  1. Këkht Aräkh - Pale Swordsman Kanonenfieber - Menschenmühle Panopticon - And Again Into The Light Soft Kill - An Open Door Horror Vacui - New Wave of Fear
  2. My favorite Steve Harris bass line. So simple but so melodic. Can't listen to it at any volume less than max!
  3. I look at it as 2 different bands. I like both. I'm glad we have both. Most of the time I listen to the first Bruce era stuff (Number - SSOASS). I liked Brave New World too. IMO, Maiden wouldn't be as big as they are with Paul. The first 2 albums are great, but he can't do what Bruce does. My personal list: 1) Piece of Mind 2) SSOASS 3) Number of the Beast 4) Killers 5) Powerslave 6) Iron Maiden 7) Somewhere in Time Favorite song: The Prisoner off Number of the Beast Best cover art: SSOASS
  4. Wolverine - A Darkened Sun EP Genghis Tron - Dream Weapon - not something I'd usually listen to, but recommended by a friend. I need new friends. Crimson Glory - Crimson Glory
  5. Just put that in my wishlist tonight. Glad to hear it's decent.
  6. Bourbon is my preferred poison. Tonight it's a bourbon (Jim Beam Black) and ginger ale.
  7. I liked that Howling Sycamore album. About halfway through I was like " I know this voice" and looked it up. Pretty impressive lineup. I'll check out the first album later tonight. I'm familiar with Crimson Glory and Lethal, but I can't remember the last time I listened to either. I'll throw them on the playlist for tonight too. Fates I find hit or miss. The classics are just that of course. I do like some of the newer stuff, but Alder's voice is not quite as good. FWX and Theories of Flight are the 2 new ones I listen to most. NP: :neepal - Batik I & II
  8. I don't think I've ever heard them. I'll check it out tonight. I do enjoy a bit of later day Fates Warning and Porcupine Tree hits the spot now and then, but I kinda have up searching for new bands in the style. Most prog metal bores me to tears. Always seems bands are trying to do so much they forget to write enjoyable songs.
  9. The riffage is good although not quite to the level of Loomis or Wilton. The vocals are ok. I like the effort, but they're not in the same league without the godlike vocals of Dane or Tate.
  10. No, I think you will find the LCD-2'S work for every genre pretty well save for synthetic bass music like EDM or rap. They don't do synthesized bass well, but any music with actual fucking instruments sounds great. The only way I would replace those is if 1) they're too uncomfortable, 2) you're unhappy with the sound and have maxed out your signal chain, or 3) you radically change direction in life and go all in with drum & bass music. You may find them a little harsh with poorly recorded music, but you're probably the one chap I know who will like that.
  11. Oranssi Pazuzu - Mestarin kynsii
  12. Immolation - Atonement - my AOTY 2017

  14. Well after exploring options ad nauseam and over researching as usual, I've finally settled on a new set of open cans. I picked up a set of Quad Era-1 from the Head-Fi classifieds. They are planars, over the ear, made in England by the legendary Quad Electronics (who developed the first electrostatic speaker in the late 50's). A direct competitor to the LCD-2. I can't compare them to much else besides the Meze 99s and the LCD-2 that I own, but I will say that they are exactly what I was after. They combine the comfort of the Meze and sound better than the LCD-2's. Glorious planar bass, open airy soundstage, blah, blah, blah. I don't have golden ears vocabulary, but I can say they are fucking fantastic and my phone drives them with ease. Solid A+ construction too. I've read a bunch of reviews that gave a bunch of differing opinions of the sound. To my ears they take the LCD-2 sound and improve upon it. Better midrange and clearer treble. Individual instruments are easily placed. The rumble from Geddy's Rick (the most glorious sound in the universe) sounds better on these by far. Most compare them more directly with the LCD-4 which is 3x the price. I've never heard those so I can't comment. What I can say is that they are well worth the price of admission. Endgame? Nothing is endgame, but these will quell the upgraditis for a few years. Only problem is now I want to upgrade my signal chain....
