  1. I just can't. Ironbound was great but everything else is just a vapid faceless clone of it. As for Havok, Conformicide is an awesome album. Nick Schendzielos's bass work is phenomenal and reminds me of Steve DiGiorgio, Tony Choy and Roger Patterson (RIP). His performance was sorely missed on V.
  2. Here's an unpopular thought: I much prefer the clean vocal version of Paradise Lost than the growl vocal version. The clean vocals just suit the music more. Plus Nick Holmes generally does a better Hetfield than Hetfield!
  3. Thatguy, que?!? Gama Bomb - Speed Between the Lines - great music but geez their lyrics are inane. Kreator - Coma of Souls Metal Church - Blessing In Disguise - RIP Mike Howe Overkill - Horrorscope Twisted Sister - Under The Blade
  4. Absolute beast of an album.
  5. WN I was listening to Metal Church 20 years ago so I suspect I will be listening to them in 20 years time too. I also still listen to Guns N Roses and Metallica despite first getting into them 30 years ago. I don't generally grow out of music though I do add new stuff occasionally. Been digging latest LIK album even though it is a Dismember clone Same opinion on Slipknot - indeed I just wrote them of as nu-metal shit back when slef titled came out but grew to respect them begrudgingly even though am not a fan of most of their music. Massively influential and a big gateway drug to metaldon for many in last 20 years. As for Afghanistan let the graveyard of empires do whatever the hell its people want regardless of western sensibilities.
  6. I love the album. Well written, very catchy, very riffy, great production, awesome performances. I know it's not your cup of tea especially as you regard most things save Kvlt Trve Black Metal as garbage.
  7. Ex Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison has passed away aged 46! No cause of death but it's noted he has previously a condition called "acute transverse myelitis, an inflammation of the spinal cord which damages nerve fibers, which ultimately led to the drummer temporarily losing the use of his legs." https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/former-slipknot-drummer-joey-jordison-dead-at-46/ Love them or hate them, there's no denying Joey was a damn good drummer and if nothing, Slipknot did revive the mainstream world's interest in more extreme music (I would argue the popularity of melodic DM and NWOAHM, commercial rebirth of DM and TM were down to Slipknot pushing a much heavier version of nu-metal - indeed Iowa is extreme metal by most accounts.
  8. Some sad news - Metal Church vocalist Mike Howe has passed away aged 55. Cause is unspecified. Be sure to crank Blessing In Disguise. RIP https://www.blabbermouth.net/news/metal-church-singer-mike-howe-dead-at-55/
  9. New Iron Maiden "Senjatsu" out 3 September ! Really like the single they've released from it despite a more folksy vibe.
  10. I used to love melodic DM but got sick of it by 2004-05 - too oversaturated and too artistically stagnant. Still listen to classics ala Arch Enemy (prefer Johan Liiva era), Carcass' later stuff, At the Gates, early In Flames, early Children of Bodom and Dark Tranquillity and occasionally Arsis, Darkane, Opeth and Kalmah as well as some others.
  11. I am rather boring: Bolt Thrower Carcass Edge of Sanity Entombed/Entombed A.D. - RIP LG! Morbid Angel (first 5 albums)
  12. As you don't care much for thrash or crossover thrash, it would probably be a waste of time listening to it,
  13. Only Mr Bungle I like. I really do have to get off my fat arse and get it. Asphyx - Last One On Earth
  14. Darkthrone - Eternal Hails - seems better than Old Star though not up there with Arctic Thunder. Death - Spiritual Healing Massacre - From Beyond Motorhead - Rock 'n' Roll Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black Pestilence - Testimony of the Ancients And randomly came across this - Dust Bolt - Awake The Riot from 2014. Modern thrash metal. Quite decent! Old Metal-fiers will know I prefer this kind of mindless thrash over most other things.
  15. Death thrash! Very riffy and frantic with a hint of black metal later on, Exodus - Shovel Headed Kill Machine Slayer - Hell Awaits - The line " Your soul cannot be free not given the chance to rot in hell" on Necrophiliac always make me laugh! Mastodon - Once More 'Round The Sun - hated by many but I really like it.
  16. Bolt Thrower - Realms Of Chaos Immolation - Dawn of Possession.
  17. In mainly a melodic DM mood over the weekend: Amon Amarth - Twilight Of The Thunder God Arch Enemy - Stigmata Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done Iron Maiden - The Number of the Beast Metallica - Kill 'Em All Necrot - Mortal Opeth - Black Water Park Toxic Holocaust - Primal Future 2019 Vision of Disorder - Imprint
  18. I'd say it holds up to some of their early output but not classics like The Legacy or my personal favourite, Low. The one modern Testament album that IMO actually blows a lot of their old output out of the water is Dark Roots Of Earth. Awesome album!
  19. I like Helloween including 1990s stuff like Time Of The Oath but I've found much of their post -2000 output to have become a sad overproduced clone of themselves. Tracks from new album don't seem to be an improvement despite Kai Hansen and Michael Kiske being back.
  20. New Carcass track - much better than songs on Despicable EP (which I liked but it's not essential listening) Album is called Torn Arteries and is out on Nuclear Blast on 17-09-21.
  21. Dead1

    Alestorm

I don't mind them in moderate doses. A bit of light hearted fun. I couldn't listen to multiple albums in one sitting though.
  22. This is a phenomenal album. Shame they immediately turned too poo on the next one. Only one of their more modern albums I like is Exit Wounds.
  23. That's an actual band name? Hilarious! Bathory - Blood Fire Death Megadeth - Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good
