  1. That's funny, they were part of my move away from death metal. When I was kid I was really into Cannibal Corpse, Deicide, Suffocation, lots of other DM crap as well as Sepultura, Fear Factory, Pantera, Meshuggah - whatever was blowing up at the time. In the next couple of years I got into Dark Tranquillity and At The Gates, and then from there moved on to black metal, and that's when I discovered Opeth - their melodies and song structures really clicked with me. That's right after Morningrise came out. Still such a great album to me!
  2. Oh, I love Opeth. They've been one of my favorites for seventeen years. Now maybe I'll have to go listen to Opeth too.
  3. You're really taking this to heart... (that was directed at Macabre there... )
  4. Just finished playing my new album through for like the hundredth time... I keep making little tweaks and adding little things. I've been concentrating on the transitions between songs, adding tiny bits here and there, and I'm about ready to let it go... my ears are tired of critical listening.
  5. I love quesadillas, especially with veggies or maybe some chicken as well. I'm into more of the second kind myself, would love to try your recipe! oh good...
  6. Omelet with onions and cheddar, nothing special but yummy regardless.
  7. Considering your dietary restrictions, I'm surprised you made them! But they look delicious. Did you have any, or are they for your husband/friends?
  8. Re: What Are You doing? (Picture Version) The road to the barber is littered with the clippings of such false prophets.
  9. Hey man, it doesn't take the best lyricist to write the best songs. I work my ass off on mine and only rarely feel that I've come close to evoking what the music means while making sense in any way. The more seriously you take it, the harder it is! Was that your drumkit in the pic in the other thread? Singing drummer? If you have a recording you're happy with, you should post it, would be nice to hear what more people are working on. And don't get Relentless started about bass players...
  10. Re: Whatcha Eatin'? Aaargh, really, now I won't be able to get to sleep without my tummy growling at me! We definitely had to save a lot to prepare for our son, and we took quite a hit once he was born, but we did get to spend a lot of time with him right after his birth. That's really the most important thing. And then there was a window where we could take him with us to restaurants and he didn't mind. We're well out of that now! Can't take him anywhere except a park most days. It's a good thing, keeps us from spending money we shouldn't. Though I go a bit stir crazy sometimes. Tuna carpaccio... steak carpaccio... thanks for that.
  11. Ok, this is another one I'd have to hear. With the right music it might make a cool song. Some of the rhymes seem a little forced, and it's not really saying a lot - seems like three separate ideas in the same set of lyrics. The imagery at the beginning of the verses is the most compelling part of it to me, and the repetition of the final line throughout could be effective. As poetry, it doesn't quite stand up, but that's not essential to making a good song anyway. Did you guys record anything?
  12. Edit, aargh tapatalk, not showing me your post...
  13. I'm envying you Aussies right now. My favorite Italian food in the city has gone to meh recently. We've got an ok place in the neighborhood (surprisingly) as well as one of my favorite pizza joints and an amazing Spanish restaurant, but I can't recall the last time I ate at any of them. We don't live in the most super-awesome neighborhood, and as it becomes more upscale I suspect we will be priced out.
  14. Ghouly's dinner sounds great. I'm having an odd time cutting carbs down; considering that bread was most of what I ate, I just wind up not eating, and then being hungry. Also cutting back on the beer, which means less calories all around... I just finished the last of my shepherd's pie tonight. Up next, a traditional beef stew, or maybe a big pot of chicken soup? I need to learn how to make a pie crust, so I can make my own chicken pot pie.
  15. Re: Describe the user above you with 3-5 Words! Has mistaken "mistaken" for "recognized". Far too kind, sir!
  16. ruthlessly discriminates against shaven gibbons
  17. Ah, you can find crap food anywhere. It's the good stuff that takes some work. Man, I'm glad my appetite is back, but now I'm really hungry.
  18. There's so much good food in Brooklyn... where to begin? Although my favorite Vietnamese place, this little hole in the wall, closed up shop this past year with vague promises to return "at another location at some point in the future". I will miss that pho. Fuck, now I want pho.
  19. Lumbar - The First And Last Days Of Unwelcome I find that I really like the soundscapey stuff, maybe more than the "songs". Good flow, heavy grooves. I wouldn't listen to this all the time, but it's not the kind of thing you should listen to all the time anyway. A very good sludge-doom album so far, with an interesting approach to vocals.
  20. Lumbar - The First And Last Days Of Unwelcome via Bandcamp looking forward to walking around with the whole thing
  21. Blood donor, by request only. Given my recent tummy problems, you've no idea how apt this is.
  22. It's a funny contrast with their bassist, cause he's huge. They did a good job when I saw them, but they looked like they were fighting through some real fatigue or sickness. She did stay up on stage the whole time, though, which is good, cause there were some heavy dudes throwing down up front.
  23. So how's this work? Will you know it when you see it? Are some "bearded" from birth, and others simply not, or will you be later chosen according to the strength and will of your beard? What of those worthy among us who cannot grow the beard? What of those once bearded, who shave? And what of those who should rightly be shaven, but grow beards either in ignorance or in mockery of the Beard Of Legend? Forgive my innocence in these matters, O Thoroughly Bearded One, as my simple goatee and I seek only guidance.
  24. Our trucks are hit and miss. But we have a shit ton of them: taco trucks, halal food trucks, chicken trucks, waffle trucks, coffee trucks... Some are very good, others, eh. Hands down the best Mexican food I've had in the city is at a restaurant called Taco Chulo. Great ingredients, totally customizable recipes, house-made sauces, and the drinks are banging too - the only place in the city that I ever order a mixed drink, come to think of it. Hard to go wrong. Still on my shepherd's pie! So good to have, now that I basically took a day off from eating.
  25. ...followed by a nice cheesecake topped with lard, wrapped in bacon and deep-fried?
