I'd agree with that, but I'd say production is much more important to me depending on the style. Atmo black could go either way, Archgoat style beastiality needs a certain production, instrumental jazz/funk (like the Delvin Lamar Trio I'm spinning at the moment) has to have pristine production, etc. As long as it fits the music and doesn't overshadow, I can usually deal with it.

I agree. This stuff (minus electronics but there is an argument to be made) are harmful to a person's health and add to the overall burden of everyone through the healthcare system/increased health insurance premiums/etc. No problem with collecting a little bit more off these products. It's not just electronics. Packaging on everything is getting to be over the top. My recycling bin is overflowing every week with cardboard, plastic, and paper from stuff we buy and/or junk mail. Horribly wasteful. My wife brought home a new cat yesterday and the associated stuff he needs seeing as we got rid of the stuff for our previous cat. Once I had put everything together, I had quite the pile of cardboard and plastic leftover. Most was completely unnecessary, but I do understand it makes the shipping more efficient.

I have been trying to go towards the @markm method for a number of years now. I find way too much on music I really don't care much about after a few spins. I do occasionally go back and spin the odd purchase because I see it on the server and think "wonder why I bought that". Then it goes back to the bottom of the abyss until some random time in the future. I'm much more picky about purchasing physical media, so I am trying to apply the same logic to digital purchases. Works most of the time. I've bought much less on bandcamp in the past 2 months than usual. Some of that is due to life getting in the way though. I've also figured out how to play my bc wishlist through my server and they don't "time out" like they do on the app, so I get to spend much more time with an album before I purchase which helps me make better decisions. I do want to spend more time with what I already have as well as explore other genres that I enjoy. So my focus hasn't been exclusively on new metal of late. 1) Not really. I'm bad at keeping track of my lists. Just remembered that Sargeist album I had on my list a few years back when Surge posted a split with them yesterday. I need to organize them better so I can keep track. I also need to purge or archive some of the shit on my server so I'm going to the good stuff more often. 2) Absolutely, but it's more random "what am in the mood for today" instead of intentional. 3) Probably 40% of my server. Those are the ones I'm trying not to buy going forward. 4) Yeah random.

I'll be there all 3 days (pre-show and fest). Been to this show both previous years and glad to see them expand to 2 days. It's a good time. Decent venue and Houston is easy to get to. This is the best lineup they've had so far and the last 2 were pretty damn good. I agree with @SurgicalBrute, Candlemass is really good live and very nice guys to boot. Saw them on the 70K Cruise and met a few of them on the deck. Totally fanboy'ed on them and they were completely cool. HH is a pretty tight show and you will run into plenty of musicians. Met Jason Tarpley and Phil Swanson the first year. All the guys from Oath of Cruelty the second. A few more guys I'm spacing at the moment. The only flaw is there's not really any hotels within walking distance of the venue.

Nice. Serpent Noir's first EP is a big favorite of mine. Most of their stuff is good if not as good that one. And Sargiest is Sargiest which is always fucking excellent. Serpent Noir - Sanguis XI

I download everything I buy from Bandcamp, but sometimes I like to listen my stuff on the go when I don't have the full collection on hand. Still, shouldn't be to much missing to make a real difference in the end.

Yeah I think that's their best currently.

His voice is interesting, but at the same time very enjoyable. I don't mind unique vocals, but they have to fit for and work for the music. I believe so. Conundrum was the album. I don't think it was as good as Excerpts. Still found it enjoyable and spin it regularly however.

That album rules. Enthroned in Catacombs is one of the best riffs I've heard in a long time.

Probably not up everyone's alley, but a project I dig a lot. The band dubs it "Adventure Rock" which I find a bit stupid silly. Sounds like 70's epic prog complete with Hammond organs and concept based albums. Their first 3 are all worthy with the best being Excerpts from a Future Past. Hällas - Isle of Wisdom

Yeah, I have to say a bit of a lazy comment meant to spark discussion and recommendations. "Lamp of Murmur types", although I like that project, was meant as one man sad boy bedroom type projects. Seems to be a ton of them out there right now. I'm not saying those bands are bad necessarily as I do enjoy some of them, but it's just not what I'm looking for necessarily. I'll admit that I don't really pay attention to the country a band is from. I though Crucifixion Bell was from South America. So maybe a better way to ask the question would be: Who are your current favorite USBM bands? Nightbringer/Aoratos definitely belongs on that list for me. I agree that like him or not, he deserves to be in the discussion of modern USBM. Utzalu is a great one. Vrasubatlat has another band that deserve mention in this thread. Triumvir Foul. The early US scene had a different feel to it. Lots of different interpretations of black metal (think Black Witchery vs Absu vs Judas Iscariot). The same could be said for early bm scenes everywhere certainly, but I guess what I was getting at was looking for US bands that take an approach similar to those early US bands rather than a more homogenous second-wave lofi approach associated with a "European sound".

His early stuff was really good. Enjoyed it a lot back when. I discovered Leviathan around the same time. Might have been the split they did or just independent albums. Not really my cuppa these days, but they were both unique and influential. I remember seeing a documentary with him (Malefic) in it. Strange dude for sure. Still spin Tenth Sublevel and Massive Conspiracy once or twice a year. Both of those are really solid albums. I've seen Black Mass of Absu in passing but never checked them out. Thanks gentlemen. I forgot some of those. I left Leviathan and Black Funeral off my first list and should have included them. I'll check out those others. I'm quasi familiar with Negative Plane but haven't spent any legit time with them. Can't say I've heard Spite.
