  3. Morningrise was where I discovered Opeth. Love it to pieces, but BWP is their pinnacle which extends through the twins of Deliverance and Damnation. @markm, id hesitate to reconsider your back catalog rule with any other band, but Opeth is different. Everything they did from the first album through Ghost Reveries is worth your time. My Arms and Orchid both have some real gems. The Baying of the Hounds, Face of Melinda, The Moor... just so many great tunes.

Well it seems he's back now with a new red logo. Unless it was a different YT channel Blivvie was talking about, I can't remember now. Obscurial - Heretic, Malaysia. Digging this one. 14. Bon jour Ari. Every morning you come and I think maybe I should listen to some French bands. Never realized how many French metal bands there actually were 'til you showed up here. I've noticed tonight that all 3 of these bands are from various towns in the eastern part of France, not far from Switzerland. Would you say this is probably just a coincidence, or are the people from eastern French just more grindy for the most part? I know they have to grind the mustard to make dijon (the only type of mustard I'll eat) maybe that grinding mentality has spilled over into their music. You're down in the southwest part of France near Bordeaux right? I love looking at European maps and seeing all the various names of places we've adopted here in America. I see you have a Bayonne over there in Aquitaine, we have one too right here in New Jersey, also a port city. And even "Jersey" is the name of a place in France. We're practically brothers! It's funny my ex's father was French so she used to always ask if we could go to France one day. And I always told her no because I never had any desire to see France. We hear stories here in the states about how the French hate Americans because we come over there acting all loud and pompous and entitled and uncouth and idiotic and none of us speak a word of French, we just expect you guys to cater to us. Shit, I don't want to be one of those stupid Americans. I've always wanted to see Spain or Greece or Scandinavia or even the UK could be cool, but never France. But now that I've found all these French bands I've become a little bit curious about France. Not gonna ask my ex though, she got tired of waiting for me and finally made it to France with her sister a couple of years ago. 19. Dude this album is awesome, I fucking love it. And not just because big Ed and the boys are from Red Bank New Jersey. Although that helps, and Ed was after all a founding member of both The Atomic Bitchwax and Monster Magnet, two of my favorite non-extreme rock bands. Even though Ed only guests on three tracks here, it's still a good album, I'm sold. Solarized - Neanderthal Speedway, Red Bank NJ 1999 Unida - Coping With the Urban Coyote, another cool stoner rock album from 1999 in much the same vein, featuring John Garcia of Kyuss fame on vox. You're gonna get me on a whole stoner thing now.

  21. Thanks, I'll give it a spin along with the others. And thanks @navybsn for the recs. I'll add those to the list. I'm sure there will be some more awesome stuff to find in addition to that Unanimated album I'm currently enjoying.

  22. I'd say if you're looking at Unanimated don't skip out on Ancient God of Evil. Great album if not that similar to Dissection. Also, for a more modern equivalent, check out these guys: Ninkharsag https://vendetta-records.bandcamp.com/album/the-dread-march-of-solemn-gods

  23. One of their best albums. Sealed With a Fist is such a banger. Thanks @GoatmasterGeneral. I'm really digging Unanimated - In Light of Darkness. Missing some of the speed of Somberlain but it has those evil riffs I love. Light's Bane is one of my all time fav albums. Still gotta check the Necrophobic album. Thanks @SurgicalBrute. I'll check all these out. It will take several days but I'm well stocked for now. Got a craving for that Dissection sound.

  24. I'll second this suggestion. It's not quite as catchy as Dissection were at their best, but what it loses in that department it more than makes up for in depth and quieter shifts in the guitars. For me at least, that creates a ton of replayability. NP: Fantasma - Abomination of Human Pestilence ▶︎ Abomination of Human Pestilence | Fantasma | Narbentage Produktionen (bandcamp.com) This one's growing on me. It's only an EP, but it shows a lot of potential.

  29. NP: Chainsword - Born Triumphant ▶︎ Born Triumphant | Chainsword (bandcamp.com) Polish dm. The expected Bolt Thrower and Vader are in here along with a few tricks to vary things up. Otherwise the album knows what it is and fully embraces the idea that doing something unoriginal extremely well will always beat doing something original poorly. Fans on the subgenre, myself included, will enjoy.

