Will do, cheers for the recommendation.

Ha, Mustaine is a contender for sure. And Benton. And Anselmo for that matter. And the guy from Malevolent Creation who told Obama to 'go back to Islam'. But yeah, Varg might win. What a headcase. Still fond of his early albums though - Burzum/Aske, Det Som Engang Var, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, Filosofem. I interviewed him once upon a time actually, for a fanzine...

What do people think of Phil Anselmo's new project then?
  4. I remember buying Handle With Care on tape once upon a time, that takes me back... Can't say I ever really got into them though, the vocals are probably a bit high for me.
  5. I discovered the first two albums by Xentrix today, a band I'd certainly heard of back in the day but never really investigated.
  6. Megadeth - Rust in Peace Slayer - South of Heaven Sepultura - Arise Metallica - And Justice For All Metallica - Master of Puppets Slayer - Reign in Blood Kreator - Coma of Souls Megadeth - Countdown to Extinction Sepultura - Beneath the Remains Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss
  7. The last band I'd seen at that venue was Morbid Angel and they were f*cking brilliant, so in fairness I'd perhaps just set the bar too high.

Can't say I'm very knowledgeable. Have investigated quite a lot of bands over the years, but Evoken are the only one that have really done it for me. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
  9. To give you some idea of my taste, favourite bands are Death, Carcass, Obituary & Bolt Thrower. I don't like it too technical or extreme, and I do need some melody in there. Also - I'm not religious, but satanic bands tend to turn me off. Death metal is therefore a bit of a minefield for me! Any recommendations are much appreciated. ____ moved to main recs thread 03/17 - FA

Guess not. I just think they've had enough going for them for long enough to have transcended the narrow funeral doom genre a lot more by now.
  11. I did familiarise myself, not least to convince myself they had enough good tracks to make going worthwhile. I'd certainly heard some of their stuff before too, many years ago. They weren't bad or anything, just a bit mediocre.

Why aren't they more popular? Consistently good since 1998.
  13. I went to see them play in April, can't say I was blown away.
  14. My personal favourites... AGENT ORANGE - Title Track, Tired and Red, Remember the Fallen, Magic Dragon, Exhibition Bout, Baptism of Fire M16 - Title Track, Napalm In The Morning SODOM - Blood On Your Lips, Wanted Dead, City of God, Axis of Evil DECISION DAY - Title Track, Rolling Thunder, Strange Lost World, Belligerence
  15. I saw Lost Society support Exodus recently, thought they had a lot of potential...
  16. I see. Will have to investigate more of their other projects then!
  17. Yeah, the bassist and the other guitarist both seem like incredible musicians. And the singer is pretty cool really. Nothing against the drummer either. So why aren't they better? Just not great songwriters I guess.
  18. I've never really been into CC. Good documentary though, I basically just love watching documentaries about metal bands full stop. This is a lot more up my street for sure anyway.
  19. I'm liking that Solstice album by the way, thanks for the recommendation. Funnily enough I looked it up just the other day, having heard someone mention it/them on a Cannibal Corpse documentary. I'm liking it a lot more on second listen though, might have to buy it.
  20. Yeah, points taken. Perhaps it's the Morrisound connection making me feel that way now you mention it, because Beer Advocate's right about the vocals really. In any case, I'll accept it's thrash
