  1. Talking about Phil Swanson in another thread has put me on a binge. My favorite vocalist in metal atm. Briton Rites - Occulte Fantastique Vestal Claret - S/t from 2020 Hour of 13 - S/t (my second favorite of his stuff) Seamount - Lucifer's Bride Lords of Triumph - Reaching the End EP and of course the best thing he's been a part of - Sumerlands - S/t. Too bad he's not singing on the new one. This is a banger. I spin this 2-3 times a week at least. Never falls out of rotation.
  2. I looked for something on Youtube but couldn't find it. The songs from "The Hidden Folk" are on the Pnakotic Demos, but I'm not sure whether Phil is singing or not on that version. The split is The Hidden Folk/Two Stones.
  3. Unruly? That's an understatement.
  4. Was listening to this on Saturday. The playlist selections are pretty good. Hadn't heard Exhorder in ages. And anytime I get a chance to blast Hypnosia, I never miss it!
  5. The split with Vestal Claret which had Phil Swanson doing vocals for both bands was pretty good, mainly because I love Phil's vocals. Haven't heard anything else by them that I enjoyed, but they are a very talented band. Just not my cuppa tea.
  6. Better than I expected. Also this morning: Cryptic Evil - Blasphemous Salvation - Resistance Clandestine Blaze - Secrets of Laceration Odious Devotion - s/t Baphomet's Blood - In Satan We trust
  7. Sound and comfort. The Grados I've heard have weak bottom end the treble was too shiny. I know lots of people like them, but they just don't get along with my ears. Similarly, I found them uncomfortable. Granted, I hate on ears in general, but the Grado did nothing to convince me to overlook that.
  8. The Meze are fantastic cans that are very comfortable. I have mine setup with the Brainwavz pads and they are very comfortable. Build quality is excellent. Not sure if I would recommend them for studio work though. Might not be neutral enough, but then again, I eq mine to get them just the way I like them. Haven't tried them "flat" in a while. The Periodics on the other hand can be a little bassy if you eq them up, but I find that they sound best with no eq. Maybe a touch of treble boost depending on what I'm listening to. I do no recording stuff and I certainly don't have golden ears by any means. Never heard the Shures and I dislike detachable cables on iems myself (required on regular cans though).
  9. I've been asking the same question lately and I'm eyeing the same headphones right now. Basically the best open cans for metal under $500. Supposedly scale up well with amplification, but are fine just off a phone or DAP, neutral sound that responds well to EQ, and tight accurate bass. Everything the LCD-2 is known for in a cheaper package (except the LCD-2 requires a decent amp). Second one I'm considering is the Audeze LCD-2C. An updated version of my original LCD-2's. I love the sound of them but hate the comfort. Supposedly improved in the new model. They're twice the price of the Sundaras though and require an amp. The last one I would like to find are the Hyland Jupiter, but they are made to order in England. Not likely to get a chance to test those out. Others I've seen rec'd are the Modhouse Argon and the Grado Hemp. The Modhouse are difficult to get ahold of. I'm not a Grado fan. Long story short, the Sundaras are my recommendation based on my research. You can buy them off Amazon and get free returns if you don't like them. The Sony's are a classic. I know tons of people who swear by them. My favorite iems are the Periodic Be. Our buddy Mark (if he ever comes along) has experience with the Shures. If you were to replace the Sony's, I can't recommend the Meze 99 Classics enough.
  10. I can't believe I left them out either. Great band. And I do do like DDTM. It's a classic. Yeah it's aged poorly, the keyboards always sound cheesy as fuck to me. But if you want to understand black metal, it's mandatory listening.
  11. Hell yeah man. And Darkness Fell is on of my favorite albums.
  12. Romeo's Distress is the only song you need by Christian Death really. Dudes vocals are a bit different. I've heard it so many times they don't bother me anymore. Fields of Nephilim are pretty great. They got weird towards the later albums. Makes sense you would like them since you like Sisters of Mercy.
  13. I was staying away from the more controversial picks, but Goatmoon is excellent. I'd throw Cosmic Church and Clandestine Blaze to the mix too if internet cool points aren't your thing.
  14. You need to check out some good Finblack. Totally change your opinion on black metal. A few classics to get you started: Sargeist - Let the Devil In Baptism - Morbid Wings of Sathanas (their whole discography is fucking excellent) Saturnian Mist - Chaos Magick Ordinance - Reliquishment Impaled Nazarene - Latex Cult Satanic Warmaster - Strength and Honor Horna - Black Metal Warfare Warloghe - Pestilence and Warfare Behexen - By the Blessing of Satan Oath - Mustan Liekin Veljeskunta Don't get me started on Archgoat, but definitely check them out. And the granddaddy of all Finblack - Beherit - Drawing Down the Moon (mandatory listening) Or if you like the more melodic stuff, Sweden is your joint: Dawn - Slaughtersun (if you don't like this album nothing can help you) Dissection of course Armagedda - Only True Believers Avsky - Scorn Svartsyn - ...His Majesty Or just go listen to Bathory. The Return is a good place to start. Chase that with Blood Fire Death. Quothorn basically invented black metal as we know it (yeah yeah Venom, I know...) Plenty of other excellent black metal scenes around the world. Germany and Poland are standouts. Don't overlook the French, South America, Greece, or the US either. There is so much variety in black metal it's astonishing. Really something for everyone. I certainly wouldn't recommend basing opinions on Belphegor.
  15. I've seen this described under a couple of genre tags, but I'm going to go with Encyclopedia Metallum's post-doom tag (whatever the fuck that is). Excellently weird shit from South Africa. Ophiuchi - Shibboleth His first album is delightfully unsettling. This song in particularly fun on a dark night with a good set of headphones. Ophiuchi - Bifurcaria Bifurcata Another interesting release that I'm not sure I like, but came to me highly recommended. I don't usually do Industrial Metal, especially not with clean singing, but the first pass has me intrigued. I hear some Killing Joke in this which is never a bad thing. C R O W N - The End of All Things
  16. Warlord U.K. - Maximum Carnage Altarage - Succumb C R O W N - The End of all Things Ophiuchi - Shibboleth Rudimentary Peni - Great War
  17. Welcome Senor Fink! Glad you followed us over.
  18. For sure hungus among us. I for one would pay money for one of those prints. I'm sure others would too.
  19. Come learn the ways of the goat good Johan. We have cookies.
  20. Darkthrone - Arctic Thunder Darkthrone - Old Star Pre-ordered the new Wednesday. Getting excited to hear what they come up with. I have to say that I really like the trajectory they have been on over the last few, so I have high hopes.
  21. Your art looks pretty fucking great to me.
  22. Daeva - Pulsing Dark Reabsorption Bolt Thrower - Mercenary
  23. NYC Mayhem - Violence Demo Holy Moses - Satan's Angel Demo
