1. Ive definitely had a history of kicking sobriety to the curb, though its a much more manageable thing now. I used to do just about everything under the sun before I ended up with a nasty speedball problem a few years back, took me a while to get past that but I've been clean for quite a while now and only partake in booze and occasional pot. I usually only do those when I'm hanging around people, so to dull the piercing anguish the human voice gives me
2. Nickelback?.....what....have you done!?
3. fuckin ay man im getting murdered out here today! most important week of the season and I'm losin pts left and right!
4. There are no testicles present in said photos. Rufus transcends gender, as well as time, space and humor
5. a bit last minute, but we decided to put the tree up, and this is how it turned out a case of beer later. the little feller's name is Rufus. he is an anti-cosmic masochistic jester of all universes sent to spread togetherness through extreme public self-mutilation
6. All I know is they posted their US & Canada tour dates a few days ago, and naturally they aren't coming anywhere near Georgia. Which means, I'll be in NYC April 2nd, for the second show of the tour. I'd have loved to make the Philly show but its at the beginning of the week. Im not missing this damn tour.
7. brilliant album, was the first one I heard from them and still remains my favorite. When I was very young I remember there being just a straight up blood feud between the metal and core scenes, all sorts of fights breaking out at shows that had metal and core bands sharing a bill. I'll never forget being at the first Summer Slaughter tour in Atlanta, watching the frontman for Cattle Decapitation blast the kids hardcore dancing and saying something along the lines of "you see these pricks karate kicking yall know what to do", then subsequently a kid ended up getting a beer bottle smashed on his head after kicking this guy in the back. I was a kid so I got a little wrapped up in that militant bs just to feel like I was fighting for something I guess haha but as I grew up and chilled out I definitely learned how to appreciate music from these genres, long as its done well. The main appeal I can usually find in any core music is the outward passion or emotionality, I'll take a band with real feeling to their music over a technical clinic any day. Job for a Cowboy's first EP was great, and it was cool to see their progression into more serious and proficient death metal over their next couple albums. My favorite core genre is definitely grindcore though, combining the psychotic precision and furious rage into something just otherworldly.
8. I love posts like this, will definitely throw some of your recommendations onto tomorrows work playlist! Avulsed is the only Spaniard band I can think of off the top of my head that Im into, great groovy death metal
9. I agree with Relentless, sorry but dumbasses don't just rise to power like Hitler did, not in those times in that setting. I hate the taboo most people hold where its just unacceptable to say anything about Hitler that doesn't allude to pure evil.
10. I heard pornhub and metal and came as fast as I could. (no pun intended)
11. i had to post this, because as a narcissist it is probably the greatest thing ever done to me. Today I posted a public good-fun jab at my best friend/ex roommate/neighbor with whom I tend to exchange many blows with. She responded by stealing my clothes, drawing on herself, and even coining my most used phrase to publicly lampoon me, it brought such a proud tear to my eye. Here's a side by side I bitch a lot, but I think I have pretty awesome friends
12. I wouldn't be so fast to say that the world would be a "better place", nor do I think the whole world being under one regime is likely to yield good results, but as Relentless pointed out, there are definitely things that one could logically assume would be nonissues or considerably better today, in theory, had they been handled in the manner that Hitler did in his time of power. Technological advancements included, to my understanding there were a lot of scientific and technological advancements under the Nazi regime, Hitler seemed to place great value in scientists, even though they...yaknow...used Jews as lab rats and all. Its an interesting thing to ponder really. Id like to see what some legit history and econ buffs around here have to add to this
13. I love the Smashed Pumpkin, Im not a huge fan of pumpkin beers in general, not even shipyards other pumpkin beer pumpkinhead which many people swear by, but the Smashed is a go-to for me, nice and strong with great taste to boot
