I had to leave Facebook because it was causing me to have extreme hate for humans (even more than usual). I love a good debate, but I find that 95% of humans hate having their ideas/opinions challenged in any way, hate logic, and simply won't/can't debate. All they do is offer insults and threats of violence. I find this pathetic. Once my refusal to insult an opponent caused me to be accused of having a, "dry style of debate." What a loser.
While I'm talking about things that piss me off, here's some things that irrationally irritate me to no end:
When people write, "could of" when they should write "could've." I've seen this in scholarly published books; come on now, WTF!
When people say or write, "try and" when they should say or write, "try to." This just turns a sentence into nonsense.
When people confuse the words, "then" and, "than." Their two words with different meanings.
When people say or write, "same difference," when they mean "same thing," or, "no difference." At best this could be a comparison of differences (a phrase of dubious worth, as it would seldom need to be used), at worst, and most often, it is simply, again, nonsense.
If any of you make these errors, let it be known that I am aware that this is just an informal forum where this sort of thing isn't a big deal, and I know that these things shouldn't irritate me as much as they do. Just the ravings of a mad man . . .

I´ve been enjoying the raised activity levels around here, i´m sure others too. Seems like things have gotten bit more busy and it´s not just you. Could be that i´ve been visiting here only 1-2 times a day so it only seems like that to me though.

Oh no i didn´t mean it like that, usually playing faster and more aggressive will require bit higher strings.. you mentioning it just got me going on a jibba jabba spree about my recent bass endeavours and what i´ve done to adjust my play style. You do whatever suites you m8, and indeed if the strings are buzzing it´s not good. Might of course be that the frets need leveling, or one or two frets need a bit of tapping in too. But i´m sure whoever you bring it to can see to that.
Fixing guitar/bass electronics is actually quite easy to do, and if you have some basic soldering skills you are set. It´s actually quite fun to do a little project like that when the mood hits. Sorry about your friend.. I was talking to a friend about some issues the other day.. and he gave me the best advice ever. He just said "write a song about it!". That got me in to the mood for actually drawing inspiration from things that would usuall hold me back. Anyway.. i hope you find your inspiration too. Music is extremely therapeutic.
Talking about electronics and project.. i finished my Squier strat project that i basically swapped all the parts except body and neck, did a bit of painting and swapped the electronics. It has 2 humbuckers now with a 3-way switch and volume pot. Got rid of the tone entirely. It´s my best sounding guitar and i´m very happy with the result.

Awesome news. Glad you like the bass, and that you got to try the other one, just to feel the difference.
I know I said this before, but I'd recommend a small practice amp to start, even a guitar amp will be fine. Just something to play through and learn. You should be able to pick one up for cheap. The good thing about that is, it won't put you out a ton of money, and you can always use it at home even if you wind up buying a larger amp and playing with other musicians.
Passive pickups are basically just electromagnets. Active pickups need batteries. They usually have higher output than passives, so an active/passive switch generally cuts the gain going into the amp to compensate for that.

More to the point, there's a place for it - here in the promo section. When someone posts their band in the introduction section or one of the discussion threads, that's a good sign that they didn't take the time to read through the forum at all. It's OK; not everybody has the time, and I suppose for a lot of people this is just one more place to drop a link. It's not necessarily duplicitous. I don't have any problem with this OP, just wish they would've put it in the right section and maybe described their music with a touch more detail.
It irritates me more when people try to be clever and sneaky about it ("I've just discovered this band and I'm obsessed!", "Can't figure out what genre this is!", etc), or spam the board with duplicate posts; that winds up being counterproductive. "Promoting the shit out of it" isn't an effective strategy here. I'd even say that "looking for an effective strategy" isn't a particularly effective strategy. Better to be frank about it, describe yourselves and your music, and then stick around or move on as you see fit.
I often think of this place as an ongoing listening party at a local pub. We're hanging out with our friends in various corners, talking about music and life; sometimes people wander in to ask directions, or play something terrible on the jukebox, or blunder around the place trying to get everyone's attention or sell bootleg DVDs. Occasionally we have to boot a drunk. If you hang around for long enough, we'll hold your seat for you when you're out. Leave a CD at the bar, and maybe we'll put it on if the mood strikes. That kind of thing.

Good luck to anyone hoping this guy will be back now he's promoted his band.  Hate it when newbs do this, drop in under the guise of an intro thread (where this thread started life until the Mods correctly shifted it) and then invite us to get to know their band.  Tell you what you get to know us and we'll see if your band is up to anything then.  Community here folks!

Parker gave a Damn to Requiem in Extreme Vocals
It's probably no secret that I'm a strong advocate for lyrics. I think they're a very significant part of my musical experiences - I wouldn't argue more so than the actual music, which is obviously the whole point of, well, music - and the stories, sentiments and poetry found in good lyrics really helps the entire experience.
A culinary analogy might be that music is the food, and lyrics are the wine. Each is fine alone, but mandatory together when fine dining. I'm a big fan of wine, by the way.
I think my love for lyrics was born from two places. The first is the inevitable pre-internet era, where to listen to music largely meant sitting in my bedroom alone reading the lyrics in the liner notes of cassettes, then CDs, as the music played. There was no surfing the net, or listening to mp3s at the goddamn bus station. In this way I connected to those albums like I rarely do today. Also, I love literature and writing in general, so I'm drawn to the written word and find great value in it when done well.
As to the actual point of the thread(!), I tend to find it small-minded when people complain that they don't like the vocals because they can't understand the words. My father has actually said this very thing to me. I'll point to the original poster's example of opera, or old church music like Gregorian chant. There is clearly no necessary correlation between understanding the sounds and enjoying the aural quality of the sounds.

Parker gave a Damn to BlutAusNerd in Do bands evolve more slowly these days compared with the past?
It seems to me that extreme metal genres especially attracted a very experimental crowd when it was in its infancy. All of the bands above were breaking new ground both when they debuted and as they evolved. It's sad to me that most evolved into something uninspired and bland pretty quickly, but they still left us a nice legacy. BTW, I would add Ulver to this list, change Katatonia's debut from doom/death to doom/black metal, and fix the name of Anathema's debut album (Serenades, not Sleepless, that was the single).
