  5. Interesting reading on the topic of inflation and how its measurement has changed over time. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/07/consumerpriceindex.asp https://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2017/06/the-controversy-over-inflation/530484/
  6. That's $9 US per gallon. You would see riots in the streets and public buildings burning in the States if it gets to that point here. I do think there is a tipping point with fuel prices where the economy will suffer immensely. To Kuke's point earlier, we do manage to adjust to higher prices to a degree, but there is a point where it is no longer profitable to get out of bed in the morning. Supplies can't be delivered or are not affordable, supply chains become more strained than they are now, business at the end of the supply chains can no longer afford to operate or can't get staff to come to work (because it's not affordable). Shit could get sideways quick. I know there have been these sort of doomsday predictions for years, but this time it feels different. We've been playing chicken for so long as a society that we've lost fear of real and present danger. And no one in any position to avoid the looming catastrophe seems interested in doing anything other than enriching themselves and their friends or using the situation for political gain.

  8. It's like all of Ladysmith Black Mambazo went in on a gangbang baby and taught it Tibetan throat singing. And I mean that in the most complimentary way possible. Truly impressive vocal range.

  10. Yeah, I forgot this point. Relatively minor pain in the ass, but such an easy fix that it's really annoying.

  14. From what I've seen on SM, Epic doesn't have the best reputation on the development end. I'm not a gamer, but I see plenty of hate directed their way on Reddit for botched patched/releases. IMO, they'd be best to leave bandcamp alone, but they likely will not. If I had input on future development, I would ask for: 1) Better recommendations a la "if you like this release, be sure to check out..." sort of like Spotify has with their Related Artists tab. Let the artists input their choices or have an Artist's Choice recommendations section. BC already has a "check out these" section on the bottom, but it blows goat balls. 2) Make it easier to find releases when artists have multiple releases under different labels/independent. 3) A Playlist feature if they want to flesh out the mobile app as a player similar to Spotify/Qobuz/Tidal but with music you own. 4) Make downloading to mobile a bit less complicated. Right now you have to go to the web version of the site vs just downloading straight from the app (unless I'm missing something in the android app). Would be a lot better if I could go from the app straight to my downloads folder. Hangovers are for the young. I've no time for that shit any more. If I get too liberal one night, I suffer for at least 2 days afterwards. Same goes for a night of bad sleep.
  15. I use every available means to listen to music. I know some of the streaming platforms can cause controversy, but I don't listen to Led Zepplin or Neil Young or CCR etc. enough to purchase their music. So streaming is fine for that stuff (things I don't intend to own but still listen to once in a while). Also convenient for stuff you own but don't have handy (not ripped/not accessible). Otherwise, the CD collection is reasonable. Don't have a firm number as I haven't counted recently. Somewhere around 400. I donated a couple of boxes a few years ago of stuff I didn't want to hang on too in order to thin the herd some. I have a buddy who runs a small local distro and sells used CDs/tapes at merch tables for local shows. He uses it to supplement his income and I didn't need a bunch of stuff taking up space I didn't care about. That said, I buy CDs over vinyl these days predominantly. Vinyl is just too expensive and I don't have time to listen to the 500+ I already have. 95% of my listening is digital via my home server and phone. That probably won't always be the case, but for now I have enough vinyl. I buy the CD when either 1) it's something I really want a physical copy of, or 2) the price is close enough to the digital download that it makes sense. My only issue with buying CDs is having the time to sit down and rip them to the server.
  16. Love me some Joy Division. Actually maybe a little too much. They have 2 albums and I have like 4 copies of each (different versions) and the comp with the New Order material. Now it looks like I need the boxset....

  18. Well, the work has begun. Settled on Foobar2000 for library management. It's not the easiest most visually appealing option, but it's free and doesn't require me to change my current operating system. I moved the server to a backup hard drive and have begun editing and discarding. Once it's all said and done, I'll move everything back to the server. Maybe not the cleanest way of doing it, but this was going to be messy no matter. Already cut it down considerably by eliminating duplicates and ditching all the YT rips. It's mind boggling the amount of crap I've collected over the years. I'm usually a pretty neat and tidy sort of guy in real life, but when it comes to music collecting, I guess I'm a bit of a hoarder.
