  1. Satan. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
  2. Wasn't that the guy from Funeral? I remember reading something about that, but honestly never bothered to check out anything by them. I do like some Blasphemy now and then who definitely aren't French but have committed similar hijinx in the past. Never dug deep into the sketchy underbelly of the French scene. More familiar with the Finnish, American, and Canadian stuff. As with RABM, the vast majority of NSBM or borderline NSBM just isn't that good.
  3. Exactly this. IDGAF what they're saying (don't read lyrics and prefer not to start), but the music better be on point. I've yet to hear a RABM band that can pull off an interesting song. I appreciate the sentiment to a point, but that's not the reason I listen to black metal.
  4. Les Légions Noires - bands like Mütiilation and Vlad Tepes. Huge influence on early Finnblack like Horna, Sargiest, etc. Honestly, some of the early French stuff can be pretty tough to listen to. Very rough/raw and primitive. Certainly advanced level black metal depravity. Mütiilation has some weird shit in their later catalog. Good stuff.
  5. Manilla Road - Spiral Castle Hällas - Conundrum
  6. Surge! My favorite metal end-of-the year columnist has arrived! Welcome dude. Always look forward to your posts.
  7. I have to say that always anxiously awaited any new Rush release. I loved them all when they came out, but 10 years after the last, I can look back in retrospect and rank them like this: 1990 - 2011 Clockwork Angels - a return to the concept album format. Geddy's vocals are excellent (he never really had a bad studio performance), but here he really embraces the lower end of his register and it just fits the music so well. The songwriting is excellent and the performances are as usual top notch. IMO, belongs in the upper echelon of their catalog along with Grace Under Pressure, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Signals, 2112 and my 2 personal favorites Caress of Steel (which is the backpatch on my vest) and Presto. Vapor Trails - the remixed version although I really didn't mind the original mix Counterparts - some good tracks, a few meh Roll The Bones/Snakes & Arrows - don't really dislike either of these and they have some excellent tracks, but they're definitely weaker on the weaker end of the spectrum. Next up on the playlist today: Presto & Caress of Steel
  8. Yes and anxiously awaited for quite some time. Dude teasing it on Facebook last year got me very hopeful. Pre-ordered the Slaughtersun vinyl reissue too. Can hardly wait for that. This morning: Rush - Clockwork Angels - a fantastic swansong to a career. Definitely the best of their later albums.
  9. On the black metal In my worthless opinion - the best melodic BM band to ever do it. Dawn - Sorgh Pa Svarte Vingar Flogh Dawn - Naer Solen Gar Nider For Evogher Dawn - Slaughtersun - desert island disc
  10. 75% is a conservative number. Infectious disease experts don't have a consensus. I've seen numbers from 70% to 90% would be required for "herd immunity". Unfortunately, that's a best guess as there are so many factors that go into how a virus spreads (which you can multiply as it mutates). The officially reported numbers in the US are garbage on vaccination. Looking at internal reports from our healthcare system compared to those reported by the state compared to the federal government, there are significant differences. Our data shows 5-15% lower rates that what the others show for the states/counties we cover. I suspect that trend is not isolated to my area.
  11. Early morning thrash. Better than coffee to get my ass outta bed Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence SADUS - Swallowed in Black
  12. Hot breakfast of any kind is quite the luxury post hurricane, but my go to is pancakes. No refrigeration required and can be prepared with minimal work/equipment. Mix lasts quite a while in the pantry to and doesn't require last minute panic buying. Exactly what's going on here now too since the government has been picking up the bill for or mandating for people to stay home. People want it both ways. No restrictions but restrictions in certain areas. Everyone has a right to go to work but everyone has a right to refuse and not suffer the consequences. Supply chain should always have enough things for everyone at low cost but workers have a right to good pay. The list of contradictions goes on and on. It's all a bit maddening.
