  1. Reek of the Unzen Gas Fumes: This is one of the most sonically extreme bands that I have heard thus far. Hailing from Japan, this bm/grindcore band has been producing a quality demos and splits since 2012. They use drum programming, which I know that some dislike. However, they take what could have been a negative, and made it a positive by pushing the technology to its limits. The beats are inhumanly fast, and the guitars are aggressive, and the vocals are simply monstrous. Kristallnacht: I think that it is time for this band to get an official listing on this thread. While other musicians were employed at various points during its history, Kristallnacht was essentially a one man project. Since the mid-1990s, this French band has produced a series of short (only around ten minutes each) eps, demos, and splits. They are all high quality, and each contain examples of great bm riffs and overall compositions. While Kristallnacht ceased its activities in 2003, it remains one of the greatest bm bands to have emerged from France.
  2. Welcome! What genres/bands do you enjoy the most?
  3. Welcome! You mentioned that you are "philosophical" - do you study philosophy?
  4. "A Darkened Winter" - Xasthur Beherit / Death Yell split
  5. 7/10 Nice vocals and guitar tone - both sound perfect for extreme music. The problem for me, however, is that the song is too tame and plodding to totally accommodate them. I liked the riff, but it just did not completely click with the rest of the music to me - the disconnect was just a little too great. If they would just increase the speed of their playing, it would be great.
  6. "Conflict is Control / Poisonous Gas Thrower of Jigoku" - Konflict / Reek of the Unzen Gas Fumes "Blooddrenched Memorial" - Kristallnacht
  7. "Conflict is Control / Poisonous Gas Thrower of Jigoku" - Konflict / Reek of the Unzen Gas Fumes
  8. "Areifatoi" - Der Stürmer "2005 Demo" - Xasthur
  9. "Atomic Regurgitation From The Three Mouths Of Humanicidal Hate" - Tetragrammacide
  10. I have been meaning to share this track here for a while. It is an acoustic cover of Burzum's "Die Liebe Nerpus." It is amazing how the change from a synth to acoustic guitars produces such a starkly different atmosphere.
  11. Its Drudkh's instrumental, acoustic album. I think it represents some of their best and most significant work. You should definitely check it out.
  12. "Der Fünfzehnjährige Krieg" - Absurd
  13. I think that one album would probably be Mgła's "Exercises in Futility." The entire album has excellent riffs, pacing, and lyrics. All instrumentation is executed with great skill (especially the drummer!), and the singer's voice is perfectly suited for his music. Paysage d'Hiver's "Das Tor" was another great example of black metal from the 2010s. The entire album was filled with hypnotic riffs and excellent, atmospheric ambiance. I will try to post some more as I think of them.

  16. Cover art now available!
  17. "Blooddrenched Memorial" - Kristallnacht "Drawing Down the Moon" - Beherit
  18. I think, however, that all that you described can be achieved whilst also remaining true to oneself. As I think more about what I said earlier, I realized that I was pretty much just rehashing annoyance against fake, sell-out bands. This conversation also brought to mind the concept of escapism and fantasy in music - where you create a new, and deliberately fake, world in which you can forget about reality.
