1. i love the song Jeremiad, thats the only song that really stuck with me from that album though and I never really delved into anything else from them
2. haha, thats a story for another thread, another day my friend
3. Nobody on this board is probably gonna see it, but Straight Outta Compton was really good. Like, really fucking good. It had everything; comedy, action, drama. I had moments of laughing my ass off and even a couple where I nearly teared up. I went in pretty skeptical, but I was hooked in fifteen minutes. Maybe I've got a tinge of bias because I remember being a kid and listening to all those guys and hearing all those stories but it was very well put together, even the cinematography was great.
4. wow that location looks so prime. we simply do not get fests in places like that in america, especially metal ones. if i could legally leave the country i'd be booking my ticket now.
5. I really would like to strap on a go-pro and let yall have a live feed of the utter shit i stir up each week. Mostly because if I were to tell you here I'd sound full of shit. And yeah, that isolation thing didnt go so according to plan. Im okay with it though! Yesterday I watched this new HBO documentary on Sinatra called All or Nothing at All, and it was absolutely great. I'm a huge fan of the american standard crooners and such, I could talk for days on it. Definitely my favorite genre next to metal and rap (IMO it was the canvas rap was painted on) and I thought this one did an amazing job at detailing Frank's personal life while still focusing on the music and how it all came to be. Never realized it but I personally found parts of his early life and career incredibly relatable, very well worth a watch for anyone.
6. where the FUCK does this seemingly accepted culture of men refusing to be clean in their living situations come from? in the case of my roommates, it really seems like nobody ever taught them how to upkeep a kitchen (or house, or anything for that matter) they just relied on mom to clean up their mess. Even then, how in the good blue fuck of zuess's taint do you not learn that things explode in the microwave by 25? Thats one reason I'm eternally glad I left my parents house at an early age and learned to sustain a living environment on my own. Fuck forbid I catch one of them with a broom in their hands. And they wonder why they havent had a female over since we got this place two years ago (and on the same token, why I have to spend the entire afternoon doing said maintenance before I have one). 6 more weeks, 6 more fucking weeks...
7. ive been having severe trouble sleeping lately as well, even while taking melatonin at night. the most i can get is a 1-2 hour nap at a time. wearin me pretty fucking thin to be honest. my plans to catch Neurosis this weekend are off the table, my dad decided to take an impromptu trip to pittsburgh which subsequently ended his relationship with his girlfriend (we're much more alike than I'd like to admit) so I have to stay in town to take care of his dog. But i decided to use the remainder of the week to isolate myself a bit and spend some time just taking care of things that i've been wanting to do. Planning to translate some recent writings into some music, take my dog out for the day, and try out a couple recipes I've picked up. Hopefully the inevitable chaos that is my life here stays to a minimum
8. I just stumbled upon Majestic Downfall via the AngryMetalGuy blog and i really like the track I just heard. http://www.angrymetalguy.com/majestic-downfall-dead-review/
9. I heard some cuts from the latest Trials album the other day, the vocals arent my preference but the music is damned good, I'd say some of the very best thrash I've heard in recent years (coming from a primarily black/doom/death listener)
10. I prefer my whiskey neat unless I'm out drinking a plethora of different things that night, then I may need a mix so to not offset any weird imbalance in my constitution, I generally hate any straight liquor on the rocks though. I've been toning it down lately, but my favorite bourbon is Blanton's single barrel. A three-finger glass of it with a menthol in one hand and a notepad in the other is my personal sanctuary. When i dont feel like dropping 60 dollars for a fifth, though, I'll go with Makers Mark. And if I'm sharing with heathen friends who dont appreciate good bourbon I'll just kneel down to the puddles and get Jim Beam
11. I dont often find myself digging much metal that uses electronic elements, but I do enjoy certain deposits of electronic music. Namely artists like Excision and Datsik, who use ultra low bass and synths with dark atmospheres in a manner that IMO falls pretty well between the heaviness of metal and the catchiness of rap, which are the two genres I primarily listen to. I can think of a few cool instances where bands like Berzerker and Ministry used some electronic breaks, long as its done tastefully I can fucks with it, but as FA already said its really easy to misuse techniques while crossing genres
12. Opeth is an easy way out here since I believe all of their albums are concepts, but when I think concept albums, Porcupine Tree's In Absentia always comes to mind. Way out of my usual range, but its just a spectacular work. Steve Wilson could easily be an author the way he captures characters in such an abstract but relatable way.
13. looks like I got drunk and passed out on this page last night. At least I was thinking of yall, right!?
14. Fuck yeah dude. Ive been spinning the shit for a week now, To a Watery Grave being my favorite track. Though I found their earlier one Akrasia to be a bit more visceral and wrenching, this release is way more refined and just hits perfectly in all the right places. I really think they've got a bright future long as they stick together. Rae is a frighteningly talented chick, very much the driving force behind the band instead of just a pretty face to front it.
15. Yeah, I decided this year will finally be the one I will attend seeing that I actually have a crew willing to make the trip with me this time. I'm most stoked for Destroyer 666 and Bongripper, but also to see Dixie Collins do triple duty in a Buzzoven-Weedeater-Bongzilla succession.
16. I'm digging the shit out of Vattnet Viskar's newest album Settler. Im not in the mood to learn how to post a video again with this new layout, so just take Milk's word that it's worth checking out.
17. so a couple of tracks from the upcoming Blaze of Perdition album have just been posted, and I'm really liking what I hear. Its the first release since the accident that killed their bassist Blaze of Perdition - Near Death Revelations

Gaming

So it looks like Square is finally rebooting Final Fantasy 7 for the next-gen systems. And I'm unspeakably stoked.
19. I can't put her on the same level as many of my favorites simply for her one-dimensionality, but Katherine Katz has one of the sexiest screams in all of metal to me. Her tracks on Agorapocalypse are simply incredible in a despondent, filthy way. I've also recently discovered Cloud Rat, in which Madison Marshall has a similar style but not quite on par with Katz imo, but I really dig it.
20. just arrived in the mail today; Bongripper's live recording of Hate Ashbury from the Roadburn festival on vinyl, as well as their newest shirt design (that makes number 4 for me). Also got Maruta's newest shirt, which is just a really awesome design to me
21. Depression sucks but unfortunately many of us are prone to it, and like FA said, you just learn to live with it like any other condition. Even when I'm totally happy I still have a little guy tugging on my sleeve. Its swallowed me so many times and I'm sure it will a few more but at the end of the day Im not sure I could imagine being any other way, especially since I know for a fact that its had a direct effect on my style of humor and my art which is by far the most important attribute I possess. I mean, really. How many wide-eyed and chipper people are all THAT interesting? haha

Books?

I've been revisiting some of my old favorite collections from Bukowski and actually acquired some new ones. Women will always be one of my favorite pieces of literature, and I absolutely love the collection in Love is a Dog from Hell. I plan to start Factotum in the very near future and I'm pretty interested in Pulp.
23. Has ANYONE listened to the newest Ufomammut album? This is some serious shit dude, the best I've heard from them tbh, though I havent religiously followed them through the years
24. Pain is relative yo. Just gotta let yourself create a vacuum where you know that whatever hurls toward you can be deflected and used to your advantage. Took me years to learn, and I even still struggle with it to this day but it does work. Idunno if im the best guy to take advice from BUT my mantra is, nothing less than a shot to the head can kill me, just fuck me up a little bit, and I can always come back and be way more badass than before. Damage is like a tattoo, makes you way more interesting to look at. haha
