Strawberry given a Damn from Skadi in Top 10 Gothic Metal Albums
Gothic metal is the best sub genre of metal and anyone who says otherwise is 100 percent wrong lol. here are my top ten favourite gothic metal albums.
10: Irreligious by MoonSpell. So many bands have tried to copy the magic of this album and failed. Set the standard for what would come in the gothic metal sub genre.
9: Aegis by Theatre of Tragedy. So much has already been said about this that I'll only say it's all killer no filler on this amazing album.
8: Godspeed on the Devil's thunder by Cradle Of Filth. I know it's technically a black metal album but it has so much gothic melody in it that how could I not put in this list.
7: Love Metal by HIM. Got lots of people into gothic metal did this album and with good reason as it's a corker.
6: Once by Nightwish. If this album only contained the song Nemo then it would still be a masterpiece. Planet Hell is also an amazing song from this album. The band would never again come close to the greatness they achieved on this album.
5: What lies beneath by Tarja Turunen. After she was sacked from Nightwish Tarja went on to have a great solo career while her old band went down hill, fast. This album is the jewel in her glittering solo career.
4: The dreadful hours by My Dying Bride. This is my favourite album by My Dying Bride as it contains so much gothic melody and beauty within the album. The song Le figle della tempesta is such a beautiful gothic metal song for those who say this band is not gothic metal.
3: Unleashed memories by Lacuna Coil. This album has on it the song When a dead man walks so need I say more. A beautiful album by my all time favourite band.
2: Jade by flowing Tears. A very underrated album indeed. The lead singer left after this album and the band have since changed their name. No matter how hard the band try they will never come up with a more beautiful album than this. The song Under the red is a highlight from this album for sure.
1: October rust by Type O Negative. Could it really be anything else? Of course not. My all time favorite album. I got a lot of hate from Type O Negative fans for liking this album in the 90's and early 2000's but their hate only made my love for this album grow stronger as it was like only I could see the beauty in this album where others over looked it. Since Peter's death I noticed a lot more people have started to love this album too which is great. If only they could of loved this album as much as I did when Peter was alive.

Strawberry given a Damn from SatansHollowRegular in Why some people like (,or dislike) Nu metal?
I love nu metal. Most people tend to think or Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit first when anyone mentions nu metal which is a shame as there are some great bands in the sub genre like One Minute Silence, Mushroomhead, Ill Nino, Flaw, Deftones and Soulfly. Because it went mainstream in the late 90's and early 2000's some metal fans can not like it because they are programmed like robots (no free mind of there own) to hate everything that is mainstream.

The band Magnum often get overlooked in discussions like this so I'll mention them here. On a storyteller's night is a great album.

Believe in nothing is a great album and contains the bands best song Mouth which is a gothic metal masterpiece. If the band did not play Mouth live then riots would start at their gigs lol.

Strawberry given a Damn from blaaacdoommmmfan in Hair metal/ Glam metal
Motley Crue, WASP, Guns & Roses, Poison (yes Poison, Every rose has a thorn was a great song) LA Guns, Ratt and Def Leppard all made the glam metal scene rock.

Macro by the Ukrainian band Jinjer. This has the best modern metal band around today. Their lead singer Tatiana Shmailyuk is an amazing vocalist and can do those extreme metal vocals better than most men.
Bad taste in music? I'm joking. I find anything Metallica have done to be highly overrated.

Strawberry given a Damn from blaaacdoommmmfan in Who are your current top 5 bands?
My Dying Bride: Doom metal legends
The Gazette: Japanese metal band who dress in the visual kei style that's popular amongst japanese metal bands.
Versailles: Another stellar Japanese metal band who dress in the visual kei style. I really wish that western metal bands took their style as seriously as this band do.
Jinjer: A metal band from Ukraine who has a female lead singer who can do extreme metal vocals better than most men can.
Lacuna Coil: Italian gothic metal legends who are my all time favourite band.

On a day where Mastodon have said they have to claim unemployment to survive I feel your chances are slim to zero to be honest.  Not trying to sound unkind, just being honest.  Good luck though.

Anthems of rebellion by Arch Enemy: I don't listen to anything new this band do since they changed lead singer. The best melodic death metal album ever made in my view.
Follow the leader by Korn: Not my favourite Korn album and I very rarely listen to it when I want some Korn on the Hi-fi separates system but it will always hold a special place in my heart.
The colour and the shape by Foo Fighters: Not a big fan of this band but I do really love this album. Just a great rock radio friendly album.
Hybrid theory by Linkin Park: I disliked everything the band did after this album but I'll admit I really like this album.
Freak show by Silverchair: Everything the band did after this album was just not for me but this album is where I go when I need that mix of punk and metal known as grunge.
Unto the locust by Machine Head: This band just seem to copy what is big in the heavy metal scene at the time when they go to make a new album. Thrash metal is big lets make some thrash metal albums, nu metal is big let's make some nu metal albums, New wave of American heavy metal is big let's make some of albums in that style. I wish the band would just choose an style of metal and stick with it. Anyway this is the only Machine Head album I need as it's the only one I like. Such a great album.

I would say now for me the fan. I've got so much choice on steaming and download sites. In the past getting smaller band music was harder but now thanks to streaming and download sites its alot easier.

I have the Roundhouse Tapes on double CD by Opeth which is a live gig record at London in 2007 and on there Åkerfeldt says before playing one of the slower non heavy songs "This is the song that is going to get us laid backstage." So yes he did have a sense of humor. Ghost Reveries would be my second favourite Opeth album and Blackwater park my third.

Well, you'll get no argument from me about Still Life, I think it's a phenomenal album. It came out while I was in college and it was a constant companion for painting and drawing class, lots of great memories. I love everything up through Ghost Reveries. I think the first time I saw them was right around Blackwater Park, and I was lucky enough to see them with Nevermore as well as a couple of times with Katatonia. Absolutely awesome. I even liked their newer stuff in a live context, although I don't connect with the albums. I wouldn't take Åkerfeldt joking about the lyrics as evidence that their older stuff was black metal, though, especially considering his goofy sense of humor onstage. They always considered themselves to be part of the death metal scene. I hear lots of similarities between melodic black metal and melodic death metal from that era, but they don't have any more in common with black metal than the other bands on the melodic side of death metal that were coming up around the same time.

Thanks strawberry 🍓 for suggestions. Hope you get some good metal chat on here and discover some good bands.  suicide silence like nu metal enough to do a nu metal record in there self titled album so your not alone in your appreciation of genre. Although I've not listened to it but remember reading about it. 😆
