hammer fall!

Recommended Posts

Re: hammer fall! Well, they're my second favorite band. For goodness sake, they introduced me to power metal! They made me like the whole genre. Sadly, Last Man Standing is, perhaps, their last song standing. No Sacrifice, No Victory was a shambles and I don't think Infection is much better, although at least they're back to their old melodic roots. But a concept album based on zombies? No. We want more of Renegade, dang it! Or that one song...the song which should be a power metal anthem... HEARTS ON FIRE, HEARTS ON FIRE... Oh yes. Bring us back to those days ye Swedish crusaders. Bring us the goofy stage behavior or Joachim Cans and Anders Johansson. Bring us the tacky aluminum foil pants of Stefan Elmgren. Heed the words of your own song, Destined for Glory: Fight with your heart and you're destined for glory But fight without soul and you will lose it all You haven't lost it all, HammerFall. You can rebound from this. Elvenking recovered from 'The Scythe'. if they can recover from that travesty, you can. :)

Re: hammer fall!

Probably my least favourite of the more "power"-y power metal bands. Too hollywood-y' date=' I suppose.[/quote'] Which albums have you heard? Anything off of 'No Sacrifice, No Victory' is going to be Hollywood-y rubbish. 'Blood Bound' was bad too. Otherwise, from 'Glory To the Brave' all the way to 'Crimson Thunder' is good music. But no one, NO ONE, will outdo Terasbetoni. They're not really so technical...at all. I love them anyway, anytime one of my teammates won something at a Speech and Debate tournament I always wanted to put on 'Voittamaton' really loud. Apparently 'Taivas Lyo Tulta' was also the Finnish hockey team's goal song.

Re: hammer fall! Well, not bad, but definitely not my style at all. I know Dronjak was in it... But if I'm going to listen to doom/death metal I'll probably listen to My Silent Wake or a little Pantokrator.

Re: hammer fall!

Hammerfall have some great songs' date=' Legacy of kings was an amazing album and they put on a great live show![/quote'] THAT they do! I've only ever seen videos. Speaking of which, have you ever seen the curling video for 'Hearts on Fire' ? I also like the fact they can write good riffs that aren't mind-blowingly complicated. I can play the intro to Templars of Steel and A Legend Reborn on guitar. :)

Re: hammer fall!

Hearts On Fire is probably my favorite power metal song. Imagine my disappointment when No Sacrifice, No Victory came out right after that. I'd say that album was All Sacrifice, No Victory. Any Means Necessary probably had the laziest, most anticlimactic chorus I've ever heard. They just mumble it, for goodness' sake.

Agreed. It seemed to me that they put all of thier efforts into Crimson Thunder (which is my favourite album from HF) and made the other album without putting many effort on it. Despite that, some tunes from NS NV are really good IMO, like "Hallowed Be My Name", "One of a Kind" and "Punish And Enslave". Gw82eQV_kyg

Re: hammer fall! The irony to me is that the bridge on 'Any Means Necessary' is actually more epic than the chorus. Ah well. I'm going to miss Stefan Elmgren and Magnus Rosen; they had great stage presence and seemed to be enjoying themselves. At least the band is recovering; Infected really isn't that bad, but the lyrics are somewhat lame. I just hope they go back to swordfighting...maybe write a concept album about some medieval tale. One thing I do know: hammerfall-172424.jpg I WANT THIS HOODIE. \m/

Re: hammer fall! Heck yeah. \m/ That's how it should be, not this scratched-up, primal paint logo they've got for their Infected album. The hammer with the Legacy of Kings HF logo...that be win right thar.

Re: hammer fall! I understand...having long hair makes it a bit annoying wearing a hoodie, especially if your oily hair gives you really bad acne. :( I actually saw HammerFall shorts for sale. 6208243-origpic-9a0552.jpg Dead serious.

Re: hammer fall!

i never really wear shorts :P yea having really really long hair and hoodies dont mix to well  cant say its cause any acne problems tho, i have my hair swept back most the time
Amen to that. I prefer jeans unless shorts are much more comfortable, depending on the weather. I would prefer a HammerFall longsleeve, or even their BDU. 1458289-origpic-d241d1.gif_0_0_100_100_300_390_95.gif1458289-origpic-821aec.gif

Re: hammer fall!

Shorts? With my legs? HammerFall fan here - by the way, "Blood Bound" was the first song I heard by them and I was hooked. Mind you, I got into so many bands after hearing one song.
I tried that with Pathosray until I found out that 'Scent of Snow' was their only really superlative song. EDIT I was wrong. Pathosray's self-titled album is the shiznit. Almost all of the songs on there are good.

    • Whichever tier of thrash metal you consigned Sacred Reich back in the 80's/90's they still had their moments.  "Ignorance" & "Surf Nicaragura" did a great job of establishing the band, whereas "The American Way" just got a little to comfortable and accessible (the title track grates nowadays) for my ears.  A couple more records better left forgotten about and then nothing for twenty three years.  2019 alone has now seen three releases from Phil Rind and co.  A live EP, a split EP with Iron Reagan and now a full length.

Notable addition to the ranks for the current throng of releases is former Machine Head sticksman, Dave McClean.  Love or hate Machine Head, McClean is a more than capable drummer and his presence here is felt from the off with the opening and title track kicking things off with some real gusto.  'Divide & Conquer' and 'Salvation' muddle along nicely, never quite reaching any quality that would make my balls tingle but comfortable enough.  The looming build to 'Manifest Reality' delivers a real punch when the song starts proper.  Frenzied riffs and drums with shots of lead work to hold the interest.

There's a problem already though (I know, I am such a fucking mood hoover).  I don't like Phil's vocals.  I never had if I am being honest.  The aggression to them seems a little forced even when they are at their best on tracks like 'Manifest Reality'.  When he tries to sing it just feels weak though ('Salvation') and tracks lose real punch.  Give him a riffy number such as 'Killing Machine' and he is fine with the Reich engine (probably a poor choice of phrase) up in sixth gear.  For every thrashy riff there's a fair share of rock edged, local bar act rhythm aplenty too.

Let's not poo-poo proceedings though, because overall I actually enjoy "Awakening".  It is stacked full of catchy riffs that are sticky on the old ears.  Whilst not as raw as perhaps the - brilliant - artwork suggests with its black and white, tattoo flash sheet style design it is enjoyable enough.  Yes, 'Death Valley' & 'Something to Believe' have no place here, saved only by Arnett and Radziwill's lead work but 'Revolution' is a fucking 80's thrash heyday throwback to the extent that if you turn the TV on during it you might catch a new episode of Cheers!
