  1. It's a few degrees below freezing here, and for some reason the heat in our building stopped coming on. It just snowed again, too. The last snow that we had melted over the weekend, and the stuff on the roof leaked through our upstairs neighbor's bathroom window, flooded their bathroom, and leaked through our ceiling to flood ours as well. I'm not much of a summer person, but I'll trade with you Southrons. Ugh.
  2. I've been saving a half bottle of good rye for the occasion. Finally found a place that sold Sixpoint's "Global Warming" winter ale at a non-rapacious price. A really good beer! Malty without being sweet, with Sixpoint's signature fresh hop profile - bitter, but not resinous, maybe a little bit of funk. I don't think they ship much outside of N.Y. state. Two issues with Sixpoint - they over-hop everything and their beers have a very limited shelf life. The store near my house routinely stocks beer that expired months ago. But since this stuff is seasonal, it's brewed fresh... and I like hops. So there's no problem. I also had some Blast IPA from Brooklyn recently. Unfortunately this was a bit of a disappointment. The hop profile was great, but it had an almost sugary sweetness without enough body for my taste. I love a lot of their beers, but don't think I'll be getting that one again.
  3. I love finding good local stuff. NYC has several good breweries, so I drink local as much as possible, though I totally love some bitter west coast IPAs. I can't consider myself a connoisseur, but my dad used to brew and judge at beer competitions and I picked up a lot from talking to him about it.
  4. Ry Cooder's soundtrack for "Last Man Standing" Some really nice stuff on this, if you're in the mood for it. I also just finished listening to a recent Ulver. One of my friends gave me a bunch of albums to check out, quite a bit of atmospheric stuff in the collection.
  5. Cheers to that! Not what I'm having, but I must set aside a pizza and beer night soon.
  6. Has flashes ov brilliance. Ovr first official albvm shall be a greatest hits compilation... {insert chilling black metal lavghter}
  7. So only two original members, huh? I really liked their old drummer. I'm sure the new guys are doing a good job, though. That's an awesome setlist! I have the live DVD, they totally killed it back in the day. I'd love to see them in person.
  8. Greymachine - Disconnected Hadn't heard this before, so I'm giving it a chance. I was warned not to expect songcraft...
  9. :lol:That pretty much svms it vp! Somehow I think entropic existent nonexistence is gonna be a hard act to follow. It wovld have taken a million incorporeal gibbons a million years of sitting at imaginary typewriters to acheive this magnitvde of nothingness. Masterfvlly vndone.
  10. Thank you! I'll take it as high praise, considering Michelangelo was an idol of mine growing up and is still one of my favorite sculptors/draftsmen. From our perspective, it's easy to criticize the Renaissance artists for being too stiff, but considering what came before them, they made some amazing strides. As much as I love medieval art, I'll never forget the feeling of relief I had when we moved on into the Renaissance in my art history class. I love painting from the French Neoclassical period as well, but I'd rather be able to incorporate more of the plasticity and emotive force of someone like Rodin into my work, than the pedantry of J-L. David (still one of my favorite painters anyway).
  11. Hi, welcome to the forum! I like moshing a bit... What's this?
  12. Re: What's on your mind? So, what else is new?
  13. Re: What Are You Listening To? I was surprised at how well it suited my mood while I was painting. But I tend to be most productive with sprawling, atmospheric, melodic records when I'm doing art, so it makes sense. Favorites are Opeth and Isis, usually. I can't recall the last time I listened to this album, but I'll probably be putting it on again soon. It's odd, though, I never used to like Burzum. What's going on?
  14. So I just read through this article at Gear Gods - an interview with Colin Marston about the recording process for the new Gorguts. Interesting read if you're into recording, and I thought Marston had a lot of good stuff to say. I like his approach and his thought process. But I couldn't help thinking, after all that work, that I wish it sounded better. I LOVE Colored Sands, compositionally, but the sound is underwhelming. Particularly the drums, they sound thin, a little washed out. The kick and snare are lifeless. Ah well. Great album, and a good interview, anyway.
  15. That sounds particularly... vial.
  16. Re: What Are You Listening To? Do you like the idea of Christmas music re-envisioned as cheesy symphonic power metal? If so, then go for it.
