Autumn's favorite food is hot dogs, so she requested that we get them for her birthday. There's a gourmet hot dog place by our house that is great for all of us. I got their Pig Lebowski, a polska kielbasa with fries, coleslaw, and barbecue sauce on a kings Hawaiian roll with chili cheese fries. Yes, I need to start hitting the gym again asap.

Fuck yeah, hope you guys enjoy the show! Bölzer was outstanding at MDF 2014, and Mayhem was also excellent when playing their De Mysteriis set.

I must have missed those the first time. King Parrot is pretty good live, but Psycroptic didn't do much for me.

I agree, Unquestionable Presence is my favorite old tech death album, and my 2nd favorite Floridian death metal album behind Altars of Madness. It's a masterpiece, and I don't get why he isn't into it.

That's ridiculous, I wonder why they're gouging so much? The cheapest one I've seen is here, but several other sites have it for around $12-13:

Nosferatu is great. Max Schreck is wonderfully creepy, even though the silent film style is silly from a modern perspective.

Nice list, there are some favorites there in The Shining and The Thing.

I'm not familiar with all of those, but the few that I've seen are pretty good. I'm not so much into the modern torture porn Hostel type stuff, but Martyrs is a pretty good film in that vein that actually possesses a story and some sense of atmosphere. I wouldn't call anything by David Lynch horror, despite how creepy and weird it can be, but he is one of my favorite directors. I prefer Hitchcock's suspense flicks to Psycho, but the man was a genius, so I can't argue with its inclusion. It was the first horror movie that I saw when I was a kid, and it scared the piss out of the 5 year old BAN.

BlutAusNerd given a Damn from MacabreEternal in Metal going mainstream?
Aside from a few acts that cross over, the only acts that became mainstream from the "metal" world were bands who weren't metal at all. Various kinds of pop music with watered down elements have been misrepresenting the metal genre to the mainstream throughout the years, while metal itself has persevered, diversified, and grown over time. As much as I would love for my favorite artists to get more attention and sales from the masses, it's just never going to happen. It is what it is, and I'm fine with it remaining mostly underground.

Their first 6 albums were pillars of innovation and excellence. When Dio joined, it seemed like the jumped onto the more standard 80's metal bandwagon sound. Dio is a killer vocalist, but Sabbath had stopped pioneering at that point and just became one of the pack instead of the leaders.

Sacramentum - Dawn of the Dying Sun

Winter crawled into bed with me this morning and made her usual request for black metal, so this was our listening selection for the occasion. Her first response was "wow, I can't play the drums that fast!"

    Incantation - Profane Nexus
    Morbid Angel - Kingdoms Disdained
    Beherit - At the Devil's Studio 1990
    Shah - Terror Collection
Altar/Cartilage - Ex Oblivone/The Fragile Concept of Affection

The Morbid Angel album was a gift. I wouldn't buy it based on what I've heard from it, but I guess it's worth a shot if I'm not out anything by listening to it.

Blessing In Disguise and The Human Factor are great. They were moving in a less heavy direction, but the songwriting improved, and Mike's vocals made them sound a lot more mature. Sometimes I want that raw attack of the first two albums, but I reach for the third and fourth albums just as much.

Welcome. I'm not crazy about most modern European power metal, but I do love the older stuff and especially enjoy 80's American power metal. One of the few things that makes me feel patriotic is my country's long and fruitful history with nearly every metal genre, I just wish that power and thrash metal didn't die here in the early 90's. Hope you find some music you enjoy here.

Manowar isn't really power metal, despite influencing it a great deal. I do love their early stuff though. There are a lot of heavy/power metal recommendations in the "great albums" thread pinned to the top of the Power Metal genre section in this site, so you can check out a lot of the American bands that pioneered the power metal sound there if you feel so inclined. Stuff like early Savatage, Jag Panzer, Helstar, Vicious Rumors, Liege Lord, Crimson Glory, etc... are some of my favorites in the genre and are worth at least hearing once. I can't say that I hate the European sound, I just wish modern bands had a bit more teeth like Running Wild and Blind Guardian.

I'm not certain of the reason, but power metal just doesn't seem that inclined to incorporate native elements as other metal genres do. Other than folk metal bands, black and death metal groups seem to be the most adventurous in this way. I'm sure that it could be cool in power metal if it was well done, maybe some bands are doing this now and just aren't on many people's radar.
