  1. Listening to this delightful prog rock band from Netherlands called TumbleTown. Quite mellow but lovely songwriting. http://freiamusic.co.uk/album/never-too-late Speaking of Anthrax, they had some good stuff back in their old days but even then I could never place them in the same league with the best thrash bands of that era. Always thought they (Anthrax) were a bit overrated.
  2. I loved the new (and last) Pagan Altar album. I remember spending a whole day listening to The Portrait of Dorian Gray on repeat!
  3. Welcome to the forum. Pretty friendly people here from what I have seen. And it's good that you seem to have a pretty open mind when it comes to music. Cheers, see you around!
  4. Misto, I had never heard of that band before reading your post. Catchy song and entertaining vid, haha. I always like discovering new stuff, so thanks for posting that song.
  5. And which phone is this? I must make it a point to never buy it by mistake, lol
  6. Thank you for unlocking this, MacabreEternal. The intent here is not to just list out songs one likes, but more to highlight recently heard songs that someone really likes, on an ongoing basis. And also post links to the song so that others can have a quick listen to. I do get your point about the recommendations threads, but not all the genre forums seem to have such threads and I also felt that a genre agnostic thread for good songs was missing from the general forum. Been listening to this Lecherous Nocturne song since yesterday. Like the rest of the album, on first listen, everything just flew by in a blur. But a few repeat listens and the riffs started asserting themselves. The production could probably have been a lot better, but damn, this reminds me of a bastard mix of old Morbid Angel and Cryptopsy riffs.
  7. Hello Ailtinho, welcome to the forum! I am a newbie here too, like you
  8. The purpose of creating this thread, as the title suggests, is to showcase songs that have really caught your attention lately. Whether you prefer to listen to albums as a whole, or a random selection of individual songs, there are times when you come across particular songs that you really like and end up listening to a couple of times in a day or over a few days. There are many threads dedicated to albums and bands, but not many focusing on favourite songs. Let this be place where we can talk about such songs and also maybe link to them on youtube/bandcamp so those who are interested can take a quick listen. To start with, my first pick would be Sentient Divide's Fabricated Chasm off their Bloodgate EP (released 30th May 2018). Wonderfully thick, crusty death metal which oozes old school charm and has some heavy as fuck lurching grooves. https://sentientdivide.bandcamp.com/track/fabricated-chasm-2
  9. Oh, regarding the Czech bands, I forgot to mention Reek of Shits' album Bloody Obstetric Technology - a tad simplistic but really groovy goregrind. Thank you, I will start a thread in the General Chat section soon. I can see what you mean regarding the 'what are you listening to' thread, but that thread is a bit too general - I was thinking of a dedicated thread for songs that have really caught someone's interest, along with youtube/bandcamp links to the songs as well.
  10. Same here, I have not really kept track of the Czech scene for a while now. But apart from Jig Ai and Alienation Mental, some of the bands I remember liking quite a bit used to be NCC (Negligent Collateral Collapse), Eardelete (mostly NCC members), Cerebral Turbulency, Four Seats for Invalids, some of Ahumadu Granujo's stuff and some straight up death metal from Fleshless and Ingrowing. And coming back to the topic of annoying vocals, it makes me feel very guilty too whenever I listen to Archspire. Really good music at times, but the vocals mostly just ruin it for me completely. Oh, I had a question to ask you - Lately I have not been listening to whole albums but random individual songs instead. I tried searching for a thread here which focuses on highlighting good songs heard, but could not really find anything recent. Can I start a new thread on this, and which forum section will it belong to?
  11. Natassja7, deathstorm and salmonellapancake - thanks for the welcome! p.s - salmonellapancake is an awesome name too, haha Awesome list of stuff. I love T.O.O.H! Always kind of had a soft spot for Czech bands, especially grind bands like Alienation Mental. I can understand what you mean by the vocals though. While I can still tolerate the T.O.O.H vocals, there are a few bands that despite appealing to me musically, still find themselves being put at arms length just because I cannot get used to the vocals. Mekong Delta seems to be the perfect example of such a band for me.
  12. Interesting, I will have to check these guys out. Are you familiar with Algophobia? Prog death/thrash from Italy, released only one self titled album in 1992. Really beautiful songs!
  13. From my perspective, a damn good song is a damn good song, whether it was recorded 30 years ago or 30 days ago. The past has already given us many damn good songs, which I still enjoy listening to, and the present also has plenty of damn good songs, though just a bit more difficult to find these days. But searching for them remains the most fun thing I do these days.
  14. FatherAlabaster, that Saor stuff you linked up there is quite nice. I have been listening to a lot of Big Big Train today, ever since I discovered there. Very interesting prog rock. This song has some nice jazz influenced drumming along with piano, organs and what not. https://bigbigtrain.bandcamp.com/track/on-the-racing-line
  15. Atheist's Unquestionable Presence remains my all time favourite album, only challenged by Decrepit Birth's Diminishing Between Worlds and Obscura's Omnivium. For me, no other album comes even close to it. Anata are pretty awesome too, love the way they introduce melody into their stuff. Lykathea Aflame too, for that matter. Great that you are into Anacrusis, not many even know of them. I love all Anacrusis albums except for Reason - that one just didn't gel with me somehow. Manic Impressions is brilliant, but marred by the bad production. What other stuff are you into?
