  1. Never got into KMFDM. A lot of my friends seemed to love them. My favorite industrial album is probably Skinny Puppy's "Too Dark Park", followed closely by Ministry's "Land Of Rape And Honey", but I don't know that any of that would be to Iceni's taste. Die Form and Will had some cool tracks, as well, and for goth-industrial I've always enjoyed Deine Lakaien. To be honest, none of these guys are consistently good songwriters - it always seemed a plague of the industrial genre, that they'd concentrate on sounds, and never learn how to put a compelling song together, and the ones who did concentrate on songcraft often wound up leaching the interest out of their soundscapes and turning into shitty pop. Easy to draw parallels with metal in that regard.
  2. Oh, I see, your grim demeanor cowed her into temporary docility. You did leave your skinning knife at home this time?
  3. Joking aside, I'd have a hard time saying NIN "sucks", but whatever it is that people love about them, I don't hear it. I hear poppy, unfulfilling songs made out of parts I don't really care for, mostly with juvenile lyrics that I can't stand. I know I've said all that before. I could say the same thing about the couple albums of Marilyn Manson's that I've heard. There's nothing in there that keeps me looking for whatever it is that I've missed. I just don't like 'em. I've felt similarly about other bands in the past and then come to enjoy them, later on. I can't say that won't happen, but I'm not holding out any hope.
  4. Is this what Iceni really meant when he said you were "reserved"?
  5. @JBaker - To say that you deserve some of the punishment you so obviously crave is not to say that we need to pull out all the stops and actually be mean... but you are the guy who gave us the phrase "dude's voice oozes sex". I mean, if it's Vanessa talking about Pete Steele, it's understandable.
  6. They're terrible. Can't stand them. Of course we could have used NIN or the Chili Peppers in their stead. And I do love my kid very much, though not in the way I think you're suggesting...
  7. It's snowing really hard here, but that's par for the course. The only surprise is that the plows haven't come out yet, but maybe they're waiting til it dies down a bit. I hear Boston is getting it much worse.
  8. Looks a lot like that here, if you take away the hedges and general orderliness and add some crappy-looking buildings on either side.

  10. Yes! More lyrics! I still need to do music for the existent non-existent nothingness thing. I started on something but it turned into a retro-death track. I need to rescue it from the abyss by not taking it too seriously. Re: Opeth -it took me a while to get into them initially, and my appreciation of each album grew over the course of several listens. The most extreme case is Ghost Reveries, which I actively disliked for years, and then fell in love with several months ago. Don't expect it to all happen at once. And the clean/acoustic elements are a huge part of their sound, so you're pretty much stuck with embracing them, unless you just want to buy the heaviest tracks and ignore everything else. NP: Enslaved - Isa
  11. Re: What Are You Listening To? Still their best album IMO. But saying it reminds you of Mudvayne is like slapping the music gods in the face with a donkey dick. For shame!
  12. Eating: about to force down some Chinese food, spicy soup and noodles Drinking: I wish Listening: Katatonia - Viva Emptiness Doing: laying in bed with the worst cold I've had in a couple years Thinking: I was sick a lot when I was a kid. My son doesn't seem to have that problem. I'm glad he's ok, but what a ball of energy!
  13. Katatonia - Tonight's Decision This is the one that really got me into them.
  14. Re: What Are You doing? (Picture Version) I don't love all of their stuff, but if you can possibly try the World Wide Stout, it's a unique experience. That 12oz bottle can easily be split three ways. The 90 minute IPA is a classic, the 120 is a bit much. You may like Raison D'etre, it's a golden Belgian ale that I find a little too sweet these days, but used to really like.