  13. We're seeing significant staff shortages as well due to mandatory quarantine guidelines. Not sick, but exposed. Only a matter of time before we see more businesses/services close because there's no one to staff them. Oh, and btw, one of the major symptoms we're seeing from Omicrom is gastrointestinal distress (i.e. diarrhea). So maybe stocking up on 3-ply isn't a bad idea. Get it while you can.
  14. Chilling in my home office doing the WFH thing today which I typically hate, but one of the advantages is access to my music server and excellent home office system - LMS server (4TB) - RPi 4+Allo Boss 1.2 - Edifier S2000mkiii. Necrophobic - Mark of the Necrogram - been a while since I spun this last. Good record. Necroblood - Collapse of the Human Race - same comment Old Wainds - Nordraum Kekht Arakh - Pale Swordsman
  15. Zero case strategy works quite well when you cook the books. I tend to agree that Omicrom is significantly less of a threat than Delta for hospitalization and death, but it's significantly more transmissible. We're experiencing worse staffing levels than with the first wave (no vax) or the Delta wave (majority vaxxed) despite strict quarantine measures. I think we will flip to crisis staffing at all our sites this week which means asymptomatic staff will come to work despite active infection. Should really help it propagate faster, but healthcare requires staffing so you do what you have to. You're right though, we're all going to get COVID at some point regardless of vax status. It's here to stay just like the common cold and the flu. We just have to hope that the vax holds it off for most of us until it mutates to a less virulent form.
  16. I have this pin on my nightstand. My wife fucking hates it and keeps hiding it (and I keep finding it and putting it back). It's turned into quite the game. Been going on for a few months. She's pretty tolerant of my questionable music tastes and general outlook on things of this nature, but every once in a while something strikes a nerve. As you can imagine, I'm always looking for stuff that will provoke that reaction. Currently on the list of hated items: Archgoat - Angelcunt shirt Recluse - Stillbirth in Bethlehem shirt (wore this one on Christmas Day for bonus points) Mercyful Fate - Nuns Have No Fun shirt Sabbat - Disembody shirt SATAN (band) patch Bathory In Conspiracy with Satan patch
  17. The booster, either of the mRNA type, have shown to be very effective against Omicrom. The Pfizer has shown a 35x increase in antibodies and the Moderna a 75x increase. Still seeing plenty of infections after the booster, but they are short lived and very mild. I wouldn't bother with any of the traditional vaccine products (Janssen, Astra-Zeneca, etc). These products aren't really showing any benefit against Omicrom specifically. Also, choose a 3-ply paper (surgical) mask over a cloth mask. Cloth has shown to do nothing to prevent the spread while paper has shown reduced transmission.
  18. Spectral Wound - A Diabolic Thirst Circle of Ouroborus - Abrahadabra Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk Hour of 13 - Hour of 13 Ordinance - In Purge there is no Remission Tomb Mold - Manor of Infinite Forms
  19. Starer - 18" Below the Horizon Oranssi Pazuzu - Kosmonument Oranssi Pazuzu - Värähtelijä Circle of Ouroborus - Uskottomien kirkossa / Tarpeeton Circle of Ouroborus - Alttarimyllyt
  20. Argento - First Comes Madness...Then Comes Death Hellsword - Blasphemy Unchained Pakkt - To Brocken Heights Ride for Revenge - Feed the Infamy Ninkharsag - The Dread March of Solemn Gods
  21. He's definitely on the atmoblack side of the spectrum, but there are a few straight goat approved lo-fi rippers on there. He's the guy from Panopticon, so I figured going into it what most of the selections were going to favor. I've gone through most of what I added to my wishlist from his and didn't care for the majority of them even though his write up caught my attention.
  22. Black Mass - Feast at the Forbidden Tree
  23. Fetid Zombie - Transmutations - not a list worthy choice from last year, but enjoyable enough. Reminds me of Haunter. Ringare - Thrall of Winter's Majesty - not sure how I feel about this one yet Dodsrit - Mortal Coil - another I can't believe I missed last year. Love this band. Aran - Pimeyttä Vasten
