Yeah..that's one of the side projects of Ayloss from Spectral Lore. Agree that it's a solid release. If you dig this release, you might like his Mystras stuff as well.

If there was any kind of progression behind it, instead of just wholesale direction changes, but right now it just feels like someone constantly throwing random ideas at the wall.

Auriferous Flame - Ardor for Black Mastery
This scratches the black metal itch.   The riffs are great. The production is pretty tight for the modern genre.  However, there is enough play in the intensity, speed/space, often building or sweeping you into another.  I'd skip over track 3, at least for first listen.
I personally kind of enjoy the call it experimentation.

DIdn't want to open a new thread so this fits here quite allright.
I was at a metal fest last weekend. Best performances of the weekend:
    1. Vomitory
Tight, hard edged death metal. Great machine!
    2. Batushka
    The numinous one. Best atmosphere.
    3.  I am morbid (Morbid angel)
Always reliable legends. Sandoval and Vincent are still kicking it.
    4. Impaled nazarene
Grinding punkish old school black/death metal. Still not slowing down.
    5. Suicide angels
The black horse. Thrash metal from Greece. They had the inside stage and they owned it. Better show than Sodom. I don't know if I will ever listen to them on record, but great live band.
Sodom, Dark funeral, Emperor, Watain were business as usual.
Out of my taste but still listenable. Before the dawn, Bloodred hourglass, Leprous.
I missed Asagraum and Chamber of Unlight, but that's okay. I see them in other bm gigs anyway.

Gonna pass on the Maiden set and wait for Black Metal Monopoly with real Norwegian street names and all the tokens are based on real church burning black metallers with authentic corpsepaint.

just as a follow up.  I'd say Soundstage's trial on doing a fest inside and outside the club in the block off street was a pretty big success in my opinion.  Beats the hell out of having to walk up and back to the Edison lot and allows for in and out so you can get food where you want.  There was also shade in various places to be had outside.  I often sat in the bar tent on the provided folding chairs sipping a beer, especially when I was only mildly interested in who was playing.
Saw 23 sets in all.  Some major highlights for me were Outer Heaven, Hulder (who killed it as the closer), S'bogg, Spectral Wound and Dying Fetus (sounding better than I'd heard them before).    Lots of bands were  first for me, and some surprises were Cloak, Devil Master (fun despite me having to laugh at their capes).
Plenty of other sets I enjoyed, but may not rush to see again.  I missed a few I wished I caught (e.g. Tombs), but I'm old and there is only so much I could last.

LMK if you are going Surge and I'll say hi, maybe grab a beer.  A lot of your picks are mine as well.   I've never seen CC live, so even though I've never been a fan I am a bit intrigued to see at least part of their set.

    Hulder
    Vomit Forth
    Undeath
Spectral Wound (last time I saw them the mix was awful, all vocals no guitar, so want to see it better)
    Outer-Heaven
    curious to see 'Bogg live
last time I saw Napalm Death I quite enjoyed them

JorKid gave a Damn to JonoBlade in Some of your favorite post-black/blackgaze bands?
What Surge said, but without the steel wool underdaks, because I liked them myself - even more so because the true and grim hated them. But as @Thatguy says, the latest album does suck. Not in the sense that it is terrible music....it is just nothing. It literally elicits no emotional reaction at all. I am listening to it right now to try and recapture its unmemorableness. Rarely has a band fallen so far in my book.
Which I guess must mean the necro lords were right to hate them from the beginning. But it doesn't change that they did three good albums before collapsing in a heap of hipster mediocrity.
I think, delving into my psyche, the reason I liked them is that the music reminded me of going to see an indie band at university, which were a dime-a-dozen, but it suddenly ripping into a blast beat, tremolo picking and screaming vocals....which is what I so often wished would happen at all those shitty gigs.

I heard the title track a few times on Sirius's Liquid Metal channel while visiting my family in Washington.  It is a huge meh.  I don't think I'll bother listening to more.

JorKid given a Damn from CentipedeAbyss in Your feelings towards driving
I lived in the NYC area for 12 years, 5 of which I lived in Manhattan.  I barely drove inside Manhattan when I lived there preferring mass transit.  In fact I sold my car when I moved from the west coast.   I lived in LA for a summer (in SoCal for 6 years) and drove everyday and that traffic from I-5 to the 10 sucked!  Almost as bad is I84 in downtown Portland.  That city grew way faster than the city planned.
Traffic here in Toronto is pretty horrible as well, and the road conditions are awful too.  The city/province collects a shit-ton of taxes that never seem to materialize into anything good, be it on socialized health care (which is piss poor regardless of what they tell you), infrastructure projects, etc.   They just seem to start project and spend endless amounts of money that don't ever finish.  If the same happened in NYC, there would be mass riots.
Back to traffic...  I've driven in dozens of different countries on at least 3 different continents.  I'd never want to drive in urban India, that is for sure!  I've driven in Manhattan and it isn't scary it is just insufferably slow with congested.  It takes hours to get out of the city on a long weekend.
I prefer to drove in the woods these days.

I would assume that MegaDave knows how this works and just says stuff to the media to get the talk going again.  Cheap advertisement to help sales.  No such thing as bad publicity and all.

JorKid gave a Damn to AlSymerz in Dave Mustaine Says Metallica Tried to Hold Megadeth Back
To some degree that would probably be right, he knows how to manipulate the media. But at the same time there has been plenty of times he's had a slip of the tongue, or dropped the wrong thing at the wrong time. Happened as recently as 12 months ago when he went on his rant about Metallica not paying him, how wrong it was and how he'd never not pay what he owes some one. Then three months after the album is released it's revealed the artist is taking Megadeth Inc to court for not paying him for the new cover.

This is my late to the party list.  I was working a ton and didn't listen to as many releases as typical, but still managed to find some I thought were quite good.  I find it hard to rank albums that are very different in style, but I rank them based on how much I played them on repeat.
    1) Worm - Bluenothing (EP)
    2) Phobophilic - Enveloping Absurdity
    3) Daeva – Through Sheer Will and Black Magic
    4) Wormrot - Hiss
    5) Tomb Mold – Aperture of Body (EP)
    6) Immolation – Acts of God
    7) Undeath – It’s Time… To Risk From the Grave

JorKid given a Damn from Thatguy in Metal festivals have become ridiculous
I know this thread is an old one but I will echo Surg & Navy's sentiment.  MDF was an amazing festival.  I did 27 sets across 4 days.  I missed out on most of the wee hour shows as I was too beat and generally too beer soaked by then and would just go back to the hotel and crash.
However, many of the time I have seen bands that I wouldn't have normally gotten a chance to see were at festivals.  Emperor in Heavy Montreal, Demilich, Triptykon at MDF, Entombed AD at Montebello Rockfest, etc.  Makes it worth it.   At Heavy Montreal and Montebello Rockfest, my girlfriend would go sit in the grass beside the crowd under a tree and I would come join her every once in a while.   You could still hear and sometimes even see the set while still resting.

I much prefer my [old] Senn HD200s for comfort from all of my cans and I also prefer to listen to my system instead of cans.  That being said, for blutooth IE headphones, the Sony XM4s I like, except for the bulk which makes me insecure they will fall out.  They sound really good though.

I have owned a few Etymotics and those, despite all the hype were just intolerable imo.  The most uncomfortable POSs and absolutely the thinnest sounding cans I've ever heard.
