The Mrs was watching some MTV channel and Aerosmith were on it. Will somebody PLEASE set fire to that prick who sings with them? How can rock/metal fans slag off disco/dance posers when they like that fanny? He's got more women's clothes ON him than my wife OWNS. And as for that bun of a daughter of his, have you seen that twee, phoney hair advert she does on the telly? What a fuckin bed-wetter she is!!! Phoneys=I hate them more than anything. I blame Van Halen for that shite; all hair and image and more teeth than a dentist's dustbin. Cunts. Here's more- Blink 182- Nneed set fire to. U2- Urghh! Multi millionaires lecturing us about morals?? Fuck off. Whitesnake (well, David Cover-version to be honest). That puff checks his hair when he answers the phone. Def Leppard-Seriously? Has any serious rock fan heard 'Let's Get Rocked'? More embarrassing than catching your parents shagging. Manowar-Does ANYONE take that shite seriously? The Darkness- See above. Zodiac Mindwarp- the only manufactured act that wasn't manufactured. Or successful. Who's you most hated rockers/metallers?

Re: Who do you really, really hate... GnR is pretty much glam in my opinion. OP's list had pretty much covered all of those "great names" in rock that look like girls, but for what I think, OP forgot the worst: Europe! Their Final Countdown is nice in melody, catchy and all that crap, but every time someone calls it rock, I have a flash of red in my eyes... It's a pop song. Period. They have no real rock spirit going on, they look like drags and worst of all, that song doesn't even mean anything. I mean, c'mon! "We're heading for Venus, but still we stand tall" It could represent divorce or something, except they're all the time leaving together even though it's a farewell!?

Re: Who do you really, really hate... I don't like straight covers either, you should make it always to represent your own unique style. But the dilemma here is that I'm not (at least yet) confident enough to take it under work to make my own Ace of Spades... Maybe after I finish Adagio for G-minor by Tomaso Albinoni cover for one bass, I'll be able even to try to make a cover of mine from Ace of Spades.

GnR is pretty much glam in my opinion. OP's list had pretty much covered all of those "great names" in rock that look like girls' date=' but for what I think, OP forgot the worst: Europe! "We're heading for Venus, but still we stand tall" It could represent divorce or something, except they're all the time leaving together even though it's a farewell!?[/quote'] Forgot about them! How the hell did they get to headline (and close) Bloodstock? They've never had a metal fan base, or even any credibility. I don't want to offend anyone on here, but something else I hate is carefully crafted image. The one that really pisses me off right now is the short hair, glasses and beard look, always accompanied by 'normal' high street clothes-never leather jackets or band t shirts. It's as if they're doing their best to look 'intellectual'. They're always finished off by tattoos that are classed 'old school' (christ, I hate that expression). It should be against the law for metal bands to have tattoos other than zombies, horror and skulls with daggers through them. I like my metal bands to be metal. So there!

Re: Who do you really, really hate... I can't get the full on metal hair or a beard but I don't go ANYWHERE without a band shirt on, that is unless it is absolutely necessary i.e. they're all in the wash, and when it's a little colder i.e. now my leather jacket is a must, not because I want to look metal or whatever I don't give a fuck about image I just wear the stuff I feel comfortable in and I don't feel comfortable in all this "fashionable" bullshit that everyone seems to be caught up in

Who do you really, really hate... Don't think it matters what you look like really. I wear shorts most of the year ( yes murph even here in the UK) and t-shirts, may be with a jumper if it's a bit cold. Footwear is Vans skate shoe most of the time or biker boots. I've loads of tattoos, all my style whatever that is. Lol As long as the musical is good that's all that matters to me. Back to OP. Don't hate anyone, just avoid what I don't like. Easy.

Re: Who do you really, really hate... probably the best philosophy, unfortunately I'm forced to endure many of the things I have intense dislike for as every other member of my family is attempting to show me the "error of my ways" and attempting to show me what "real music should sound like" and the louder I play the good stuff (metal) the louder they play the bad stuff (modern opo)

Re: Who do you really, really hate... Of course it doesn't matter what you look like-I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek. But I did mean the bands, really, rather than the fans. There's obviously a fashion thing associated with any scene, and I just don't like some bands trying to look like smart-arsed university types. Just my opinion (grumpy old man, eh?). And if you ever met me you'd probably not know I was into metal, more like an old skinhead! Back to the OP; Guns & Roses are another lot and seem to be widely hated on this forum too. Mind you, the more I hear of Slash being interviewed on TV/radio, the less I want him dead. He seems like a decent guy. That Axle Rose, mind you; he should be shot with bullets of his own shite. And that fanny that sings with the Darkness? If I was stuck in a lift with him, Tony Blair and I had a gun with 2 bullets left, I'd shoot that Darkness fudd twice.

Re: Who do you really, really hate... I have to agree with the Blink-182 assessment. But if I'm honest, I quite like Def Leppard. Anyhow, I find it hard to believe no one's thought up how best to execute brokenCYDE. They easily rank with the worst ten bands I've heard. Their music is atrocious (a mix of metalcore, rap and pop. O what a trifecta of aural bile), their image is ludicrous and their lyrics are revolting.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!

    • Full length number 19 from overkill certainly makes a splash in the energy stakes, I mean there's some modern thrash bands that are a good two decades younger than Overkill who can only hope to achieve the levels of spunk that New Jersey's finest produce here.  That in itself is an achievement, for a band of Overkill's stature and reputation to be able to still sound relevant four decades into their career is no mean feat.  Even in the albums weaker moments it never gets redundant and the energy levels remain high.  There's a real sense of a band in a state of some renewed vigour, helped in no small part by the addition of Jason Bittner on drums.  The former Flotsam & Jetsam skinsman is nothing short of superb throughout "The Wings of War" and seems to have squeezed a little extra out of the rest of his peers.

The album kicks of with a great build to opening track "Last Man Standing" and for the first 4 tracks of the album the Overkill crew stomp, bash and groove their way to a solid level of consistency.  The lead work is of particular note and Blitz sounds as sneery and scathing as ever.  The album is well produced and mixed too with all parts of the thrash machine audible as the five piece hammer away at your skull with the usual blend of chugging riffs and infectious anthems.

There are weak moments as mentioned but they are more a victim of how good the strong tracks are.  In it's own right "Distortion" is a solid enough - if not slightly varied a journey from the last offering - but it just doesn't stand up well against a "Bat Shit Crazy" or a "Head of a Pin".  As the album draws to a close you get the increasing impression that the last few tracks are rescued really by some great solos and stomping skin work which is a shame because trimming of a couple of tracks may have made this less obvious.
