  1. Silvanthrone - Forbidden Pathways to Ancient Wisdom Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark
  2. He's just so smooth and effortless. Never overpowers a song, but you can almost instantly tell it's him. I'd say the same about Rocco.
  3. Yusef Dayes, Charlie Stacey, & Rocco Palladino - Welcome to the Hills Tom Misch, Yusef Dayes, & Freddie Gibbs - What Kind of Music
  4. To the original post 6 years ago, I'm one of those kids that discovered Maiden because of Eddie. Specifically the SSOASS album cover. It was so badass to my 11-12 year old self sitting up there on the display in the record store window, I just had to listen to it. And certain that my mom would hate it, so it was a lock. I had no idea it was a mascot, just a badass album cover. I think album art has sold way more music for bands than mascots, but that's just me.
  5. Bestial Possession (Peru) / Goatslaught (Greece) / Profanación Sepulcral (Chile) / Necrohammer (Mexico) - Split 2021
  6. Weakling - Dead As Dreams Mayhem - Grand Declaration of War
  7. Nice choice. I may put that on next. NP: Rush - 2112 Especially tapes. Sideways without lubrication.
  8. I'm good with them through Hysteria, but only for sentimental reasons. Hysteria hit when I was 13. I had pretty basic taste in music at that point. I remember hearing that record a gajillion times. It was on everywhere you went. Doesn't really stand up that well these days, but enjoyable now and then for a spin. Leaving out sentimental bullshit, I'd stop at Pyromania.
  9. Def Leppard - First Strike Def Leppard - On Through the Night
  10. I'm going to need a minute to quit hyperventilating
  11. Agreed, and I love Saxon and Priest, but the lyrical cheesiness just doesn't jive these days. I can put up with it on the classic albums, but on newer stuff it's a hard pass. I know we had this debate more than once on MFi, but for my money the first 2 albums and EP by Def Leppard are the best example of NWOBHM. Lots of good 1 off albums, but I would put Saxon (first 4) at 3 behind Maiden (first 2 only). Course, I'm slightly drunk at the moment, so take that with a grain of salt.
  12. Absolutely my favorite Incantation album.
  13. Local spot just got in Dogfish head Worldwide Stout on tap. Probably my favorite stout. So yeah, give me 2 of those and keep the tab open.
  14. Agree with Surge and MA here. Personally, it doesn't have to be one production style vs the other. I enjoy both even if I lean to the rawer side of things.
  15. Thy Feeble Saviour - And Darkness Fell (Houston, TX) - this album rules Yeah. I don't go to MDF for a specific band, more for the whole experience and a weekend with the boys, but Fuck I wanted to see Archgoat.
  16. Morbid Angel and Archgoat out for MDF 22. Fuck me running. I could give a shit about MA, but Archgoat!!! NP: UFO - Force It
  17. Sielunvihollinen - Ruttokieli Sielunvihollinen - Ruhonkantaja
  18. Ahh yes. I've been told on several occasions I resemble said horn throwing Satan worshipping ambassador! I wear significantly less leather and studs to work however! And all of my tattoos are covered in business clothes. Moral of the story is a metal head can try to go undercover, but their true nature will always shine through.
  19. Funny. I'm technically a suit if a bit younger. Wouldn't be mistaken for a Fink, but I do look pretty ordinary and dress appropriately for my job title (Nurse Executive for a large healthcare system). I think there's a temptation for metal heads that are up the ladder a ways to hide their musical tastes because they can be somewhat frowned upon and misunderstood. I mean I don't really sacrifice virgins and worship Satan except for the odd Tuesday or solstice, but that's the perception of many. I've never hidden my music from anyone but don't get into deep details outside of the classic bands most people know mainly because no one would know who the hell I was talking about. Certainly if someone asks I'll be happy to elaborate. Usually if someone does ask what type of stuff I listen to, I'll say swedish death metal, barking at the mailman music, or as my buddy says good old fashioned baby killing music. That's usually enough for the curious.
  20. Hmm. I've never really thought about listing my favorites. Could be a fun exercise when not limited to year of release or a definitive number (say top 10/20). Don't think I could hit 100, but can give it a shot. Kinda like the old "25 albums to take to a desert island" thread on MFi but with only black metal.
  21. I gave that a spin a week or so ago and came away somewhat unimpressed. Need to give it another shot however.
  22. Gotta have some table whiskey for mixing and such.
