In either case, they can't really qualify as "overrated metal bands" if they don't meet the base criteria of being metal bands. So, whereas I would view many of these groups as more overrated than Metallica, Metallica would likely be the most overrated band that fits into the metal genre.

Black metal's relationship with punk goes back to the beginning. Most bands don't take a heavy influence from it, but it's definitely noticeable as far back as Venom and Celtic Frost. I tend to dig that riffing approach with lots of attitude as well.

Welcome, I don't think we've ever had a member from Iran before. I used to have a friend in Turkey that was into metal, but we have lost contact. Hopefully your trip goes well, it looks like a beautiful country.

Just threw together that rough black metal rehearsal track, most of the time just went into setting up. There are only two of us, so a microphone for the guitar and and a microphone for the drums made it pretty simple. He only had a 2 channel input, so we had to do the vocals after the take was up, but we got a decent take within a few tries. I'm not sure if the drummer is going to try to mix it or not, and I feel like it might need more lyrics and vocal lines, but I may have something to share soon. I'm surprised at how decent it sounds, given that it is technically basement black metal.

The Morbid Angel album was a gift. I wouldn't buy it based on what I've heard from it, but I guess it's worth a shot if I'm not out anything by listening to it.

Jason McMaster is making music again? I'm excited by that proposition, even if the lineup sounds a bit strange. I definitely prefer Hannes on drums over guitars, and this sounds like it would be weird enough to tickle my fancy.

I guess that's true, but does it really seem like their heart had been in it for the past 25 years? Is it really all that enjoyable to phone in another album to keep the paychecks rolling? I guess my thought is that if you're out of shit to say, it's time to stop talking. Not that bands can't find their way back to making meaningful music after lapsing into self-parody, I just find it a lot more respectable when they can self-evaluate and say "guys, this just doesn't cut it. We need to scrap it and try again, or wrap it up if we can't release something that is up to the standard that we've set for ourselves."
