  1. You could say similar things about Transformers or Star Trek or any other fictional universe that seems to inspire practical philosophy amongst its nerds. As far as Star Wars, I never got deep into it although I read quite a few of the books when I was a teenager. The more blatant the profit motive became, and the more shallow and flashy the storytelling got, the less I cared. They're kid's movies and should be watched as such. The characterization in the newer movies was dreadful.
  2. Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery I guess North From Here got me in a mid 90s melodic DM mood...
  3. I like tuna, just never had it on a pizza. I'm going to have to try it with the onions and olives like Atrocity suggests, that actually sounds good.
  4. I've always been a huge sci-fi fan, can't help it. The first Star Trek movie was probably shot so nicely and expensively to try and put itself on a equal footing with Star Wars. What did you think of Star Wars (I assume you mean the first three films)?
  5. I haven't seen it yet. My wife and I want to get a babysitter so we can catch it before it's out of the theaters. I enjoyed the first "new" one, wasn't blown away by it but I wasn't insulted either, unlike some of my friends.
  6. Heh, yeah, I was being rhetorical. I can't stand any of their later stuff but I hadn't heard North From Here until about ten years ago - had always given it a miss because of everything else I had heard.
  7. @ Iceni - I've made no secret of it! Better to be above board about these things. At least I'm not an anime fan, anime fans are horrible people.
  8. Watched Star Trek: The Motion Picture last night, which I haven't seen since I was a kid. Beautifully shot, poorly acted, way too long. The special effects are mostly hilarious. I really love Star Trek, but I doubt I'll watch this movie again.
  9. Prejudicial Goblin Patrol
  10. Sentenced - North from Here Fuck, this album is so good. What happened to these guys?
  11. New CDs are so much cheaper now than they used to be - if I'm going to actually purchase a physical copy, I'd rather buy new for the artist's sake, considering they don't get anything from used sales. Definitely great for OOP stuff, though, that's how I got a lot of my Swans.
  12. Mitochondrion - Parasignosis I love a lot of new DM like this, but it's only good if I can give it my full attention.
  13. Wow, 20/10? No shit. That's awesome. I had very good vision when I was a kid, and it's still good enough for me to drive without glasses, but I'm a lot more comfortable with glasses or contacts - lots of astigmatism. A really scary thing happened to one of my co-workers - she permanently lost vision in one eye overnight due to "closed-angle glaucoma". Pressure built up and cut off the blood flow to the optic nerve. She didn't even know there was a problem. Yeesh.
  14. I listened to that right afterwards, and I have to agree. I haven't heard a lot of their stuff. It's odd, awkwardly written, but the guitars are awesome and I really liked the vocals on Min Tid Skal Komme. I heard that the pterodactyl they had hired for the EP wasn't available for the full-length, something about a mass extinction...
  15. Will - Furnace Rekindled darkwave/industrial, used to love this song... still do
  16. My Dying Bride - For Lies I Sire I haven't heard this before, liking it so far.
  17. Ah c'mon, "it's re-tin-OH-sa, not re-tin-o-SAAH..." No glasses either? Wow, that sounds really rough. I needed glasses in college but didn't get them until a few years ago. My vision's not too bad, but I still feel a lot better with them on.
  18. I hear you. I understand that every case develops a bit differently - my wife said she had a professor with pigmentitis retinosa (tell me that doesn't sound like a spell from Harry Potter), who had lost everything but the very center of his vision, but still saw 20/20 with glasses - just a tiny little spot in the middle, but he could read.
