absolutely zero fucks about the nerdy little skinny teen girl with bad acne and a windbreaker. Everyone was so cool and warm, one guy helped me get up to the front of the stage so I was only feet away from the band as they performed. Man, what a core moment for me. Ever since, metal has been a fundamental part of my self concept and a crucial element to my day-to-day life. I grew away from listening to Soilwork, after their next couple albums didn't really go a direction that I enjoyed as much. That said, I'll always consider myself an early megafan, and credit them with my lifelong love of the music. These days I've been listening a lot to After the Burial, Fit For an Autopsy, Whitechapel, Meshuggah, other deathcore (I know) and progressive metal outfits. Next week we're moving back to the big city where we'd lived prior, so I'm looking forward to catching a lot more shows in Oklahoma City! That's all! Thanks for reading my sleep deprived rambling intro Oh! I'm also a writer, if anyone is interested in that. I know I said I was doing a freelance article but most of my "successful" work has been screenwriting horror shorts. I have seen close to 3000 movies in my lifetime (that I've logged, at least), and my goal is to direct one of my shorts within the next couple years!

  24. Down in One - "One for the Road" Pretty solid southern metal. KK's Priest - "Sermons of the Sinner" KK's Priest - "The Sinner Rides Again" So psyched KK put together this fantastic band! Judas Priest will always be my favorite traditional metal band of all time, but rather than wish KK was still with them, now we get two fantastic bands playing great metal. We all win!

  31. Welcome! That's one of the best - and most descriptive - introductions I've read in quite some time. That Wayfarer album is killer - I've played through it several times, and it's gotten better for me with each listen. Got any particular sub-genres that you're partial to?

  32. Megadeth - Endgame Testament - First Strike Still Deadly I hate the idea of bands re-recording old stuff, but I really liked this ever since it came out. There's still a certain magic to the old albums' original production. Both the originals and re-recordings sound great. Checked out: Pathology - Unholy Descent Sounds like tons of other bands that play the same riff: JUN-JUN-JUN-JUN-JUN-JUN- Whoooo (guitar squeal).... -JUN-JUN-JUN-JUN- Whoooo.... Sounds so dumb when they throw a squel in there. Just keep it low and chugging. Gatecreeper - Dark Superstition. Sounds too nice and friendly for me. Pass... Officum Triste - Death of Gaia. WTF is this... not my thing at all... death metal vocals over some indie rock sounding music. Awful combo. Primeval Mass - Nine Altars This was cool and enjoyable until the middle of the 2nd song where they start playing really happy solo. Doesn't fit the album's atmosphere, sound or image or anything at all. These lead guitarists can't help it. Black metal song? Who cares, throw in a happy solo. Ruined.... Is it asking too much for an album to have a grim feel throughout?

I think we'll have a successor to Omega Wave soon. Craig Lociciero didn't reform Forbidden with a new (and talented) singer + Kris Kontos on drums, just for the live shows.

  45. I'm not good with genres so this is probably wrong but their first album kinda of hit more of a metalcore vibe with me which turned me off it. The album the single is off to me sounded a bit more thrashy but still not pure thrash. NP: Flotsam And Jetsam - Dream Of Death
