  1. Last 2 bottles I bought were $55 ea, wouldn't have paid $115 for one. And there's quite a distance between Buffalo Trace and Pappy. Not enough to justify the cost, but enough I wouldn't put them in the same sentence. How's it stack up to Backwoods Bastard?
  2. And I would agree with you 1000%. Tried too hard to make a follow up to that banger. Same for the new Sumerlands, good but not equal to the debut. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Ice, Death, Planets and some other shit.
  3. Decent shit that is a bit hard to come by where I am. My wife's favorite for old fashioneds. She doesn't know it, but I fill the bottle up with Jim Beam most of the time. My personal favorite from that distillery is Eagle Rare. Not sure if you guys get that in Aussieland, but if you see it definitely grab a bottle or 3. Tonight, my 4th or 5th Oyster City Hooter Brown. Lost count after a few Jameson/Ginger ales during today's golfing activities. Whoa! I gotta find that.
  4. Secret Shame - Autonomy Riot City - Electric Elite Darkthrone - Astral Fortress
  5. A bunch of shit on Bandcamp including the new Darkthrone, Worm, some King Gizzard, and a ton of post-punk releases. That's what happens after a few too many cervezas on a Saturday night at casa de navy.
  6. Ok, so on to new release Friday Secret Shame - Autonomy - post-punk - Asheville, NC (2022) Darkthrone - Astral Fortress
  7. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Polygonwanaland King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms, and Lava King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Murder of the Universe Great show last night. These guys put on an absolute killer show. Super high energy, good sense of humor, no fucking around. Just 2 hours of rocking out. They made a fan last night, although I'm not sure they needed another. The joint was packed to the gills.
  8. Going to see King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard tonight. Not a huge fan, only have 2 albums, but I'll put some random albums on by them today to get in the mood. They remind me of the OSees, who I dig, so it should be a good show. Starting the morning off with some bandcamp roulette: HOME FRONT - Think of the Lie EP (2021) - 80's new wave from the land of maple syrup Hævner - Kaldet Fra Tomrummet (2022) - Danish post-punk Esoctrilihum - Saopth's (2022) - French black metal - this is one of those automatic purchases for me. Guy is prolific and has never missed the mark IMO Esoctrilihum - Consecration of the Spiritüs Flesh (2022)
  9. I'll probably check that out but I have to say that I'm getting a bit crispy on all the Lofi black metal regardless of where it originates from. Going to have to bring something different to the table than the 9 million other albums in the same vein released over the past few years. I still love the full on satanic goat goodness, still worship at the bloody altar, but you're going to have to impress me to get my money these days.
  10. TBF, that's most of the metal tours/fests in the US. The concentration of guys from the NE where everyone has to hit if they tour the States and guys like me who have the disposable income to travel all over the country to cool fests like MDF (12+ hours unless flying at $400 or more) or Hell's Heroes (8 hours) probably distorts the representation of what is widely available here. We've had only 2 shows local here this year (Torche and Melvins). I'm traveling 3.5 hours one way tomorrow to see another (King Gizzard), and 4.5 next week for Mass Destruction Fest. Only other shows for the rest of the year are at least 4.5 hours away (WASP) save for COC here in a few weeks. More shows may come here or be from here than Aussieland, but the really good ones are generally located on the extreme ends of the country and not easily accessible for most.
  11. I always pictured @markm with longer hair and less chest hair...
  12. Yeah, just a bunch of mild, non-opinionated, old codgers around here.
  13. Yeah man, noticed I hadn't seen you around lately. Was going to send you a text to make sure you were good, but I've lost your number over the years. Glad to know you're doing alright. I'm with you on Sonic Youth. I have Daydream Nation and Goo. Those are the only albums from them that I find even partially interesting, but I do like what they brought to the table, and you can definitely hear their influence all over the place. No one quite sounds like them. Turning into a Dwarves-a-thon today The Dwarves - Blood, Guts, and Pussy The Dwarves - Free Cocaine
  14. As long as the OP is ok with vulgarity, blasphemous Satanic imagery, poorly worded hot takes, and general goat fuckery, I'll be more than happy to provide all the quotes he wants.
  15. The Dwarves - The Dwarves are Young and Good Looking The Dwarves - The Dwarves Come Clean The Bouncing Souls - Hopeless Romantic The Bouncing Souls - How I Spent My Summer Vacation
  16. I love Dave and Magadeth as much as anybody (yes that was an intentional misspelling), but I'm not interested in anything past Rust. Maybe a song or 2 off of Youthanasia, but I can honestly live without them. Were still hyped to see them live a while back, but new stuff hard pass. I did watch the first video out of morbid curiosity. Was not impressed.
  17. The Bouncing Souls - Maniacal Laughter The Bouncing Souls - The Good, The Bad, and the Argyle Strange - Life Jam Clear Light - Street Singer
  18. Seems very appropriate coming from that part of the world.
  19. Escotrilihum - The Telluric Ashes Mortiferum - Preserved in Torment Enslaved - Mardraum
  20. I've considered swamp, desert, and forest. Swamp makes the most sense around here. She won't get on a boat with me....
  21. And they still bring it live. Seen them a dozen times and never a bad set.
  22. Def Leppard - First EP About the only thing I can think of. NWOBHM really didn't kick off until 80. You might take a look at this as it seems to have collected the singles that were floating around in 79. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Wave_of_British_Heavy_Metal_'79_Revisited
  23. Congrats in advance dude. My wife and I are going on 26 years. It's not always easy, and there have been plenty of times I've wanted to bury her body in a swamp, but she really does make me a better, happier person. I'm a lucky guy. Good luck and good fortune to you both!
