  1. What makes it worse is that it does not seem to be affiliated with any band.
  2. I don't know how I feel about this...
  3. Personally, I would put Ihsahn over Caligula. His work on Anthems was too amazing to simply be #4. I thought Varg's vocals on his later albums were good too. Different, but good. I would also inject Thurios from Drudkh into the conversation. I always thought that his vocals were perfectly balanced for black metal.
  4. Try Doomsday Cult. They are not explicitly racist, but are nevertheless NSBM by association and imagery. Their newest album was really good.
  5. "O Father O Satan O Sun!" was my favorite Behemoth song, and I hope their new album will have songs that are similar.
  6. New Behemoth! http://whatculture.com/music/10-most-anticipated-metal-albums-of-2018?page=1
  7. "Hvis Lyset Tar Oss" - Burzum
  8. Part of "Drawing Down the Moon" - Beherit
  9. Thanks for the advice. I am using the tape recorder for a few reasons. One, as you mentioned, is that it will help to create a raw sound, which I want. Second, I have nothing else to record with, and would prefer to not pay to go to a recording studio - at least not yet (it is my first time writing music/recording, after all).
  10. I finished a short song, and will try to record soon. Any tips? It's my first time recording. I was planning on using a small digital tape recorder.
  11. "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" - Emperor "Demo 2017" - Dukkha Parts of: -Xasthur's acoustic stuff -"Live in Zeitz" - Mayhem -"Pure Holocaust" - Immortal
  12. I looked up some clips of Xasthur playing acoustic songs live. I liked the guitar a lot, but thought that the vocals are definitely questionable. It has to be done right though. That was what I disliked about Lebenssucht. I thought that the costume of the singer was too much.
  13. That's disappointing. Was the music just bad, or were they simply poor performers? I read that the acoustic stuff was not that great.
  14. I find this an interesting topic, as I play both metal and classical guitar (the latter much longer than the former). My objection to conflating the two would be that metal is an umbrella term applied to a wide array of musical styles and sounds (as is classical music). Thus, while some subgenres/bands have classical influences or sounds, others do not (take Darkthrone).
  15. I would say that I find the metal music that I listen to to be meditative. In a way, this is spiritual for me, especially when it evokes senses of nature (which is something that I find very important).
  16. There is also Lebenssucht. I am a bit turned off by them through, as playing dsbm live seems weird (then again, Xasthur played live once).
  17. A few songs by Walknut and Cult of Fire.
  18. How is a new genre of metal formed? I was thinking that at minimum there should be a handful of bands that are all consciously pursuing a new musical style. Also, does anyone see the beginnings of new genres (as in distinct genres - like black or death metal -, rather than subgenres of subgenres - like dsbm or war bm -) of metal music now?
  19. I realized that I listen to more pop music than metal because it is all that is played where I work. It's kind of depressing.
  20. It wasn't too bad, as my family and I had celebrated earlier in the week.
  21. I found some clips of Hate Forest playing live, but have yet to watch them all of the way through.
  22. I finally created a few riffs that, in my opinion, actually sound good. I might have a first draft of a bm song soon. Lucky, I had work.