  40. Alright now this is starting to make sense, I didn't realize you were talking abut sours either. Don't remember anyone saying anything about sours, we were talking about the hugely popular IPAs and how a lot of them have that citrusy after-taste that I personally don't care for. They're drinkable in a pinch, and some are better than others, but I don't seek them out. Now sours are a completely different story. When a bunch of us went to the Metal Threat festival at Reggie's in Chicago back in July '19, one of our mates who happened to be from the windy city took us all (wasn't his shout but he suggested the place) to this burger joint called Kuma's Corner that had all of their burgers named after various rock and metal bands. And they had shitloads of different beers on tap. I made the mistake of ordering one of those sours since I'd never tried one before. I took one sip and almost spit it back out, had to flag down the chick to take it away and bring me something else. Never again, that was truly some nasty shit. Don't know how the normies can even pretend to like it man. You don't really say "blimey" in real life do ya Doc? That was just for poetic effect, right? 41. It's a shame Chris and his brother never put together a proper thrash band to rival Megadeth back in the day, because I listened to this album on repeat for weeks when it came out.

  43. Hekseblad - Kaer Morhen (2024) Initially attracted by the cover, with its tones strongly reminiscent of Emperor's In the Nightside Eclipse, the album's name drew my curiosity further: Kaer Mohren, the ruined fortress of the witchers in Andrzej Sapkowski's novels. And then came the music. Epic, sometimes violent, I love the singing. As for the production, which is dry but leaves plenty of room for the instruments to express themselves, I can't fault it at all. In short, having bought the album last night on a whim, this morning I'm listening to it!

  44. Haha I was actually just having some fun with my Aussie forum mate, I know there are lots of chicks into heavy metal. Maybe not so much into some of the really raw shit I'm into, but certainly lots of chicks dig more accessible shit like Metal Church. Hell even I dig the first Metal Church album, consider it a classic, even if I've never liked anything else they've ever done in the 40 years since. But I do enjoy cooking (gotta eat right?) and I love me some breasts of course (goes without saying) so I might check your vid out later for the breasts of fire. Speaking of cooking, it's 7:20 almost dinnertime here, so I should probably whip up something for the boy first before I start a 47 minute video. And if it makes you feel any better you'd definitely qualify as a chick to me, I'm sure I'm way older than you. I haven't met too many chicks in my age bracket who are into actual metal, even most of the dudes my age aren't into real metal. But anyway welcome to our humble abode, and I hope you stick around for a bit. Everything's always more fun when there's a few women around. We don't usually get a ton of chicks in here sadly, save for the occasional angsty teenage chicks who'll wander in for a few days or a few weeks and then disappear again as quietly as they came.

  45. NP: Vircolac - Veneration ▶︎ Veneration | Vircolac | Dark Descent Records (bandcamp.com) I'm not 100% sold on this one. It's holding my interest though. The (basically) a capella opening track actually won me over after my initial misgivings. The album is definitely kind of an in-between for black metal. Sometimes they sound like they want to dive head first into murky uncomfortable atonality and sometimes they sound like they want nothing more than to put their foot on the gas and make the sort of howling desolate black metal that their stronger chord progressions lend themselves to. Beneath it all though is a solid metal center holding the thing together, so I'll definitely be returning to this one, perhaps with a clearer head.

  48. I'm not a good flyer so the chances of me ever going to the UK or the US are slim. I'm not afraid of flying but I just get uncomfortable in the seats and walking around the plane isn't enough for me. I also can't sleep on planes which can really suck. I remember multiple times coming straight from night shift, driving for 11 hours, then staying awake until the afternoon flight so I could sleep on the plane and not sleeping a fucking wink. Then having to stay awake and listen to the outlaws waffle until the wee hours of the morning. Flying across to Perth (5 hours there and 3 1/2 back) is more than enough for me. Perth to Melbourne is quicker but it feels longer because of the time change, but the 3 hour drive home is also a major PITA if it's a late arrival. Driving takes us 4-5 days and it's much more enjoyable, and I get less time with the outlaws. NP: Phantasm - Wreckage

  49. Big motherfucking Lebowski, one of my very favorite memes. I love the way he just stirs that drink ad infinitum 'til the end of time. Or 'til the end of the internet, whichever comes first. That also happens to mirror the exact look on my face while I'm reading most of your posts! I also like this one quite a bit... And this one... And of course this all time classic...