14. Yeah I definitely feel you on that. Ive never seen Obituary so that was really the seller for me, even though I feel they've blown their creative load long ago the first few albums were just the stuff of legends. maybe Ill catch the Atlanta date, we'll see. May just save my road trip funds for Napalm Death in January, they got Exhumed and Voivod on the bill with them so that should be a good show. speaking of exhumed, anyone here catch their quick appearance on the eric andre show last week? goddamned hilarious
15. Ive been taking it easy on the beers lately but it was a rainy sunday today so I decided to grab a couple for the football games. Went with two personal tried and trues, Dogfish Head's Sah'tea ale and Stone's Ruination IPA. I really don't enjoy most IPA's but Ruination has always struck something with me, mostly cuz it doesn't taste like a melted rubber tire like many super hoppy IPA's do to me. I love the Sah'tea, though I've never had any other sahti style beers before so I've nothing to compare it to. Its a great one for any time you want a good strong beer but don't want to feel like you've had a meal afterward
16. I didn't want to put this in the other books thread because I felt it'd get a little diluted amongst the other literary discussions, but if I was wrong for that I guess just ban my ginger ass. What are some of yalls favorite books on metal, and recommendations? I really haven't read much, aside from Lords of Chaos and Ozzy and Lemmy's autobios, but I was looking into a few today that I was considering picking up. One was called Black Metal: Evolution of the Cult, which from the reviews I read seemed like it touched a lot on the actual musical development of the style which is the main reason I'm interested, I didn't quite like Lords of Chaos because it was way too focused on the sensationalist BS surrounding it and not the music itself. Another one I considered was Choosing Death, which is about the roots of death metal and grindcore. The reviews gave me the idea that it's a bit heavy on just a couple bands like Napalm Death, Carcass, and Morbid Angel and not as well rounded as it could be but I'm still interested enough to give it a spin, I feel I've been plugged into the scene long enough to where if there was something that was total bullshit I'd be able to tell off the bat. There's also one on Swedish Death Metal (which is the title) that's supposed to be quite good but I didn't read into it as much.
17. Just found out Obituary for whatever reason isn't playing with Death on the 6th which I was planning on going to. Not so sure I wanna make the drive now :-/ I love Death and all, and it'd be cool to see at least a couple of the original members but lets face it, there's no Chuck. And without Obituary I'm not really familiar with any of the other bands playing. Bummer. Maybe I'll try to make the Atlanta show, but I doubt it with work and all
18. I don't know a great deal about them but I've always loved the song Badlands
19. One of the many things I love about metal is how much a band's location has to do with their sound. My roommate and I were just talking a few weeks ago about that, how when you hear a song from a band new to you one of the first things you ask is where they are from, which is a train of thought I find quite unique to metal (a little with rap as well, to a certain extent). I don't know if I have much of a convicted stance on which scene is "better" but I think I find myself listening to the Florida bands more, newer and classics. I'm big into the local scenes in Florida particularly Miami and Tampa/St Petersberg. A LOT of great bands are making noise down there like Orbweaver, Shroud Eater, Cosm, Set & Setting, Holly Hunt, and Maruta to name just a few
20. smartphones are designed to shit out after about two years, that's how they get you to buy the new ones so often. Fucking bullshit dirty business. Gone are the days you could hold onto a flip phone for 6 years
21. ^^ marc Rizzo is such an amazingly talented guitarist it boggles my mind that he's in bands like soulfly. I'll never understand it, but that's just me being a close minded dick I guess. I LOVED that solo album he had with Release the Kracken and such
22. My parents always hated my shirts, even though my dad is anti-religion he wasn't a fan of the satanic imagery, but they always gave me the freedom to be and dress the way I wanted. Now that I'm nearly 25 and they both have gotten to know a lot of my friends who are far more tattoo-ridden and generally unconventional looking yet wonderful people they're MUCH more accepting of the culture. anyways, this is an awful picture of me but I figured I'd keep my streak going with black eye pics, this one from the pit during Ulcer at Destroyer Fest last weekend, accompanied by my beautiful pit bull Geronimo
